Internet Explorer Lock up on my Satellite Pro A120

Hi all

I seem to have problems when you use Internet Explorer. At irregular intervals (could be long enough could be quite short) Internet explorer seems to hang. On the occasion of the whole notebook locked leading to go through a hard reboot. This seems to occur when you use Internet Explorer (no matter what type of sites). When it crashes but not needing a hard reboot I can still moves me mouse etc. but system generally acts as if it was under heavy load (IE windows / screen in general does not update if I switch Windows, can't close tabs or IE in general). Sometimes after only a few minutes it will rectify itself and sometimes I have to reboot the machine.

Anyone an idea what can cause this problem. I previously had a one-non-Toshiba notebook and got this laptop as a replacement of insurance due to accidental damage. I never had this problem on my old laptop and never have it on my desktop computer.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello

To be honest, I've never heard something like that. With the help of a few different models of laptops from Toshiba (an old and new also) I never noticed any problems with IE.

It will be interesting to know what made it happen using another browser. Try FireFox or Opera.

  • Re: Satellite Pro A120 - CD error appears

I have problems with a laptop Satellite Pro A120. When the laptop is turned on it is possible to open the CD/DVD drive, so I know the drive functions.

"However, when the laptop is turned on, the computer displays the screen"in touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA"for a long time, and then the screen goes black and the message CD ERROR" appears. Drive D and does not show on explore.

I found the instructions to remove LowerFilters and UpperFilters of
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318.

by running "regedit", but during the restart, the laptop the problem remains.

I tried also tried to launch the "Product recovery" CD from an external hard drive, but restarting does not account for the CD, but, once restart is completed, it can be seen that it that the external drive was saved.

When the computer is disconnected on "memory which cannot be read" message is displayed.

I would be very grateful for a quick response.

    Hey,.

To be honest, if the CD-ROM error message appears before Windows starts, there seems to be a hardware malfunction. So maybe the CD/DVD drive is not recognized correctly, and therefore the Toshiba screen appears for a long time.

Remove the caps and lowerfilters won't help you, it is a software based only

You should look for a new CD/DVD drive. As a result, you can ask a service provider authorized in your country. They can offer you a compatible player. :)

    Hello

    I have a Satellite Pro A120 xp sp3.
I tried so it can recognize a 2nd hard drive on the secondary ide channel, but it will not. CD player has been removed and replaced by one of them, the with the pata to sata interface.

    [http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_27&produc ts_id = 245]

The second hard drive is a 500 GB seagate sata drive. Drive is spinning and powered but not appearing is not in the Manager of management or storage device.

In the Bio (uptodate), it shows me it but won't let me change it.

    The readers of e/s
Built on the disk HARD = serial ATA port 0
    CD rom = secondary ide (170H - IRQ 15)

For me, the material is able to support two HARD drives that you remove the cd player, but it seems that the bio is me locking out the deselection of CD-ROM on the second IDE channel.
Please could someone point me in the right direction to solve this problem.

    Thank you

    Hello

I read this story carefully and to be honest I m not sure if a second HDD (instead of the STRANGE) can be used

My knowledge the IDE second controller does support all the ODD (CD/dvd drive) due to different master/slave/c-salt settings.
I think it's the same case, why the second HDD is not recognized correctly

I recently bought a Satellite Pro A120 with Windows Vista professional. I have a problem with the DVD player (Mat * a DVD - RAM) because sometimes when I insert a CD of the software, the disk turns but does not recognize the drive.

I tried different CD, but the problem is the same. I can only solve the problem by restarting the computer. That always seems to happen unless the PC has barely started.

I installed the latest version of the BIOS and still have the problem.

    Hello

Hear you the CD cannot be read or the AutoPlay window does not appear?
Have you used the CD s compatible?

In the manual, you should find a list of compatible CD s & s DVD.
But be aware that the user guide lists only the manufacturers of CD and DVD and NOT sellers like TDK or Verbatim, etc...

In the internet, you could find some freeware software that finds this which is the manufacturing of CD or DVD.
Then, you can compare your CD/DVD with compatible manufacturers manufacturing and supported in the operating manual.

If the CD or DVD is not listed as compatible support or supported various compatibility problems could appear.

  • Satellite Pro A120 has network problems

    Mr President.

