Internal or external DVD conversion?

Hello

I'm new to the forum and have just ordered the new W530. I plan to replace the internal DVD player with a hard drive and ordered the Bay adapter with the laptop. I wonder if anyone knows a good way to use the internal DVD drive is shipped with the device.

I have often found, and I think it may be envelopes or cards that might make it useful for me when necessary.

Thank you in advance.

Did my research and found this:

The optical drive on my mac mini 2009 died. I need to burn a project to a DVD. I have attached an external DVD burner for mac. I play DVD. How to record from iDVD please?

I had a similar set on one of my Mac mini.  My internal optical drive still works fine, but I bought an external burner because the Apple optical drive cannot burn the M-DISC.  (M DISC is what we use now.)

Don't burn your DVDs from iDVD. Instead, use iDVD to create an image file and then burn the image file using the disc utilities. Utility disk will be out and find all your drives connected and it should see externally, (he does with us).

  • How to create a DVD with DVD Studio Pro and an external DVD burner?

    Hello

I am trying to create a DVD with DVD Studio Pro. My internal DVD drive no longer works. I have an external DVD burner - slim portable DVD writer. I create the project into DVD Studio Pro, and when in the program, it works fine when I "stimulate". Well, I can't burn it.  When I look for the external DVD writer in my finder, it is not and I don't know how or where to select the option so it is programmed to burn the external DVD writer. Any advice? Thank you have a great week.

I found a thread that has addressed this issue, but does not help me to solve my problem. Meg the dog was told this to her in question written by Scott Stark. I tried his solution of generation and format, but after pressing the burn a window appears saying "insert disc please insert acceptable DVD recordable media."  I tried to use another blank DVD, it did not help. I use Word for Word, I heard that those who are the best blank DVDs, you can buy. Thanks again for your time!

Yes I think it'll do. You just need the program to create the win 7 dvd iso file. There are several, and you can google it. To burn it on a usb flash drive, you can use Rufus 2.5 or newer version.

  • Satellite M30 - restore the external DVD drive

    Hello
I have a Satellite Pro M30. There is a problem with the drive DVD internal Multi - replacement will take a month or two to get here. I need to perform a restore on this machine. I connected an external DVD drive to the machine. When I start the machine starts on the restore CD but seems so looking for a Player X, I get the following messages displayed on the screen of the BACK:

    Device name: TOSCD001
    Number of units: 1

CDR101: Not ready reading drive X
    Quit, retry, fail?

    Insert the recovery CD #1!

    What should I do?

    Kind regards
    Sameer

    Hello Sammer

Unfortunately the recovery media is created to be used as internal drive only. I put t think you will be able to use it with an external device. On the restore CD there is a ghost image and it is not easy to fix it for use with an external device.

  • HP Envy 15 j151sa: HP Envy 15 does boot from external dvd rom

    Hi all

My HP Envy is new (Envy 15 j151sa). The external DVD drive is new (HP dvd600). My envy model does not have an internal CD/DVD drive

I want to boot from a live DVD.

I have read the other messages and answers for similar queries and followed the suggestion.

At startup, press F10 (BIOS Setup) and Boot Options parameters are the following...

    (a) secure boot - off

    (b) legacy - allowed boot.

    (c) changed the boot order inherited from have the rom USB dvd as the first in the list.

    Save the configuration.

    Restart the PC.

    At startup, press F9

Lists the available devices (3) to boot from as

    OS boot manager

    Boot from EFI file

    Portable hard drive

There is No option to select the external CD drive to DVD.

I updated the BIOS to the HP latest version recommended.

I don't know what else to try.

I could really use some help now.

    Thank you

Your external DVD drive is operatying as it should.

The best place to find an answer on how to make the live CD is the Debian forum. Disk made you apparentlydoes is not not a MBR boot sector or a recognized EFI partition. Either of the people is what is necessary for the drive to be bootable and your notebook BIOS must be configured in accordance with the choice of the type of format.

Personally I've always preferred to use a utility likeUNetbootln to make several versions of Linux "live" bootable.

I don't bother with the hassle of the DVD or CD media more.

If you have a spare drive 32 or 64 GB USB flash drive, so you can put an incredible number of versions of Linux and troubleshooting utilities on it.

The economy of scale with usb flashdrive has gotten to the point where a 16 GB usb key is less expensive than recordable DVD media. Check outthe Newegg price.

Download your favorite version of Debian AMD64 iso direct from here.

  • Load Windows XP from external DVD drive

Replaced the hard drive on laptop. DVD drive does not work on the laptop. How to install windows XP from an external DVD drive hard disk new?

You must change the boot order in the BIOS of your computer.

The boot order is order this computer tries to start from, for example, it can check the internal DVD first, then if there is nothing in there, go to the hard drive.

You need to plug in your external DVD drive (it's probably USB).

Then go into the BIOS setup - search for boot order and move the external DVD drive to the top of the boot list, so this is the first device to be "started" from.

Then restart your laptop and then it should boot from the external DVD drive, which probably contains the installation media for Windows XP (DVD/CD).

