Issue with XPS 630i nvstor SSD

After all these years, I still really like the XPS630i.  I was really surprised when I looked for the Q9550 vs i7 comparison.  In any case, I didn't speed up my system a bit so I added a disc SSD OCZ Vertex 3, increased to 8 GB RAM and re-installed Win7 on the SSD.

Connected to the SATA ports:

  • 0 = SSD OCZ Vertex 3
  • 1 = DVD
  • 2 = 250 GB disk
  • 3 = 250 GB disk

Setting the BIOS/RAID:

  • 0 = DISABLED
  • 1 = DISABLED
  • 2 = ENABLED
  • 3 = ENABLED

Everything works quite fine, except that I have periodic freezes (not blocks) where virtually the entire system freezes for ~ 30 to 120 seconds (the mouse cursor usually always moves, but nothing else responds).  I could check in EVENT VIEWER/SYSTEM logs an error that always matches the period of the freeze.

\Device\RaidPort0, restore the device, has been published.

Source: nvstor

Event ID: 129

Device Manager looks like this.  Note that I've seen a few articles saying I should change the DRIVER for the SSD drive for a 'generic' which is IDE instead of SCSI, but I have so far not been able to find a way to do this.  At this point, I think my only option is to install a 3rd SATA controller left to connect the SSD drive in, but that seems stupid to me and I do not think that I have everything open PCI slots I have a map of sounds and the TV Tuner card is already installed.

Help, please!  I'm pretty tech savvy and ready to try anything.

As I suggested above, please enable RAID for four ports.

  • CrossfireX, ATI Radeon HD 3870 + XPS 630i Windows 7

    Hello

I have a Dell XPS 630i with (2) ATI Radeon 3870 HDs in CrossfireX configuration (by default when bought). It originally shipped with Vista 32 bit and worked very well under all future versions of updated drivers and catalyst and catalyst.

I recently installed Windows 7 64 bit on a separate partition, and that's where the trouble starts. Windows 7 recognizes both of my cards under Device Manager, however during the installation of the latest catalyst suite and drivers (9.1); It does not recognize that there is a CrossfireX configuration and therefore won't give me CrossfireX option in the menu drop-down graphics (in advanced view). Under information, it shows that one of my cards is the main Board (which is my monitor is attached to) and the other (secondary) is set to disabled.

I read a little about these cards, as well as the ATI that Dell uses a tweak of specific motherboard (and thus a specific driver) cards to make these cards work in crossfire on a so-called nVidia motherboard, as I understand it. However, I have no idea about the validity of this claim.

My question is: what exactly should I do to activate my card secondary catalyst so that the CrossfireX option will appear in the drop-down list in the view advanced in Windows 7 64 bit?

I am ready to provide any other information if it will help find a solution to this problem.

Thanks in advance for any information submitted.

I solved this problem yesterday. You need to download the original video drivers on the site of Dell XPS 630i section and install them. This measure of Crossfire on the cards, you can then uninstall the old drivers and use a program like Driver Sweeper to remove all the remains of drivers. Then install the latest version of the suite Catalyst and after restarting it should recognize your Crossfire configuration.

    Kind regards.

  • XPS 630i rehabilitation project - what can be done to modernize an old computer

7 years on a single computer without difficulty is pretty cool, but its slow significantly, can't do recent games, video stream teams all the time, move files and using video editing software is almost eternal.

The system is XPS 630i, CPU = QX6850, 3 GHz, 8 MB, CDKE, G0. RAM is 4 GB. video card is two cards of the crossfire Radeon 3800 series.  Vista Home premium 32-bit. storage is disk 920 GB internal and external two drives of 1 TB Buffalo (1 is the backup of the system)

    (1) is there a CPU upgrade option?

    (2) update of what graphics card?

    (3) should move from Vista to another help system?

    (4) is there an option to upgrade to RAM?

I can still a few years out of this system, with say, $500?

    Thanks for the tips

Thank you Philip for your thoughts.

My 630i has 4 GB of RAM installed.  Dell said it's the max.  Evolution of operating systems that would change?

Change to a 64 bit OS you will allow more than 4 GB of RAM and Crucial says that the maximum is 8 GB address:

    http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/Dell-memory/XPS/XPS+630i-upgrades.html

However DDR2 RAM has increased a lot in price recently and the $142 - $208 maybe not worth it. That money would be better spent on the Solid State Drive.

  • Huawei P9 - I have many issues with getting my pictures from the phone to my Imac

Huawei P9 - I have many issues with getting my pictures from the phone to iphoto on my Mac.

