  Hello! I got a Dell Inspiron MXC061 Windows Vista Home Premium laptop and recently, I figured out that the micro does not work... If I plug headphones the headphone is ok, but the MIC does not work... I already tried to use the headset in the other pc and it works well, so is not the break-in cover that has a problem... and I tried to check and adjust the microphone on the check of its menu - recording - microphone/line (Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC)--> is the only player that is on the menu for registration and it says work...   In Realtek audio Manager, click the Microphone tab, next to the volume slider, you will find a button to disable the output.

  The sound is probably your comments because of the gain being turned upward to your audio recording device by default.  Try the same path I mentioned above and see if you can turn it off.
