iSCSI with stacked switches

Hi guys,.

I have a client who is looking to implement a new iscsi solution.

We are looking for in the design of the network iscsi at the moment and my preference would be to have two switch dedicated for iscsi traffic.

The customer, however, is eager to use 2 switches configured as a battery and use a vlan.

So my question is, connecting the iscsi network to stacked switches would cause problems in terms of failover etc.?

Thank you

DC

NO it shouldn't cause any problems-

I want to connect 2 ESX 4.1 with 4 storage iSCSI NETWORK card and want to use 4 network cards and spend 2. I tried several configurations, but I don't see that 2 way. I see 4 way only if I connect on a single switch. How can I do?

ESX IP (iSCSI) iSCSI host IP 192.168.11.90 192.168.11.101,102,103,104
    fix the image.

    Thank you too much.

You must create a 4 vmkernels, each with its own IP address.

Each core linking to a single physical NIC.

Run a command in the console service to each of the vmkernels link to the initiator iscsi (see PDF below). This is only possible via CLI.

New analysis of your storage space.

Go to each volume and value "round robin" multiple paths.

To be really an easy way to do this via the GUI. That's pretty pathetic IMO it does not already exist.

That you configured is a single path (only one source IP) with the possibility to have 3 NICs fails.

What you will get with your current configuration is an increased bandwidth. Never will flow of traffic from a single IP address on the storage device. 3 of your network cards won't do anything unless sit and wait to die or be disconnected Active NETWORK card.

    Download the PDF here:

    http://www.EqualLogic.com/ResourceCenter/assetview.aspx?ID=8453

In what concerns a Dell Equallogic, but the ESX part won't be different depending on your type of iSCSI storage.

The PDF file gives clear instructions on how to do it. ESXi will probably have different commands and must be made through the line of remote control commands.

I just did this there are 3 mights. No reboot is required, and it did not have any currently active storage offline.

    Hope that helps.

  • Possible to stack switches 4 7048 2 on each floor

How would you stack a total of 4 7048 switches with 2 switches on each floor?  Two groups of 2 switches are located 1 floor independently of the other.  What additional modules and cables are needed?

    Thank you.

    Hello

You would daisy chain between stackable modules on all four switches. Cumulation between the floors is probably not going to work properly, as the distance of cable max is 3 m. http://www.Dell.com/downloads/global/products/PWCNT/en/PowerConnect-7000-stacking-white-paper.PDF page 2

  • Problem with GS716T Switch

This morning we plugged a phone Avaya IP (5621SW) to our network. It synchronized to the top, as it was supposed to, but we started to receive calls on PC hide. After some research, it seems that all PCs connected to a GS716T switch indicates no network connection when the phone is connected. Unplug the phone and turning the power on/off switch everything returns to normal. No other Netgear switch have been affected. We have replaced the GS716T with another switch (not a GS716T) and connect the IP phone has no effect. Wondering what it might be on the GS716T which makes it sensitive to the IP phone? Any thoughts?

    Hello Kelley,

Well, this isn't the configuration that I expected. The model number of the phone was 5621SW, so I thought that the connection is PC > phone > switch. I tried searching a few cases reported on the GS716T and did not find anything related. This problem is, I should say a little weird, since they do not use the same switch. But let's start the update of the firmware.

We will wait for your update.

  • Can I configure NISE with a switch of party - if the switch is not installed?

I've never used NOR Switch before Executive - we hope to use it on a new project.

We do not have equipment at the moment - we will use a Pickering 40-540-021 '132 x 4' switch.

I would like to configure NI Switch Executive before Pickering delivered cards, is it possible? I get an error when I create the NI Switch Executive virtual device. Seems that MAX is trying to communicate with the switch card before allowing me to configure routes/exclusions/groups etc..

Here's what I've done so far:

    -Install the drivers of Pickering.

-To the MAX (v5) I have setup a session driver IVI and logical name.

When I try to create a new NI Switch Executive peripheral virtual, I add the logical name of the switch, click [next] and get the NISE error...

"An error occurred so they were trying to access the devices PROJECTSWITCH. The primary error: unknown status code (Hex 0xBFFA400C).

I see that a virtual device is created with no logical switch assigned. I get the error even if I try and add a logical switch manually to the virtual device NISE.

Is it because the switch Board is not available for the system? Can I configure the routing/groups/exclusions without the device being mounted physically switch?

    Thank you

    Alan

    Alan.

Seems that MAX is trying to communicate with the switch card before allowing me to configure routes/exclusions/groups etc..

This should be the expected behavior. NEITHER Switch Executive tries to communicate with the instrument before allowing you to configure routes to ensure that there is no problem that would affect the operation of the Switch Executive. In your case the pilot trying to communicate with a non-existent device.

I would like to configure NI Switch Executive before Pickering delivered cards, is it possible? Can I configure the routing/groups/exclusions without the device being mounted physically switch?

It is possible that all compatible IVI devices should have the ability to simulate.

