is it possible to create a raw device on a logical volume?

Hi all.

The BP is 11.2.0.3 on a linux machine.

Is it possible to create a raw device on a cluster service WITHOUT logical volume of provider of operating system such as HACMP (AIX), Guard (HP) of Service?
The following is os information.

    Hello VMware communities!

I vSphere, and I am trying to share a logic unit number that I created on my san between two VirtualMachines.

The VirtualMachines are located on two different ESX hosts.

Since VMFS can cluster support and access to a disc in multiple locations-i want to create a RDM device for two virtual machines. This should allow to share storage LUN that I put aside for them out of the san. However, the option of the RDM is empty when I try and add a hard drive. Evidence of why this is not enabled?

    Or,

Have I not my wrong setting?

    Thanks for any response.

First at all, be sure that your LUN RDM is visible on ESX / adapter/Import/Storage Configuration.

If not, make a new analysis and if still is not visible, it is a problem with the configuration of your storage space.

  • Best practices - virtual disk of Raw device mapping vs

    Hello

A small question about the configuration. What would be described as the best practice to configure a comment server that required a large amount of disk space? What is the preferred option:

1 - create a virtual machine with a mapping of raw device to the LUN (on a san)

    or

2 - create a virtual machine with another large virtual disk that is in a data store on the LUN (on a san)

    Thank you

    Dave

Kader you are limited with 2 TB in any case (except using the iSCSI software from within the guest operating system), the only arguments are:

    (1) use RDM if it is possible that you will connect to this physical machine LUN. Or you already have the unit number logic of a physical machine as a large file server.

    (2) VMFS use in all other situations - VMDK give flexibility, you can migrate the virtual machine where you want.

  • Is it possible to create a Local administrator user when you use the Profile Manager to get the configuration settings

    Hello

We are studying the use of the Profile Manager of OS X as a way to manage our Enterprise macs.

One of the demands made by the team, is to create an administrator user, as part of the OS X Profile which is lowered to the customer. The rationale is that this would be a way for the it team get, if the fubar user had their Mac

I did not see this anywhere in the configuration options of the Profile Manager and so ask the people who use it as part of their everyday Toolbox, to find out if such an option is available.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Madan failed

No, not with the Profile Manager.

How you deploying your company Mac?  As institutionally imagery or as BYOD devices?  If image, then the image should contain a coherent local administrator account.  If the active image also the Apple Remote Desktop or SSH, you have a method of mass, control and manage the devices.  If BYOD style, then you are out of luck that the end user is the only one with the key of the device.

You can take a look at following JAMF Casper.  Once devices are registered, you have the possibility to create accounts (However the common method is to create an account on registration).  If you deploy a BYOD approach, you should also look into DEP program Apple (https://deploy.apple.com) as more DEP JAMF (or other MDM) is a very powerful tool for light to zero touch deployment of systems.

  • RAW Device Mappings is grayed out

Hello everyone.  I'm a noob EXSi/VMware, so I'm a little out of my comfort zone.  I have a Supermicro motherboard with an onboard SAS controller which is supported in EXSi 6.  I have eight 4 TB drives, attached to the SAS HBA and 2 connected to the integrated SATA SSDS.  I was able to add all readers as warehouses of data and that works very well.  But I need to devote several full discs on a virtual computer and I have not been able to get this working as RDM option is grayed out any virtual machine, I try.  Tried to remove one of the hard drives for data warehouses (missing) but I still don't see it as an option (and now I can not see it when I try to add back as a data store but that's another issue).

I did research on this question and I tried to disable the RDMFILTER option in the advanced settings and no go.  I tried to run the process in article KB 1017530 (Raw Device Mapping for Local storage, I get the following error:)

    vmkfstools - z/vmfs/devices/disks/t10. ATA___TS32GSSD25S2DM___201009163653400631A4:9 /vmfs/volumes/APPSSD/RDM/rdm9.vmdk

I thought that I needed to create the folder ROW in the store, so I did and then I got a new message:

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

  • Is it possible to create stand-alone programs of java with java ME 8

    Hello

Java ME compare to java SE, I feel that midlets are similar to applets.

When you work with java, I generally stand-alone programs.

Now, I wonder if it is possible to also create stand-alone programs for java ME, if classes are only using java ME API.

I already noticed that netbeans does not build a project that does not contain a moped, but perhaps, it is possible to create a jar file

using the command javac and jar. Or y at - it specific a reason why netbeans does not generate a project without midlets?

The reason for the request is that I often make small tools in java that ae so called from a script of linux. I guess this could be useful on the invoice pro forma raspberry as well.

    Thanks in advance

    Jef

    Hi Jef-

Java ME compare to java SE, I feel that midlets are similar to applets.

Sort of - similar life cycle methods - if on a conceptual level, Yes.

Now, I wonder if it is possible to also create stand-alone programs for java ME, if classes are only using java ME API.

In a way, Yes. If you build a project, you will notice a file JAD and JAR files in the project's dist directory.  JAD is the descriptor to a MIDlet - in mobile devices, the JAD

file is loaded first to determine if the MIDlet has enough privileges to load and run, before the corresponding JAR file is downloaded.

However, the JAD file can also be included in the manifest of the JAR and copied to the device manually embedded JAR and run there.

I already noticed that netbeans does not build a project that does not contain a moped, but perhaps, it is possible to create a jar file

using the command javac and jar. Or y at - it specific a reason why netbeans does not generate a project without midlets?

