Suggestions of Internal RAID card for config

Hi people,

First a brief summary of my hardware that may contribute to the discussion:

MB: Asus P9X79-E WS

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme 4930 K 3.4 GHz

SDS OS: Samsung 840 series Pro 256 GB

Various HD WD Black

Case: Obsidian 900 d

I would like to put in place a system of internal Raid that the case has a lot of Bay HD capabilities. MB Raid facilities on board are not too reliable, or so I read, so a PCIe card seems the best bet.

Can someone please offer advice on what card PCIe is more suitable for this purpose. I would look at Raid 10 with 4 x Sata disks 4TB

  • Suggestions for a RAID card

    Header 1

Currently I have an Adaptec RAID 3405 card, it is about five years old and about two of every three boot-ups, he negotiated one of the disks at half speed, i.e. 1.5Gps. To mitigate the problem, I've done as a "hot spare" HD Having replaced the cable without result maybe it's time to get a new card.

I want to do is get a RAID card allowing five internal hard drives (2 TB) and for future expansion also a SAS /... external connector.

Currently, there are three sets of external drive connected via eSATA and Sil3132 SATALink Controller. Latter is configured through external enclosures in RAID 5 and RAID0 respectively, so there is a single HD via the eSATA port.

The system is of recent construction with an i7 950 and 24 GB of RAM. "' 'C' (System) drive is Raptor 10 K rpm WD, the" D "drive is a 1.5 to 7200 RPM, the 'G' disc is consists of four HDs Seagate 2 TB 7200 RPM drive 'I' is a Kingston SSD 128 GB which is used for caching. More combinations of external drive mentioned above.

In addition to change/upgrade the RAID card, I would get a late model SSD to replace my existing 'C' drive and use it to replace the existing "D".

    Looking forward to your suggestions.

    See you soon,.

And then there is this one which is newer RS25DB080, but now you get up in the price of the Areca.

    Nothing wrong with Areca.

In all honesty I haven't used a LSI in 2 years and more. At one point they were my fav as comparable to those of other performance

  • Looking for the number of right-hand side of a built-in raid card of R415 H700

    Hello

I have a server with a RAID card integrated S300 R415 and I'm looking for:

Dell PERC H700 integrated RAID controller

to install in the integrated RAID controller connector. I don't want to use the PCI-E slot card just above a RAID card because I need for Ethernet. I like the 1 GB if possible but I think they devised only integrated map of H700 with 512 MB.

When I search RAID controller internal Dell PERC H700, I get a lot of results, but could not get an exact match for a server R415. I'm afraid that if I get homesick, she is not right. Please let know us on the H700 onboard correct for a R415.

Unfortunately, the only card that can go in the built-in storage location is a modular 6ir SAS or a modular S300, which you already have. The SAS 6IR has no cache and only supports raid levels 0 and 1 (no raid 5). To go with a H700, you must remove the current Ethernet card, you have to slot 1.

Regarding issue 1: it could be this new firmware is already installed.

Look at page 3 of the release notes (http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/security/content_security/RAID _...)

After running the update of the firmware, the firmware upgrade package appears in the list of available upgrades even after a successful installation. The presence of this package does not indicate a failure of the upgrade.

To verify that the upgrade is running correctly, you can run the upgrade script again after the machine has restarted. If the upgrade was successful, the upgrade script indicates that the device does not require the upgrade

Regarding your second question: the software upgrade:
-you have an internet connection for update servers (the upstream proxy settings check maybe..)
-What is your version of the software running (did you check upgrade)? Maybe you should first upgrade to 753 or some other version...
-Maybe the reboot will solve the problem?

  • How to install the driver for a Raid card.

I hope that this question is of you and yours.

    I have:

ESXi 4.1 operational on a Dell 1950. He has a basic raid card that works. This is the functioning and VM are stored.

I installed a 1212 4 Areca Raid port cards. I have attached two Intel SSD's in raid 1.

My Bios sees both the original and the 1212 raid cards and disks.

Areca at startup utility says that everything is swell.

ESXi is unable to see the 1212. I went to the Areca website and downloaded the driver for ESXi 4.X.

I followed the instructions for all upward using the CLI interface. He begins to apply the patch, but then I thought that a meta.zip file is missing and things are abandoned.

I went to the site of vmWare and downloaded their solution. Once again using the interface CLI things start to download but then I thought that there was no update occurred or the boot. Nothing to do.

Here is the link to the drivers of the Areca. The installation instructions are great, but for the meta.zip file.

    FTP://FTP.areca.com.tw/RaidCards/AP_Drivers/VMware/ESXi_4/

    Any ideas? Thanks for help.

    John Ullom

I had a similar problem with the Areca 1222 (version 8 ports of yours).

I was able to fix by changing the zip file of Areca. In the folder while offline connection-bundle, you will find some arcmsr ARC - 1.20.00.15.vmk.100202 - offline_bundle - 262812.zip. Inside that zip you will find metadata.zip. Inside of this zip, look for vmware.xml. Modify the file as follows:

    Find the following text:

You should now be able to install the CLI.

  • RAID and TRIM Config for R720xd and SSD

    Hello

    I have:

    • Dell Poweredge R720xd
    • 4 x 800 GB Dell Intel brand SSD S3700 DC
    • 8 x 600 GB Dell brand Savvio 10K.6 hard drives 2.5 "
    • Reference Dell PERC H710P Mono Mini

I would like to configure the server with a RAID 5 array to another array of RAID 5 for hard drives and SSDS.

