internal raid of two HD creation

as a novice to the use of the Terminal, I was convinced that the command I entered would combine the two HD on mac pro.

He has indeed created the RAID however the total copacity to the created reader is 2 t instead of 3 T.

could someone please explain why? Also if I wanted to go back so that the two separate drives what the command would be?

Thank you

  • Suggestions of Internal RAID card for config

    Hi people,

First a brief summary of my hardware that may contribute to the discussion:

    MB: Asus P9X79-E WS

    CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme 4930 K 3.4 GHz

SDS OS: Samsung 840 series Pro 256 GB

    Various HD WD Black

    Case: Obsidian 900 d

I would like to put in place a system of internal Raid that the case has a lot of Bay HD capabilities. MB Raid facilities on board are not too reliable, or so I read, so a PCIe card seems the best bet.

Can someone please offer advice on what card PCIe is more suitable for this purpose. I would look at Raid 10 with 4 x Sata disks 4TB

PERC connector 0 goes to the bottom of basket. Connector on the PERC 1 connects to the modular Bay. If you don't have the module Bay optional then you ensure that you use the 0 on the PERC and not the connector 1.

  • Internal RAID leads to possible Xserve when using ESXi 5.1?

Does anyone know if there is a way to RAID the internal on a 3.1 Xserve drives when it runs as a host ESXi 5.1?

I'm looking to do a raid mirrored for redundancy.  Ideally, software RAID would be great, but I'm willing to use a hardware RAID card too, if that's what it takes.  Looks like the Apple for the Xserve RAID card is not supported.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

    -John

So yes, with no possibility of a supported card and no possibility to software RAID (ESXi does not that), then you are for the most part without options, unless you do some hackery as giving the discs directly to a computer virtual (not technically supported with SATA drives, but possible), using software RAID in the VM and looping while editing of ESXi.

  • Create a simple internal network between two or more virtual machines

    Hello guys,.
I just wanted to ask how to create an internal network between several virtual machines without the host must be a part of.

I don't want that your network has a NAT, but I want to HOST a part of another network.

I tried the changes on network cards, but does not work...
    Obviously with VMware Workstation 8

Yes, your "Virtual Machine settings" - screenshot #1 - Select VMnet2 (for example).  Do this for each customer that you want on this private network, "Guest-only.  Note that you need to configure the network settings on each client within each guest OS; or have a guest to be a server with a dhcp server running that other clients can obtain an IP address configuration of.

  • Dell PowerEdge 2900 - need to use internal drives for RAID

    Hi all

I am the I.T. guy for small business from my father. I help them on the side.

They have recently purchased a PowerEdge 2900 server used with 4 internal SCSI drives

This server also has a Dell SAS 5 / i integrated controller

I want to install Windows 2008 R2 standard on this server and use it as a file server and a place to host QuickBooks Enterprise.

The problem, in that I am running is that I can't find in the Bios or anywhere in the server startup utilities where I can configure the 4 internal drives as a RAID 5 array. I want to do this and THEN install the Windows Server operating system. I used the last Build Server utility Dell and also updated all the firmware to the latest versions. The Build Server utility doesn't let me configure the RAID array.  What I'm missing here?

Thank you very much for your help!

I upgraded to a PERC 6 / i integrated RAID controller and now problem is solved. Just need a new controller internal RAID.

  • Internal or external raid

I have a box full of Cooler Master Tower and I have seven in total hard drive, and it has four large fans so I do not think that cooling will be a problem.  I'm going to use four disks RAID.  I was thinking of buying an internal raid controller and set up as a raid 5. Or is it better to use an external hard drive enclosure? I won't have to move from the computer.

Internal RAID is much easier and less expensive. A large Tower can easily hold 8 or more disks, especially if you use cages for training of Supermicro or cireguyannes. I currently have 17 discs and BRD 2 burners internally with room for 2 more disks.

  • W530 - should I RAID or not? + Disabling Optimus

Long story short: recently placed an order for a W530. Just checked my order shipment status and I see

"NO_RAIDof Internal RAID - not activated."