You can create JAR files and include them in embedded Java ME projects, but just like cmdlets, use the system (EMS) demand management IP of raspberry, you have a moped to run.

Perhaps mean you that you do not want to launch the AMS and load a moped from the command line on the invoice proforma?

If so, take a look at this section of the Getting Started Guide for the Raspberry Pi.

  • Is it possible to create a generic image of Windows 7?

    Hello world

Is it possible to create an image of gold that can be "deployed" on multiple machines?

    If so, how do you?

    Kind regards

    Nick

as mentioned by others, there are many ways... WDS, SCCM, Windows AIK and windows deployment Toolkit etc. to deploy to create the image...

For VMware is the best and easy thing you can do

1 - Install VM windos7 and install VMware tools and customize it according to your need

2 - Sysprep image - if you want to regenerate the SID

Now to run sysprep, you must launch the administrator command prompt. Then navigate to the sysprep folder by typing: cd sysprep and press to enter.

    Then, enter the following commands:

    Sysprep/generalize/shutdown /oobe

    3. This stops the virtual machine.

4 now, create a virtual appliance in the OVF format or egg, merge, select the virtual machine and in the menu bar > click file > then select the "export to OVF" then give a file name and a location. In the name of the file name with the extension of file OVA. It's VMxxxxxxx.OVA that will save the device in a single file.

5 - Once finished, you can use this OVA for a deployment, or simply, you can also copy the VMDK virtual machine. OVA will consume less space than the VMDK.

NOTE: If you want to do the automatic cusotmization which is after the SYSPREP you need an answer file to automate the rest of the deployment process. You can use free tools like VLITE (http://www.vlite.net/download.html) or Windows System Image Manager (WSIM)

Once the answer file created, give a name to this file as unattend.xml or Autounattend.xmlfile.

Copy or the unattend.xml file to: C:\windows\system32\sysprep.

    then run the sysprep tool

    Sysprep/generalize/shutdown /unattend:unattend.xml /oobe

An answer for Windows Vista and Windows 7 file is an XML file that contains the definitions of parameters and values to use during Windows Setup.  The best way to create an answer file for use with a Windows 7 deployment is to use the Windows System Image Manager (WSIM) which is part of the Kit Setup automated Windows (Windows AIK or WAIK).

  • Migration of raw device to VMDK virtual card reader

    Hi all

I currently have 3 5.0.0 ESX 504890 hosts.  I have about 12 people who unfortunately have mapped drives of raw device.  I would like to convert VMDK to a data store.  I have VMware Standard, so I vMotion and Storage vMotion at my disposal.

I tried a migration of guests which has a hard drive of the RDM.  Steps are the following:

    1. Right-click on the client
    2. Select migrate
    3. Select change Datastore
    4. Click on advanced
    5. Select the data store that I want to spend.
    6. Select thin provision
    7. Click next

Once it's over it's now a VMDK created in the data store but when I go in the settings on the guest he always shows as RDM.  I'm doing something wrong here as the VMDK which was create shows, it has been changed at the end of the procedure.

Thank you for taking the time to read/post on my question.

  • How to find the logic of a RAW device unit ID-number

    Hello

I am trying to create a workflow that will give me information about a virtual machine:

    • RAM

      • Size, SCSI Bus

My problem is to understand the LUN ID to a RAW device in a virtual computer.

I think, a RAW device is listed as the VcVirtualDisk type too?

Anyone know how to determine the LUN ID of a RAW device?

  • Creation of Raw Device Mapping (RDM) is not supported for local storage (1017530)

"Often, localstorage devices do not support VPD page 0x83 and can therefore be used for Raw Device Mappings (RDMS)." The content of the page 0x83 is used as a unique identifier for the device. For more information, see creating Raw Device Mapping (RDM) is not supported for local storage (1017530). »

Does anyone know if this is even the case for modern storage?

We are a dell shop, wishing to take advantage of the ability to create up to 64 TB RDM.

However, the storage of the host in question will be local SAS only.

Prefer not to have to merge muliple 2 TB VMDK into windows to make a record of 4.5 to.

Then projected on the presentation 1 x 4.5 CT rdm

If you plan to use a SAS controller, you should be able to do this. Your drive will be identified as a device of the naa, and you will be able to add as an RDM to VM - only with ESXi 5 (which can support more than 2 TB LUN).

  • VM cloning with raw device mapped drive

    Hey people... need help.

I have a virtual machine that lives on a 500 GB Lun. The virtual machine has a C: drive of 60 GB (OS) and a 1.5 TB Raw Device Mapped LUN.

My problem is I'm trying to clone this machine to have a backup of it. However when I try to clone a 500 GB or even 1 TB data store it says that I don't have enough space to do. I went and removed the RDM 1.5 TB LUN in cloning options so that it would only clone the C: drive. Still the same message.

Also I noticed that the data of 500 GB store the VM currently living has a hard 1.5 to file which I assume is the Raw Device mapped LUN. Why this creates a file if it is mapped SAN. How she even to create a file of 1.5 TB on a 500 GB data store?

Certainly, this seems to be the reason.  Instead of a clone, use vmware converter standalone and treat the VM as a physical server.  That should allow you to continue.  If nothing else, you can 'remove' the raw device of the VM, clone and then add the raw device to the original.  Converter should work well.