It seems that you have configured your session of IVI driver incorrectly for a simulated device. I try and make sure that in the session driver, under the 'Général' tab, select the drop down menu to "Simulate with" and select 'Specific driver' and then click 'Save the IVI Configuration'. This will return the Pickering driver selected in the 'software' tab and simulate a device. This should allow you to create a virtual device NI Switch Executive and develop and test the code on the simulated instruments.

I would like to know if you have any other questions.

  • Brightness problem with aspire switch 10

    Hi all

I have a gene with a switch screen aspire 10.
The brightness level is constantly changing. It is not dependend on the ambient light, because I turned off Adaptive brightness. (When I put a flashlight on the light sensor that does nothing).

For example: sometimes when I switch between the metro and the desktop mode. Notable stage screens turns a bit more or less clear. It also happens when you watch movies, opening programs, almost always when the image changes.

Does anyone know a solution to this?

    Kind regards.

To resolve this problem, I did this.

On the desktop, right-click. Properties of the graph. Power. I turned off the screen of the energy saving technology.

I hope this works for you also.

  • How is it that a computer which works very well with a direct Ethernet connection won't work with a switch, however any other computer using the same port, cable, ect, and so on, can?

    Switch issues. Help, please.

How is it that a computer which works very well with a direct Ethernet connection won't work with a switch, however any other computer using the same port, cable, ect, and so on, can? We already checked the firewall as a question, that it was not, and now, we are puzzled.

Well, I know that the issue is long-term... believe me, it's a long, but as they say, the devil is in the details. Anywho, the question is, my grandfather has a HP laptop, which for two years has been able to run through a Linksys switch to his router and connect its printers to his laptop. About two months ago it suddenly doesn't work like that. Now, it works fine if it plugs directly into the router/Ethernet. My uncle suggested that the switch was bad, but after testing the same port, cable and all, the switch worked well for him. ' GRAMPS really needs this answered, but someone else, it is called can not understand and now I, in turn, ask you all for what you can offer. Here are the ideas that we have already discredited.

-Switch bad: as above, is that this particular laptop, even under identical conditions, the works of my uncle very well.
-Bad NIC: debunked through the fact we connected to the computer directly to the router and it worked fine.
-Bad configuration of the firewall: we have disabled the firewall (please do not notice, he wasn't the smartest idea, we already know) and even if she recorded the switch exists, the internet is always triggered when you are connected with the switch.

Thanks in advance for any assistance that you can provide and Merry Christmas to you all.

It would be useful to consult the results of the ipconfig/all command both when it is connected to the switch and when it is connected directly to the router.  In addition, what is the model of the switch?

To save the manual copy and the new hits of the ipconfig/all command output-

    First connect through switch.
Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK)
Type the following lines in the black command prompt window and press ENTER after each line

echo "Connected via the button" > "% UserProfile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt".
    ipconfig/all > "% UserProfile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt".

Now connect directly to the router, type the following lines in the command prompt window and press ENTER after each line

echo "Connected to the router" > "% UserProfile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt".
    ipconfig/all > "% UserProfile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt".
    Notepad '% UserProfile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt '.
    output

Copy the contents of the Notepad window in your response (if you use the laptop when it is connected directly to the router) or close the Notepad window, and then copy ipinfo.txt of the laptop to the Gramps in a USB FlashDrive you can connect to any computer allows you to answer.

You can delete ipinfo.txt on the desktop when you are finished.

  • ISE 1.1.2 change of authorization with Avaya switches (5520)

    Hello

I'm ise configuration to make the assessment of posture. I saw avaya my LAN and Core switches. The idea is once the user is authenticated using 802. 1 x, then it will be moved to qurantine vlan and after that it complies with the policy of the company then it will be moved to the vlan real. I have configured the switch avaya to accept the assigned vlan and also configured RADIUS authentication dynamic 802. 1 x. Currently, RADIUS assigned qurantine vlan works but once the nac scan agent and mark the status of compatible PC then the CoA is not the case, and user is not moved to the vlan real.

I tested the same authorization of the ise policy to assign dynamically VLANS on switches cisco and it worked perfectly, but the same thing is not happening on avaya switch.

    Any idea on this?

    Kind regards

    Akhtar

    Akhtar,

Posture with ISE flows have only been tested with Cisco switches:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/security/ISE/1.1.1/compatibility/ise_sdt.html

The RFC says that port 3799 is for CoA, but due to a conflict, we use port 1700 so that my have something to do with it. That said we don't pretend to support 3rd party switches currently.  If you do not want to see this please contact your Cisco account team to check the status of the part 3 switch support or request the feature.

    any help would be appreciated

    Clayton

Another way to remove the general lines switchport is to use the option "Delete" on all VLANs currently associated.  Just like what has been done for the vlan 1 in your example. Something like this:

switchport vlan allowed General remove 153, 154

Make sure you have the mode set correctly.  By default, the access mode is set.  If the default value of access is being used, the lines "switchport general" are ignored anyway.

    Hope this has been helpful.

  • Power battery X 3750 with 5 switches

Hi, I know the documentation that it is only possible to connect a maximum of four switches in a power battery configuration. I need to have five switches in a stack of data, it is possible to configure three power switches of a battery and the other two switches in one separate power battery or I have to have four switches with the power of the battery and the fifth stand alone? Hope it makes sense.