Also had a look at the manual W530 and I don't see what follows, because I intend to install a 2nd HARD drive:

    Hard drive bay adapter
    Model non-RAID W530 T530, T530i,
    Model W530 RAID

Wait, what? There is no option to choose when ordering from the laptop. So in fact have a W530 RAID model or not?
Tried to call sales, sales directed me to tech, the tech directed me to sales that I didn't have the phone physically in my hands, but back another two times before that I dropped.

Just saw this little presentation text also in the manual on the Optimus and Intel HD4000 in the laptop. Really? This has not been at all listed in the data sheet. I plan to do a new install of win 7 so I hope that this disables optimus and keeps the computer laptop running off the quadro anytime, but everyone here would be nice enough to develop their experience, if any, with deactivation Optimus?

Thank you! Any help I could get hbere would be greatly appreciated, after the frustration both with the channels of support tech official.

There are 8 weeks on the W530 with RAID + Ultrabay hdd.

  • A Grand Raid vs multiple Raids

    Hi all

We have a MD3600F, it has a 12 600SAS disks and I was hoping that you can help me decide how to handle the creation of Raid and Lun.
This san will store everything we have:
    Of-VMware VM
    -Databases SQL (about 5)
    -Exchange database
    -Profiles and users folders
    -Archives

I intended to create a matrix of large raid 10 (all players) and empty everything what it, but after a few readings, it might be better to separate them and create multiple arrays raid, at least one for the DB.

    so my questions are:
-Is it better (performance wise) to break the great raid in two/three small raids?
-If Yes, it will perform better on a raid 1 (two discs, I can't spare more than two disks for the DB) on the great raid 10?

Thank you for your help and your time.

A virtual disk/lun/volume SAN cannot be shared between servers, unless they are grouped (or use a file system clusters (such as VMFS and GFS)-compatible).

With raid 10 more good enough disks means more independent execution of your read/write ratio (unlike parity based raid where written slower get more drives you to add, if high write IO ratio might actually get slower with multiple disks).

However, dividing it into 2 6-drive raid 10 means that if one of the 2 is heavily used, the other is not affected by the present (so you can split up your data/o high between the 2 starts).

  • vmWare, RAID 5, NTFS = possible?

    Excuse me if I'm long-winded...

After several years of resistance to change in VMware, my network administrator showed me the light, and I decided to migrate my Hyper-V infrastructure to VMware. I have, however, run in what could be a big obstacle.

I have a Dell Poweredge T710. I installed ESXi 5 on a 1 GB USB key. I've got 2 two 600 GB hard disks, on which I would like to VMFS, hardware RAID 1 and all my VMs potential sit. There is the RAID 5, the problem.

I have a hardware partition NTFS RAID 5 with any data to share my files and media servers. ESXi sees the drive.

(In fact, need) what I want to do is install all of my virtual machines as mentioned on the 600 GB RAID1 and RAID 5 data to be accessed by one (or more) virtual machines.

I currently have a backup of all data on an external hard drive, in anticipation of the possibility to reformat the drive RAID 5 as VMFS, creation of a data store and then move everything back. However, I've heard several negative comments about the performance and recovery of files, sharing of a virtual disk. I have also considered sharing directly from the aforementioned external HDD, but because it is USB, once more, I heard several negative performance reviews.

So with all that said, here's my question (s):

Is it possible that a VMware VM can access the RAID 5 in its current state (NTFS partition)?

If this isn't the case, reformatting of VMFS and file sharing from a store of data stored there will create performance issues?

I'm better off returning to Hyper-V?

Will install virtual machines on a hardware RAID 1 a negative impact on the performance of these virtual machines?

I was really impressed by ESXi, so I would really like to continue to use it.

    And thanks, by the way.

    mrgrimmthebam wrote:

    Unfortunately not.

If this isn't the case, reformatting of VMFS and file sharing from a store of data stored there will create performance issues?

In recent versions, nothing you would never could not demonstrate in any test scenario.