On the SSD, I read that:

    1. The H710P does not pass through TRIM/cancel orders the OS MAPPING
    2. TRIM is not really necessary because the RAID controller has a method to warn the reader that the block is unused
    3. A small percentage of the SSD (~ 5%) should be neglected.  In my view, that it is more provisioning.

    (3) above is really necessary when it comes to RAID with SSDS?  If so, how to achieve this?  Make:

allocate some 95% of the available SSD space only when you create the RAID volume?

    OR

devote 100% of the available disk space on the RAID volume and then when I create partitions during the OS installation, leave unallocated 5%?

    Hello

None of this is important. Questions that concern you have no effect on your configuration.

    jfly
    • The H710P does not pass through TRIM/cancel orders the OS MAPPING
    • TRIM is not really necessary because the RAID controller has a method to warn the reader that the block is unused

When you use a controller hardware RAID of the operating system has no control on the blocks. The operating system thinks that they control all blocks are virtual, so any TRIM/UMAP makes the BONE's virtual blocks.

    jfly
A small percentage of the SSD (~ 5%) should be neglected.  In my view, that it is more provisioning.

During the introduction of reach a level of training. SSD manufacturers allocate space for it. If you want to make additional supply, some drive manufacturers provide utilities to allow you to manipulate the supply, or you can just have unallocated space on the disk. All unallocated space will automatically be used by the reader, but I don't see a need for this SSD is already provided by the manufacturer.

  • Internal RAID leads to possible Xserve when using ESXi 5.1?

Does anyone know if there is a way to RAID the internal on a 3.1 Xserve drives when it runs as a host ESXi 5.1?

I'm looking to do a raid mirrored for redundancy.  Ideally, software RAID would be great, but I'm willing to use a hardware RAID card too, if that's what it takes.  Looks like the Apple for the Xserve RAID card is not supported.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

    -John

So yes, with no possibility of a supported card and no possibility to software RAID (ESXi does not that), then you are for the most part without options, unless you do some hackery as giving the discs directly to a computer virtual (not technically supported with SATA drives, but possible), using software RAID in the VM and looping while editing of ESXi.

  • Help Setup RAID SATA for ESXi 4.1

    Hello

It is the first time that you try to use vmware.  Any help is greatly appreciate!

I just built a server around the Intel s5500hcvr mother. I have 6 SATA HDD I want to set up in a RAID. The integrated RAID controller seems to be very limited and does not seem to be supported by ESXi 4.1 (when I run ESXi 4.1 installation and it asks for a location for installation, all my discs are individually listed instead of virtual drives that I created with the RAID controller)

    My questions:

    (1) what is the suggested configuration of HDD (RAID levels / number of berries) for ESXi 4.1?  Can I create 1 RAID 10 array and set everything up to that?  or take one of my disks and install esxi 4.1 on it and then create a RAID with the rest of my discs and use it to store data?

    (2) anyone can provide links to some SATA RAID controllers that are known to work with ESXi 4.1 (and is the supposed to recognize virtual readers created by the RAID controller setup ESXi 4.1)

Your motherboard has a RAID controller software which, as you have discovered, is completely not taken in charge by ESX/ESXi... You will need to get a RAID controller that is on the HCL for SAS and SATA hard drives (not one with battery backup write cache) so you can use any type of RAID configuration.

My preference for Internal RAID configurations (on the host) are two drives mirrored for ESX/ESXi to reside (preferably being SAS 10 k or 15 k RPM, 73 GB or 146 GB in size) and then another table for the data store. You'll want to keep the data slot store table 2 TB-512 b size in order to present to ESX/ESXi as a LUN. Or you will need to get a RAID card this split of the support to the top of the table in the smaller of the virtual drives that can be presented for ESX/ESXi and LUNS.

Search for controllers using the LSI MegaRAID chip as a good first lap. Some Adaptec cards should work, but I've seen people post questions on those recent (more recent than in the past). MANY manufacturers rebrand/efficiency the LSI MegaRAID Controllers server, such as the Dell PERC 6 series cards.

For the use of 4 disks SATA, RAID 10 (on a BBWC, fully supported, controller) will give you the best performance. It will compare with SAS drives however. IF you do not plan on any virtual machine running with anything beyond light IOPS / s then you should be ok (or with very light loads)... If this is going to be a production server, then get the SAS drives all around.

  • Internal Ricoh card reader of W700 XP x 64

I am very pleased that lenovo has finally decided to release Windows XP x 64 drivers. However, the drivers for the internal SD Ricoh card reader do not work on my W700 (2757CTO). When I insert an SD card into the reader, the LED lights but no drive does appear in 'My Computer' or 'Management\Disk computer management. " The driver installation went well and allowed also Ricoh three controllers (Memory Stick, SD/MMC, xD-Picture Card) for Device Manager. The Panel "Add or remove programs" lists a "ver.3.58.01 R5U8xx RICOH Media Driver' that this is supposed to be. I tested on a XP minimum 64 over x and the same SD card works fine in other two readers of cards (USB and ExpressCard). I also have Vista, x 64, and 7 x 64 on the same computer and the drive works properly under the two BONES. Any suggestions?

    Thank you

I found a solution myself. The problem is not caused by the Ricoh/Lenovo drivers but by the Microsoft SD Bus driver, which does not support the SDHC. There is a hotfix for x 86 XP provided by MS (KB934428). For x 64 However there is only a non-official source:

    http://thehotfixshare.NET/Board/index.php?AutoCom=downloads&ShowFile=9395

The x 64 new driver is Microsoft as well and I don't know why they don't officially offer it on their own site. At least, after you install this fix my card reader SD working properly.
