  Since your not sure what the 'others' are I would recommend you to restore your iPhone. I know that you will lose all your data, but not restore from a backup of iCloud so start as a new phone. You can back up your choice and if necessary to write all your contacts on a sheet of paper and then add hide them. Depending on the severity, you want that storage

  Hello, I own a 4 s 8 GB iPhone only. Pay: keep always a little free space, I synchronize my photos with Photos from Google. When the pictures are on the server, I delete the photos in the library and I empty the "deleted photos" folder.

  The problem is this: I notice that I only - 200 MB free (local storage) then when I plug in the iPhone on iTunes, iTunes tells me that I have 1.4 GB free (which seems to be most logical)

  You do not download El Capitan of the operating system, you download the Setup program for the El Capitan operating system.

  The installer is probably running and waiting for you to start the installation process. If this is not the case, look to install OS X El Capitan in the Applications folder.
