ISCSI vss for vds VMK migration

ESXi 5.0.0 469512

vCenter 5.0.0 455964

I am migrating standard switches in the switches distributed in my lab and would like to know how to migrate the vmk iSCSI vSS to the vDS.  I read through a few articles and a few vmware docs but have not been able to find any useful info.  Very well, I moved my portgroups\vmks management, vm, and vmotion.  When I try to migrate the vmk iSCSI to the vDS portgroup via the Wizard add a host, I get the following message appears saying that the vmk is always linked to the iscsi adapter.

"This can only be done while the vmkernel network adapter vmk2 is used by the iSCSI adapter.  Remove the VMKernel network adapter
adapter for iSCSI to carry out this operation. "

Do I really need during dissociation of the core of the iSCSI adapter?  I do this manually in some way?  If this is the case, what are the General steps for getting the vmk iscsi migrated successfully?

Another question...  I read that it is not a good idea to have vCenter virtualized and using vDS and actually Vmware does not support.  Even if it's a waste of nics, vCenter should have it's own of the vss?

Thank you!

I had the same error/scenario and that's what I did to make it work.

(1) I put the host in maintenance mode (optional but wasn't sure of the result)

(2) entered in the vmhba iSCSI storage--> properties--> tab Configuration network adapters and removed the two vmk, I created on the vSS service in order to configure paths multiple iSCSI.  Once you remove the vmk, your host will see iSCSI data warehouses, but you won't just active multipathing (I went from 2 devices - 4 paths of 2 devices - 2-way).

(3) went home--> inventory--> Networking and had all my dv port pre-created groups. Right clicked on the dvSwitch and click on manage hosts.

(4) click on the checkbox for a host that I am train (in maintenance mode) and made the migration as documented in the above pdf.

(5) I re-entered the vmhba iSCSI storage adapters and added the two new vmk (which should have the same number of vmk carried out the vSS service).

(6) repeat the other hosts one at a time

Sorry I had to type this out quickly.  Let me know if I was not clear on some time.

    I need to spend all my machines virtual vss a vds

    Basically, all virtual machines are on vswitch3

    I need to move them to dvs3

  • Moving from VSS to VDS and how many have

    Having some difficulty deciding to VDS how we should have in our Organization.

    We have 4 clusters all under one site, wait for 1 of them they run all 2 VSS, one for data and one for iSCSI storage. 1 cluster that is different is the last cluster of Production that still turns a VSS for iSCSI, but data are running on a VDS.

    Data of each cluster network is identical and connect to the same basic switch, all the VLANS on all clusters are identical

    Each iSCSI network cluster runs in its own set of switches and do not touch each other so very isolation.

    I'm a fan of join our VDS data network, but I've seen several posts on how to configure for Sites and I was wondering what is the best for our environment.

    I heard that normally it is 1 VDS to rule them all, but I think plus 1 VDS for each cluster and not one for the site.
    The reason behind this is that the role of each cluster is very different and I would like to work on clusters in a vacuum and I know that if I make a change in that it won't have another effect.

    Cluster-1 prod (5 guests) < == cluster of Production for applications outside of our web site main base claim system

    Dev cluster (6 guests) < == pole of development for all the work of development

    UAT Cluster (2 guests) < == user acceptance tests before accepting the changes in demand

    Prod Cluster 2 (2 guests, which has the vds) < == main cluster of Production for our web-based system

    So what you think 1 per site, 1 by cluster or stay with VSS

    First of all, go to vDS probably :-) And on how many vDS, I don't like the idea of a single vDS for the whole environment (including testing) but a vDS for clusters is too if you have clusters with similar roles, and for this reason I propose a vDS for the production Cluster and another for Dev/UAT Cluster.

  • Not there at - it no learning of MAC in vSS or vDS?

    Hi all

    Sometimes, I found that a document said that there is no learning of MAC in vSS or vDS? Is this true?

    The original statement is: «detect with authority what reception filters configured for the virtual Ethernet cards - no learning of MAC»

    What it means?

    Thank you

    virtual switches in an ESX environment do not contain a picture of cam, therefore, do not store the MAC address information.  either upstream or downstream, this is handled by the vmkernel.  It is also by design, because there is no CAM table that they do not suffer from problems of Spanning tree, but of course do your physical switches upstream.

  • vDS to migration cold vDS

    Is there an easier way to cold migrate a VM from vDS VDS service without removing the vNIC?

    My current environment has 2 data centers physically separated with about 15 guests in each.  vCenter is configured with each data center physical with a single Datacenter/15-host Cluster and vDS defined for each.

    The current process before the cold migration is to remove the vNIC (s), and then migrate the virtual machine to the desired location.  Is there a way to better or easier to do this?  My dvPgs exactly the same labelling would solve this problem?

    For this kind of scenario, we have created the following workaround solution in our environment:

    Create an additional vDS (we called it TransferSwitch), add all the guests of all the centres of data/clusters, but without any physical connection.

    A migration process cold one cluster/datacenter to another then realized in three steps:

    1. connect the NIC of the virtual machine to the TransferSwitch

    2 cold migrate the virtual computer to the destination

    3. connect the NIC of the virtual machine to the destination vDS

    This avoids remove/re-adding NIC of the virtual machine and all the consequences (as a new device detected in the guest operating system, with a different MAC address).

    You can create the right TransferSwitch temporarily for each VM migration, but we decided to keep everything permanently.

  • UCSM / VMware vCenter Server dependencies for vDS

    I'm still trying to wrap my head around the differences between the vDS created via UCSM / VMware vCenter integration and the traditional N1K.