I, Jayarajan.C.N, working as an Assistant Executive Engineer in the Kerala State Electricity Board, Kerala, India.
We had a laptop brand Thoshiba (Satellite Pro A120 type; PTA83L-08L02N model number; SL.no. Y6131B1488H) as part of a package of type brand MD - 2000 Tesient relay.

We use this laptop for other official purposes also. It works smoothly.

But we were faced with the following problems:
    1. we could connect the computer laptop in Local Area Networking with other desktop computers and laptop. But we could not transmit or receive data from the other computer.

    2. we could connect us the laptop to the network in ad-hoc mode wireless and the laptop showed the link as 'excellent '. But as in the case of LAN, data may not be transferred or received.

    3. we tried to use dial-up modem to the laptop. But we do not have internet access. The error showed was 'busy line (error 676) '. In fact, the line was not busy.

    4. we checked to access internet using Reliance Netconnect USB modem after installing its software. He also failed in showing the "username & passwords are wrong in this area.

    5. I added an init string in the Toshiba modem commands: AT & FX1. But before that, I made a mistake. I installed the Client Services for Netware. After that, the connection mode was changed. But I don't know how to uninstall "client services for Netware". I selected the account control user - change the way users log on or off, I received the following message: "client for Netware has disabled the display of welcome and quick user agrees." To restore these features, you must uninstall client services for Netware. As I said before, I don't know how to uninstall the same. Now during log on, I have to use ctrl + alt + delete to log on.

After you have added the string init AT & FX1, I have only seen the modem trying to catch the net until the "veryfying username and password. But he could not catch the net. Please note that I had installed the client services for Netware. I saw that the modem has been "connecting" even after a few minutes and I noticed the system reacted very slowly.

In short, we cannot achieve any type of networking and by error logging has been changed...
We ask your advice detailed without delay.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Satellite Pro A120 - cannot boot from CD/DVD drive

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 of friends, he was running very slow so I said I'd do the usual for him.
Back up all his documents, and then reinstall windows. not so easy!

First of all, try to boot from the CD so I can boot into Ubuntu or reinstall windows.
Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.

From time to time I get an error saying + "Media test failure - check cable" + or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject.
I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Able to boot Ubuntu from a USB key.
Try to copy its documents on my external drive but really copying REALLY slow (like 1 MB/s) and kept getting IO errors on some files.
I can't run diagnostic software for HARD drive that I can not boot from the CD (could get the Ultimate Boot CD on a USB but if anyone thinks it would help?).

In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR).
    This means a failing drive?
What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the portable CD player with a CD of work of another computer and windows recognize today this new CD player at all!

By putting a bootable CD in this new CD player, it always starts from the HARD drive (do not recognize CD player in all).
The BIOS is a bit unnecessary and does not show the detected disks...

Also, boot Ubuntu from a USB key, with the original CD player, he reads real CD and DVD copied of all zeros are considered blank discs and replace the CD drive with a known working in Ubuntu means its not recognized at all (if this isn't windows driver problems).

When I started messing around with it I remember windows say the time had been reset, so I set the time properly, then he did the same thing again I think. A flat CMOS battery could not be responsible for this?

Is the motherboard and specifically the IDE controller or a broken ports, or am I doing something stupid? I'm tempted to just install Ubuntu by USB and tell him not to bother with CD more ;^)

Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated!

    Thank you
    Dan Gent

    > Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.
You see the CD/DVD drive in BIOS? I mean all the details like the name WEIRD etc.
If this isn't the case, then it means that your CD/DVD drive is not recognized by the BIOS due to a hardware problem.

If you can see the STRANGE in the BIOS but are still not able to boot from any disk, then I suppose that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk for different reasons.
One of the reasons could be a defective or damage the laser lens

    > Every so often, I would get an error saying "Media test failure - check cable" or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject. I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Yes, this error means that your laptop tried to boot from LAN

    > In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR). This means a failing drive?

As I said above, it would be possible that the reader s laser lens malfunctions and, therefore, the ODD can't handle the media. It seems that the laser lens can not calibrate properly and can not move in the correct position. This question is not repairable and the drive needs to be replaced.

    > What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the CD drive with a CD of work of another laptop and windows don't recognize this new CD player at all!

The fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible due to different master/slave/C-salt settings. You must use the supported players! In most cases, you can find a list in your user manual what CD/DVD readers are compatible.