Before the summer I bought a Huawei P9 phone, I can easily see the photos on the phone - I can't just them on my mac.  When I connect via a USB cable, it refuses my permissions.

I try to use my Google account to view on the Mac and move the iPhoto - I can't work either! I can see them, I can't move them!

I'm pulling my hair out and I have enough to do with! Help, please...

    Jim Hosking

You need the phone provider support - there is a problem with the way their phone works and how to use it and has nothing to do with the Photos or iPhoto - if pictures is consistent with standards of good Photos and iPhoto won't work with it

You may need special third party software for your phone load in Photos or iPhoto

  • iPod Touch 5 Gen - iOS 9.3.1 lightning connector issues - with accessories

Has anyone seen a problem using iOS 9.3.1 on an iPod Touch 5th generation with lightning connector devices?  Specifically, I use the iPod in a cradle of scanner which connects via the connector of the lightning, until iOS 9.3.1 the cradle was visible to the application, but once it has been updated the scanner loses communication to the iOS device and application.  IPod charge and connect to iTunes, no problem, but refuses to see the cradle, I have another iPod on an older version of iOS, which connects to the cradle even without problem.

To try to find, I've updated the iOS to 9.3.2 beta fault from the site of the developer, this problem has now fixed the issue with the cradle.  I can't that assume Apple broke the connection in iOS 9.3.1?

Sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility with accessories. Since then, he has worked with next beta which seems to be the cause.

All yo can do is to continue using the beta until the version is rejected in the pubis.

Have reported the problem to Apple to ensure that the beta version is not yet revised to cause the same problem?

  • HP Pavilion Gaming 15 - ak155nm: problem with detection m.2 SSD

    Hello

I built a computer with M.2 Intel SSD 256 GB 600p and for some reason it does not detect the SSD m2. I have HP Pavilion 15 - ak155nm portable Gaming. Please help.

    Thank you

    Toni

    Yes.

The Samsung 850 Pro is compatible with the motherboard of your laptop and the BIOS.

A 256 GB SSD would be a better choice if you can afford it. You can install the operating system of the laptop to it.

The ability of a DSS must be 160 GB or more to allow using the recovery USB key that you need to have created now.

  • issue with tables and clusters

    Hello

Another issue with the tables and clusters. I have three engines thatI move on XYZ and then measure something. I need to draw on the 3D, the result of the measurement. How to draw real XYZ and not the index of the data table positions? (I can't actully how to build the matrices 2D forX, Y and Z). In the figures, I give an example of what I need.

    Concerning

You have to break the data out of the cluster and to present them to the graph 3d to a separate bays for X, Y, Z and W where 'W' is your values measured at the locations described by X, Y, Z.

This thread shows how trace readings in space 3. The following image shows the data that the original author wanted to draw.

  • XPS 2720 - replace SSD of 32 GB to 500 GB SSD to use as a boot drive

I bought a new mSATA 500 GB SSD with the intention of replacing the current 32 GB SSD, but instead of using it for caching as is currently the case, I wish it were my boot drive. I got from crucial and they provided a license for acronis help to mgirating my data.

But when I tried to replace it, and I changed RAID AHCI in the BIOS, the system could not start (inaccessible Boot device). Even with the 32 GB SSD, it will not start if the AHCI value. It only works when the RAID option. I would have thought that my 1 TB HARD drive was the boot drive and so this should allow the system start just by allowing me to access the SSD within Windows where I could transfer a disk image and put the SSD as a boot device.

Y at - it a guide step by step that will allow me to do so without having to start over from a clean install. I'm running Windows 10 and prefer not to start Windows 8 and upgrade again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Fergoc,

There is a simple solution to change AHCI RAID, as described here. Let me know if that helps!

  • XPS 8500 drives (SSD and HDD)

I have a XPS8500 that I bought new Dell a little over a year. It came with a 256 GB SSD and a 1 TB HARD drive. When I got it, I noticed the SSD was drive C: and drive D: drive.

I called Technical Support at the time and asked if the SSD is to fill quickly, given that the Documents and the music are mapped to C:. The person tech says, no, the software Intel would automatically move files little used on the D: drive and keep frequently used on the C: drive.

Well, I finally filled the SSD and nothing moves to D: was advice I got from Dell Support is incorrect, or there at - it a way to make this work? If this isn't the case, I remap manually the folder music on the HARD drive.

    Hi Steve8500,

You must move your document on the drive d. records here is a link to help. Don't know you say Windows does this automatically, but it doesn't.

With a 256 GB SSD, you should have enough space for the operating system and applications.
