Is a program to open zip included in Windows Vista or Microsoft Office files?

Try to open a zip file and Windows Vista can't seem to accomplish.  Also have Microsoft Office.  Is there a file that automatically opens zip files in any of the two?  How to open a zip file?

It is included with Vista, but is called decompression/compression instead of compression/decompression.

Here's briefly how to do it:http://www.ehow.com/how_4963978_open-zip-files-vista.html.

If it doesn't, the Zip file associations have been lost somehow and must be repaired (I'm not sure what caused it - maybe some setting inadvertently or the hidden keyboard command).

Here is a link to how to restore Vista zip file association: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/65254-zip-file-support-restore.html this should restore for compressed files zip file association and hopefully remove of open file (but which may take another measure).

Here is another link on how to enable and disable the files compressed in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/93827-zip-file-compressed-folders.html.

Here is a link on how to restore default binding settings in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/233243-default-file-type-associations-restore.html. This should also restore default associations of open files that include no zip.

Between these three links, you should be able to restore files zip compressed file association and not with open files - indeed, return things to their default settings.

Here are some additional links that may be useful if the three above do not resolve the problem:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91920-unassociate-file-extention-type.html,http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/restore-and-reset-file-association-in-windows-vista-back-to-original-default/,http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/reset-and-fix-broken-windows-vista-file-ext-and-type-associations-include-exe-com-sys-zip-lnk-folder-drive/and http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html.

I hope this helps.  Good luck!

  • After uninstalling printer Windows Installer and Microsoft Office error "this update package not could be opened"

Original title: Windows Installer and Microsoft Office problems after you have uninstalled the printer

I tried to install more than one printer, a HP Photosmart C4280 by downloading the drivers and updates on the HP site. I uninstalled the printer after it failed to scan a document and I had no more use for it. Then the trouble started. When I tried to open some programs (iTunes, Skype, etc.) for the first time after the uninstall of the printer, a window "Windows Installer" popped up. After you have configured Windows Installer, the program would open normally. However, when I try to open any Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), Windows Installer appears, but it turns into a window that reads:
"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer update package. »

Microsoft Office programs are open at all, and I desperately need my programs of Microsoft Office to work even faster. I would appreciate it if Windows Installer will stop trying to configure when I open a program also. Can someone help me please?

  • How to open a pdf and read/print using Microsoft Works file?

Error message: Works cannot open "C:\Users\Desktop\Zeke's Menu.pdf.  The file may be in use by another application, the file format is not supported by any of the installed converters or the file may be corrupt.

How to open this file and read/print using Microsoft Works or Notepad or something else?

You can't with these programs - (there is no same Modules for these programs) - you need another program.  You must download the free Acrobat Reader http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/ allowing you to read and print PDF files (but you will not be able to edit/modify them with this program).

To edit/change you need another program like free PDF Editor: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Business/MS_Office_Add-ins/Free_PDF_Editor.html.  You can also download the free OpenOffice Suite 3.2 http://www.openoffice.org/ which is capable to download and work with PDF files (via the writer program).  The good thing about OpenOffice is that you can then save the file in another format which CAN be read and used by Microsoft Works or Notepad (even though it may look very different without the features of PDF).  OpenOffice is very similar to Microsoft Office and most of the people who do not want to pay for Microsoft Office get OpenOffice instead because it is by far the best alternative (and some say that it is even better - although I don't agree with that).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Free games included with Windows Vista will not start.

I tried to start one of the games for free in Windows Vista (Chess Titans, FreeCell, hearts, Mahjong Titans, Solitaire etc.) but I get an error measage: "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action.  Create an association in the Set Associaction Control Panel". {Error code: C:\User\Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\GamesExplorer\{00D8862B-6453-4957-A...}.
These games, used to work until I have connected on the Microsoft web site and search for updates.

I went to control panel default programs - programs - '-' associate a file or protocol type with a program, without success.

Can anyone help or give advice as to re-download these games?

    Hi PaulO246,

Thank you for directing your question on the forums of answers.microsoft.com.

Is it only the games that are carried out at this stage, PaulO246?  Are there other programs or files that are not associated with?  Have you seen errors referring to a failed installation of the update or mistakes that can be reported on this subject?

To review the event viewer to obtain this information, please see the following article.

    http://windowshelp.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/a99f69c1-935f-4116-ba5f-33d8800ef9da1033.mspx

If you would like to connect the error codes, such as 800b0100 or 8007371 b Please post these errors as well as any verbiage on the observer error events lists in newspapers of the forum.

We will try to verify this information when it is available.

If you don't want to take that step right now:

A way to solve this, if you have a good restore point, you can go back to it and then starts with the download updates manually one by one with control over games between each install to confirm that update was the cause.

    To perform a restore system;

Please make sure that you have all the important information saved before trying to do a system restore.
    1. click on start
    2. in the search box just above start System Restore type (you don't have to hit enter to get this to appear)
    3. in the list above system restore search box must be the top of the page, click on system restore
    4. This should appear an assistant of system restore, it will walk through the steps on how to do a system restore to the last known better.

Please let us know in the forum about how the status of this issue or any other necessary assistance.