    If correctly, the vDS UCSM (1.4) does not require the VSM device which is necessary with the N1K.  And if that is correct, is there any dependency on vCenter?  If vCenter falls down the vDS will continue to operate normally as made them act as the VSM?

    Pete,

    There is a dependency on vCenter, similar to N1kv (software) and UCSM vDS (hardware), applies to both methods of implementation. However, if vCenter goes down the current state of the operation continues. When a change occurs on the virtual machine, that is where should be upward a vCenter race.

    Concerning best practices, I was that it is better to have everything on the vDS for operational reasons. You can then apply and manage the kernal ports in the same case that VM vNIC. QoS, etc... There is a nice documentation on www.cisco.com/go/designzone data Center on this topic.

  • Online support for RAID5-10 migration on H700

    Our client has a T610 with a H700 integrated controller functioning as a host VMware 5.5 server there currently 6 disks in a single Bay RAID5.  The current RAID5 LUN consumes all available space, although the actual allocated storage is much less.

    Let's change the function of the server significantly, adding an app of the important data.  As part of this, I would like to add a couple more readers and convert the table to a pair of paintings RAID10 4 discs.

    I don't want to go into details of the allocated space, the size of the LUN, etc, here - we can manage that.  My question is, if the allocated space corresponds to the size of the target table I can make this migration online?

    Key questions:

    -I can reduce the size of the RAID5 LUN at all or anywhere near actual allocated space?

    -can I convert table RAID5 RAID10 - once again, assuming that allocated space should be?

    -I'd better first add additional disks and converted to a table of RAID10 8 - drive and then divide into two sets of 4 disks?

    -What specific Dell server management software must be installed?   Or is it only possible at the start of the BIOS?

    Of course, I make backups first!

    -Ken

    Regarding the managed material VD (tables/MON) go to:

    You can never "shrink" a picture by reducing the number of discs or the allocated space.

    Controllers do not support migration or nested RAID levels (10/50/50)... for example, you cannot add two drives to 4-drive RAID 10 either.

    If you plan to switch to a RAID 10 (which I support), then you will have to the data being backed up and restore in the new array.

    Hello

    We intend to migrate our EBS R12.1 using 11.2.0.4 database of Solaris Sparc-64 for Linux x 86-64.

    What is the best choice out of the following methods:

    1. transportable Tablespace - using DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER

    2. transportable Tablespace - the use of CONVERT RMAN

    There are other methods available for the object apart from the two?

  • MySQL for Oracle Database Migration

    I'm migrating 75 Tables of MySQL (5.0.18) to Oracle (10.2.0.1.0) using SQL-Developer (2.1.1.64)

    Below are the steps to follow to a State where I'm stuck:

    1: opens a connection with MySQL (5.0.18) which has * 86 * databases.
    2: open another connection with Oracle (10.2.0.1.0); a new installation.
    3: just clicked one of the MySQL database and selected ' + * Capture schema * + ".
    After the capture, this particular database appeared on ' + * models Captured * + ".
    4: right-click on this model converted, that says "* [email protected]:3306 (MySQL), etc. * ' and selected ' + convert model Oracle +".
    5: nothing appeared on the "* Converted models."

    ~~~~~~~~~~~ Stuck ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Another thing:
    -If I select different tables of the database under "* models Captured *" and then convert them then ' * SQL Developer * "generate converted models.
    -If I repeat anyone else of tables "* Converted model *" are generated.
    Am I suppose to repeat this step for each Table, the trigger, view etc.?
    Also the * 'Script' * output even * "name of the constraint *; Viz
    + Cdr5 ALTER TABLE ADD CONSTRAINT PRIMARY PRIMARY KEY (table_id) ENABLE; +
    Constraint must have derived the name of the table. Otherwise, you will have repeated migrations:
    Error report:*.
    SQL error: ORA-02264: name already used by an existing constraint
    + 02264. 00000 - 'name already used by an existing constraint ' +.
    There is a problem with SQL Developer 2.1.1 with JDK1.6 less than 18 years of age and older, during the conversion of a migration phase, with exactly the symptoms you describe.
  • Discover the vSS or vDS news
    Hello
    Maybe I'm missing something obvious - but can I create a view that shows me all the hosts and the vMotion portgroup, NIC, NIC say political (as active and standby)?
    Thank you
    In short, it is not that I am aware of. It's one of the things I hate about vrops. All object relationships seem to be there under the hood, but vmware do not seem to expose all. An example is a list of virtual machines and data store name, sure it is. You cannot create a view because the data store is not a point of data in the virtual computer object, but if you look at the remaining ability to tab for the virtual machine, it shows the data store. It is one of the many
  • Start the virtual machine and wait for WF, does not connect to the computer virtual for Vds (Windows 2008 R2)
    Hello
    See a strange problem with only a Windows 2008 R2 model. When you use the built-in function "Start VM and wait" workflow to start a virtual machine (after conversion from a template either manually, or through workflow) NIC of the virtual machine (I tried VMXNET3 and e1000 times) does not connect to the problem. Vds can be replicated in a different VCenter, so spreading the vds. I also created several models of Windows 2008 r2 and all have this problem.
    If the model is converted and started outside VRO, it gets an IP from and is connected to the VDS immediately
    Tried add/remove the NIC of the model
    Tried to move the comments on different hosts
    Tried to create a new template from scratch
    NOTE: Windows 2012 R2 doesn't have this problem in the same circles, the only constant is the Windows 2008 R2 being started by VRO.
    Anyone seen this before?
    I found this article and it fixed my problem VMware KB: registration or the deployment of a virtual computer model fails apparently a fix a problem in ESX 5.1, 5.5 (I used the option to get around and things are good)