I'm better off returning to Hyper-V?

I wouldn't, but then, it is a forum for VMware

Will install virtual machines on a hardware RAID 1 a negative impact on the performance of these virtual machines?

I do not understand this question. RAID1 will be generally better than RAID5, well than on modern hardware, the difference is questionable. He won't run slower if.

  • Help Setup RAID SATA for ESXi 4.1

    Hello

It is the first time that you try to use vmware.  Any help is greatly appreciate!

I just built a server around the Intel s5500hcvr mother. I have 6 SATA HDD I want to set up in a RAID. The integrated RAID controller seems to be very limited and does not seem to be supported by ESXi 4.1 (when I run ESXi 4.1 installation and it asks for a location for installation, all my discs are individually listed instead of virtual drives that I created with the RAID controller)

    My questions:

    (1) what is the suggested configuration of HDD (RAID levels / number of berries) for ESXi 4.1?  Can I create 1 RAID 10 array and set everything up to that?  or take one of my disks and install esxi 4.1 on it and then create a RAID with the rest of my discs and use it to store data?

    (2) anyone can provide links to some SATA RAID controllers that are known to work with ESXi 4.1 (and is the supposed to recognize virtual readers created by the RAID controller setup ESXi 4.1)

Your motherboard has a RAID controller software which, as you have discovered, is completely not taken in charge by ESX/ESXi... You will need to get a RAID controller that is on the HCL for SAS and SATA hard drives (not one with battery backup write cache) so you can use any type of RAID configuration.

My preference for Internal RAID configurations (on the host) are two drives mirrored for ESX/ESXi to reside (preferably being SAS 10 k or 15 k RPM, 73 GB or 146 GB in size) and then another table for the data store. You'll want to keep the data slot store table 2 TB-512 b size in order to present to ESX/ESXi as a LUN. Or you will need to get a RAID card this split of the support to the top of the table in the smaller of the virtual drives that can be presented for ESX/ESXi and LUNS.

Search for controllers using the LSI MegaRAID chip as a good first lap. Some Adaptec cards should work, but I've seen people post questions on those recent (more recent than in the past). MANY manufacturers rebrand/efficiency the LSI MegaRAID Controllers server, such as the Dell PERC 6 series cards.

For the use of 4 disks SATA, RAID 10 (on a BBWC, fully supported, controller) will give you the best performance. It will compare with SAS drives however. IF you do not plan on any virtual machine running with anything beyond light IOPS / s then you should be ok (or with very light loads)... If this is going to be a production server, then get the SAS drives all around.

    VMware VCP4

  • Software internal error first Elements 9

I try to burn a video from the DVD project on my new iMac 2.5 GHZ Intel Core i5 OS x 10.7.2 and just before Adobe first 9 trying to burn the DVD ejects the disc and I get this error message.

    Internal software error: / users/raroa/creation/elements/main/External/author DVD-Source-Script Creator/FormatLib/Make/Mac/.../.../Vobulator/TitlePlanner/CVOBUPlanne r.cpp, line331

I have burned other projects without problem, could someone tell me what means this error and how to work around.

    Thank you Teddy

I found a work around for this problem after reading several other post with similar situations, my project has 5 scenes (and 5 stage markers) for the menu buttons and I initially stop 5 markers at roughly the same place in the project. It appears as if these two markers are too narrow and an attempt to burn comes up with the error. So I added a black frame 10 sec still between scenes to separate the markers. After you save the project in this way the burn worked. I'm sure that Adobe has known this problem, but also of other major issues with this program, but has not fixed or communicated these issues to their customers.

    Thank you

The Satellite X 205 is unclear to me. It seems he series of American s notebook.
But the Satellite X 200 is known to me and it of very similar to the Sat X 205.

As much as I know the Satellite X 200 does not support RAID functionality.
Of course the unit was equipped with two hard drives but these are SATA drives and only the SATA controller is available. as I m not wrong not the RAID does not exist.

So to shorten this story; You cannot set the RAID-0