    Thank you

    Graham

With the help of two piles of food is a way to go in this scenario. Your five switches can still generate a data stack. This scenario is also shown in the Q & A.

Otherwise, you could use a XPS to provide backup power for all five switches.

  • iSCSI with MPIO

I need configure the virtual switch in VMware for an iSCSI Array does not support LACP or aggregation of any kind.

There are 4 ports on the table that can be used.

    • How many cables should I use for my 7K table?
    • Should I use MPIO for LACP is not an option?
    • How many IP addresses to configure on my table for iSCSI?

I never used LACP for iSCSI connectivity, I don't know yet if this is supported by VMware! Anyway, basically you will configure an IP address for each target port and an IP address to each initiator VMkernel on one or more ESXi hosts. You may need to double-check with the documentation of the unit of the range, if for example a VIP (virtual IP) for the target to be used, and the question of whether IP addresses should be in the same or in different subnets. If storage systems supports the path of Round-Robin policy, then make sure that set you this for the LUN to the advantage of the bandwidth available.

  • RS 5 with netapp SRA, FCOE site iSCSI with RDM

Hi team, could someone please help to veify if it works in this scenario.

We have PROD site running vmware vcenter 5.0, esxi5.0, SRM 5.0, Netapp 3210 ONTAP8.1 version file server. The VMs are windows Server2008, MS SQL2008 as major DB. Virtual RDM database files. Only FCOE for this site. AD is a physical Server 2003. The rest are virtual machines

We offer you to have SRM for DR site deployment. The DR site is synchronized with netapp SRA snapmirrror, controlled by the console SRM5.0. Recovery site has no FCOE, only iSCSI and NFS license availble. Always RDM but using iScsi. vCenter 5.0, 5.0, netapp ONTAP8.1 2040 esxi.

    My questions are:

    1. If VMware SRM support DR failover for this case with the different protocol, PROD is FCoE, iscsi DR

    2. If the SRM supports failover with RDM in our case

    3. If the AD DR Server site need to be installed as a new best practices, or we will have to use SRM to switch production announced on website of Dr. What is recommended.

    4. If the physical AD can be kept as the common way and always taken SRM supported

    5. to the recovery site, which is the best practice? To use NFS to store data and iSCSI for iscsi? Or store data and RDM using iSCSI LUNS to simplify?

    Thank you!

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. I would recommend if possible having a domain controller AD, already running on the DR site - it may be a virtual machine
    4. Yes, the PROD site domain controller can be physical
    5. I'd keep all compatible iSCSI so so -.
  • Connect with independent switches vSwitch

    Hi all

I am a newbie in VMWare and really not had in networking. Need your suggestion kindly for our VM infrastructure plan.

Here's what I have (or will have):

I create a small cluser (2 ESX, each with 6 NIC host). There are 2 stacked Cisco 3750 and stacked 2 4524GT Nortel on our farm in GE switch. Up to now, we have 6 virtual machines, but we intend to put all the servers the VM infrastructure.

    That was my previous plan:

I did some research in the documents of VMWare and BBS.  I plan to ESX hosts connected to Cisco units, their link to GE in 2 units of the evening. Configure NETWORK adapters, port channels, load balancing, etc...

An incident has changed my mind. A month before our network, group support updated nortel switches firmware. It's a nightmare. The Nortels 2 were dead after the upgrade. Had to pass all connections to the server of Nortel to Cisco and roll after that the call of Nortel has been set.

    My question:

So let's say that sometimes the stackable switches will be dead together. Yes, I can connect an ESX with Cisco and another with Nortel. When stacked Cisco or Nortel is dead, we have yet another host working with switches lived. But I can connect an ESX with Cisco and Nortel? It seems more stable, isn't she?

For example, I intend to use the 4 NICs for production and other for SC and VMkernel network interface cards. The production of 4 network cards are rising in a vSwtich. Failover and load balancing works when I connect nic0 / nic1 with Cisco and nic2 / nic3 with Nortel?

    My recommendation:

Configure NETWORK adapters, port channels, load balancing, etc...

Forget it. No team, no port channel. Just configure the uplink as junction ports ports and set the VLAN on the virtual port groups. VMware ESX (i) (with standard vSwitches) performs Round Robin load balancing based on the original default virtual port code, which is sufficient in most cases. With dvSwitches, you also have an option to configure NIC database load. In both cases you can use ports on all physical switches without having to think about making active configurations / standby at all.

On the beat of the heart. Usually, I connect the Service Console to a vSwitch with 2 physical uplinks, each on a different network card and everyone to another physical having redundancy switch. What I actually do is to put the Service Console and VMotion that vSwitch and configure groups of ports for active / standby to ensure that each of them uses a dedicated NETWORK adapter unless there is a network outage.

You must also consider switching to (installable) ESXi as ESX will be greater in the future. If you do not need to install agents on hosts etc, the only change will be that you will not have a "Service Console" more. For communication and management, you will have a «VMKernel network management» instad