  • In the BIOS boot order stopped showing my external DVD player

I use a laptop HP Compaq presario V3000 series, model no. V3018TU. I use a DVD drive with her as my internal DVD player does not work properly.

External DVD drive functions correctly after windows starts. The problem is that he displayed in the boot order. I want to install Ubuntu alongside with XP. I am not able to give priority to installing Ubuntu on boot as it is not showing in the boot order. After starting my laptop, it starts to load XP.

That's what I was doing just before this problem arose. Everything was fine. I was installing Ubuntu along side Windows XP my laptop and in-between the installation got stuck and my hard drive was not working when I rebooted, I made my hard drive to work somehow and then I found another problem, i.e.my external DVD drive is not showing in the boot order. All the other things i.e.my hard drive, internal DVD player (does not work correctly) etc., appear but except for my external DVD player. I need my external DVD player to display in the boot order to install ubuntu.

Help me fix the problem. Thanks in advance.

  • External DVD/CD drive

Recently, the internal DVD/CD player in my Acer Aspire laptop (Windows 7) has stopped working. I was going to get it fixed/replaced (depending on what was needed), but it is expensive. I then discovered a LG external DVD/CD player which is very affordable with good reviews. I have just a few questions about it. I send LG and they said that it would work as my drive is internal. I want to know if I can still use Windows Media Player to watch DVDs and copy/burning CD, or do I have to install another drive? In addition, I was told that I have to contact Microsoft to make the external DVD drive my main drive for the media about things. I was trying to email Microsoft, but I couldn't find a way to do it and the chat option wasn't working as I was way too long waiting. In any case, I hope someone can help. I also hope that I didn't not rambling too! Thanks to anyone who can lend a hand here.

Short answer.  No problem at all.  DVD drives external work work very well.  They do not act any differently the model failed in your Acer.  I recommend this for many people here, but also a number of my clients.

I do not know such an adapter exists, but it's a hardware problem - I suggest you contact the manufacturer of your laptop with this issue, as well as questions about additional upgrades, you could do.

These are all the hardware problems, and this site deals with software issues related to the Windows operating system. I'm sorry this isn't the answer you're looking for, but...

  • Boot camp with external dvd drive

How it is possible to install Windows 7 on my old MacBook Pro Mid 2009 using an external DVD drive?

Because my SuperDrive drive is broken.

Yes, there is a way, I remember that when I swapped my Superdrive for a disk hard while my old Macbook could not start Windows USB.

you need vmware Fusion and refined installed

It's a little tricky because not apple USB drives do not work when booting the operating system, but it works if you read carefully. basically the process starts as usual, put the DVD in the DVD USB drive and start to Boot Camp, let to create the BootCamp partition, instead of restarting create a VM with the mapping of physical disk, begin the installation, restart Windows and finish using DVD USB.

Here is the guide, a bit outdated but might help. Be sure just to what disk you format in the virtual machine, because you are working with the physical disk where you have installed OS X:

  • Implement the external dvd drive on iMac

    Hello

My superdrive drive started acting funny (not eject disks and then do not read), so I bought an external dvd reader/player.
Everything worked fine until I installed an SSD instead the superdrive.
Now, when I go to play a DVD in the DVD drive external drive says "there was an error of initialization, a valid dvd drive could not be found."

Other applications do not recognize the dvd either, as they did.

Disk utility will find the dvd if it is in drive but you will not find the player if there is no DVD.

Is there something I can do to recognize the DVD player as the default player for the iMac?

    Thank you

    iMac 24 inch early 2009

    DVD writer Samsung laptop, SE208

There is nothing to recognize without a disc in the DVD player. It's normal. Apple's DVD player software does not work on my iMac 2009 with the original drive in an external case because I also installed an SSD in the optical Bay. I use VLC to watch videos. My disc burning software, Toast, recognizes external very well.

  • Pavilion 2 detachable x: external DVD problems

    Hello

I bought a Samsung SE208 external DVDRW use the USB port on my full size tablet. It was purchased primarily for watching DVDs while working there and copy my music in iTunes.

I plugged the instructions and immediately stuck a CD that has been copied to my library without problem. So, I got a DVD to watch (flushed away if anyones interested) and its here that the problems seem to start.

With a DVD in the drive, you can see this whirring away and my Tablet produces occasional beep noise. It does not display messages and nothing on the screen indicates that the DVD will play. In Device Manager the DVD player is not. It shows as installed correctly when I managed to catch him and look in the properties, but the driver is for a CD-ROM drive only. I tried it on my laptop (6 years) and it works perfectly. The laptop is running Windows 10 too, but shows a bunch of different drivers in Device Manager.

Ideas, suggestions, new uses for it would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Rob.

I just tried the drive again and it won't play CD's. Maybe it'll work as a lead only which is useless, or ornament for me. Any suggestions?

    Hi PeerOne.

Thanks for the reply but I have VLC and it still doesn't work.

It turns out that the SE208 is announced as compatible on a certain website large companies USB3.0 is not something of the sort. With a result pretty obvious.

Needless to say that the offending article was returned and the search for an external DVD drive VFM who will work with USB 3.0 continues.

    Rob.