  • Question about change in ODDs region settings - Satellite Pro A120

Why are there at - it limit the number of times, you can change the region settings when you watch DVDs from other countries? Why?

They don't realize the world becomes smaller and is it possible to buy DVDs from anywhere in the world? They refuse to help the global economy? I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 with a carpet * a UJ841S optical drive that is locked on region 1, how can I get it unlocked and how do I get it so I can watch DVD so many different regions without having to be limited to the region of switching 5 times? Of course, I'm not the only person who feels this way, come on Tosh do something to help the consumer.

    Can anyone help?

    Published by: ADMIN

    Hi Paul

What to say I put t understand this too, but there are some restrictions of manufacturers of different record companies and movie studios that don t allow you to change the region code.

The world is divided into 7 regions of DVD.
    Region 1 - Canada and the U.S.
Region 2 - Europe, Japan, Middle East and South Africa
Region 3 - South and Southeast Asia
Region 4 - Australia and South America
Region 5 - Africa, the Russia and the rest of Asia
    Region 6 - China

Readers of generation original DVD came with a firmware level that became known as RPC 1.
RPC 1 discs themselves are able to play any region but depends on the installed Reader software to control which region is played.

But most DVD players (* not matter what is manufacturing *) are equipped with the RPC-2.
RPC 2 drives usually come with a limit of 5 change on the regions, once the counter reaches 0, your drive is locked permanently in the last region it was settled in.
Even if you reformat or move the drive to another system, it will be always locked to the last region.

Such a region code limitation is very annoying for everyone, but nothing to do
Of course you will find many websites that provide any software programs and free non-legal area, but for the most part, these programs can damage firmware own disks and this would lead to bigger problems. In most cases readers cannot handle all mediums and can not read or burn to CD/DVD.

  • Satellite Pro A120 - impossible to get a PCMCIA card work

OK, I have a problem with cardbus (xp SP2) of my Satellite Pro A120.

I use the cardbus slot to add conections firewire via an IEEE 1394 cardbus card and have been doing this for a long time. The other night, my computer came into hibernation with the card still in the slot and still in use, and when I tried to use it the next day, the card wasn't working at all.
So I thought that had died on me and has brought another, this one to be exact [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839314003].

When I plug the new card into the slot, windows starts the installation add something new but can't find the driver, nothing on the CD provided, and it does not conect to windows update to find an ethier. Thus, the new card does not work and do not settle, it appears just with! next to pci device.

I have searched all over the internet to find the driver, read the manual etc. I even did a fresh install of windows so that he could find the drivers but nope.
The only thing I can think is the slot does not except 32-bit cardbus, but in my manual it says this:

«The computer is equipted with a pc card slot which can accomedate type II card.» Any pc card that meets the standards of the industry can be installed. Housing supports 16-bit pc cards, including pc cards 16 multifunction card and cardbus pc cards. CardBus supports a new standard for 32-bit pc cards".

    Any help please

    Thank you

    > I can't find drivers anywhere!
Usually, it takes the CD with drivers with the product. So if you don't have it try to find the driver on the manufacturers support page.
    Try with this one http://www.belkin.com/support/product/?lid=en&pid=F5U222

    Good luck!

I don't know that it will have been asked before, however...

I received a Satellite Pro A120-107 XP. Because XP is not supported, I would like to upgrade to Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. Who should I go for?

I think I need to improve my memory (currently 512 MB) at least 1 GB. Or should I go to 2 GB. Which would be better?

And I need a BIOS upgrade? He is currently using vn 1.50 08/24/2006. If I do, what version?

In your case, I'll try to install Win 7 on this good old classic.

8.1 Win is the latest system from Microsoft but I'm afraid, you will have some problems with drivers m.

Win 7 would be the best choice in this case

  • Upgrade SSD for Satellite Pro A120

    Hello
I have a satellite pro A120, which feels a little tired. I did research SSD upgrades to replace the HARD drive, but I don't know if I can update or not. I would really appreciate any advice or information you can give me.

    Thank you

    Hello

You can upgrade the laptop with an SSD. You need a disc SSD SATA 2.5 as the A120 supports the SATA controller.
Not quite sure about the SSD size but I guess a 250 GB should be recognized correctly.
