jpg-> dng conversion - what is possible.

I use CS3 for post processing. I shoot in RAW, so I use a white balance feature in ACR. I have a set of jpg files, shot by a colleague who would benefit from RAW ACR slider versions, particularly the ability to explicitly define the Kelvin lighting value. This is why I would like to convert jpg files to DNG before performing any PP.

Anyone has any ideas, please? Thanks in advance if you can help.

So, I thought:

If I can convert the jpgs in DNG before PP'ing I would have more power and

control over the white balance corrections.

As well as that of the year? What is not is not there. A file that has bin converted into an 8-bit image and uses a compression with chroma undersampoling find themselves not magically loyalty by inflating it at a higher resolution format. There is nothing you could do in ACR that you couldn't reach with conventional settings in this case...

  • BUG? "Convert to DNG" is not to skip current DNG but rather DNG conversion to DNG.

I selected 50 k images to convert to DNG, NEF format. After the conversion of the DNG format, I chose it to remove the NAVE. Between the NAVE in the archive are DNG that were previously converted by LR during the import. QUESTION: I see the DNG files in the trash (mac 10.9.3) sense LR isn't jump the current DNG files, but actually convert the DNG format a new DNG then trash the original DNG. This must be a bug.

https://DL.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37390809/DNG-to-DNG.mov [35MB] (action - select DNG, "convert to DNG", DNG is made and original thrown in the garbage)

OK - it makes sense that LR converting a DNG for a new DNG if it is

    (1) go lossless lossy

    (2) if the embedded JPG preview changes (xmp changes require the update of JPG JPG or incorporate the size has changed)

Hope that Adobe considers drugues the spec or conversion when "convert RAW files" is selected using the specification to check the flags that notes what state is the current DNG and compare with the given command so that DNG-> DNG would SKIP over files that are already at the exit of the target.

My current solution is to filter all simply my library for 'file type' = Raw and then apply the DNG conversion for this file type to jump all DNG files in my archive of shooting 200 000.

  • Lightroom CC crashes when importing DNG conversion

All a few times LR crashes my whole computer after importation and I think that during the conversion to DNG. It is not every time, so I don't know what is happening. I copy as DNG on import from my SD card, I turned off to generate intelligent insights to import as well. Usually occurs with a couple hundred pictures or more.

It seems to import fine and get about 1/3 through conversion and blocking when it does. There are two status bars at the top left. One is the DNG conversion, and I'm not sure what the other is.

I have a Nvidia of 870 with 4 GB of RAM on it, but I wonder if it is a problem of GPU acceleration. That's the thing I think I could turn and see if it happens again.

So I think I knew what was causing it. (or one of two things, I guess I should test again one and then the other) I have a program called Infinit which is a file sharing application (a bit like dropbox, but without the storage... in fact I don't know where it stores the files, perhaps locally?). In any case, it runs in the Windows status bar in the background. When I leave, I did have a problem with the conversion of the DNG format since then. Questions of random weird program... The other option would be the application of Windows Home Server Launchpad which again, goes in the bin. I just don't not connect you with it, so it was still on that technically I guess so my money is on Infinit unless otherwise stated.

I would like to point out something that you may not realize: Windows 8
has two interfaces; the modern/Metro Interface (which may be all the)
you have looked at) and the traditional desktop Interface. You can use
one or both. This traditional desktop Interface is almost
identical to the interface of Windows 7. the biggest difference is that
There is no Orb start clicking to bring up the start menu.

But note that you can get the ORB start by using one of the many
third-party programs, are free or very cheap (the classic interface
    http://classicshell.sourceforge.NET/ and debut8 to
    http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/; my personal preference is
Debut8, but they are both very good).  And goes from an interface to
the other is very easy; There are several ways, but simply by pressing
the Windows key is perhaps the easiest.

Just install one of these two and using the traditional desktop computer
interface may be a better choice for you than going to Windows 7.
I use Windows 8, almost exclusively with traditional workstations
the interface and with 8 Start installed. If you were to look at and use
my computer, you may have a hard time realizing that it is not
    Windows 7.
I also recommend to read "how to make Windows 8 or 8.1 watch and.
    Want Windows 7 "to http://www.howtogeek.com/elk/298/45121/4206
I can't address the issue with your games, except to say that
whenever you move to a new version of the operating system, some of
which is used to run on the former does not work on the new. And it's
much more likely with utilities and games with companies
    applications.

  • Photoshop CS6 will not open the file image (.jpg, .dng and .cr2)

    Hello

I recently reinstalled my laptop (64-bit) Windows 7 Pro. It has all the necessary Windows updates.

I installed Photoshop CS6 (64 and 32-bit) and I've installed all the updates it needs.

It will not open any JPG or RAW, .tif, .jpg, .dng and .cr2 files. Before you reinstall Windows Photoshop worked well.

When I try to open an image file that Photoshop does not open, so the file type is associated with Photoshop, but that's all. The software is running, but it won't open the jpg or tif, and it does not open Camera Raw to display the RAW file.

If I double-click on a new image, then a new instance of Photoshop is open, in addition to the already open instance, but still no picture.

If I click file-open and navigate to the file it will then open in Photoshop and Camera Raw 9.1.1 and the picture shows successfully.

    Strange!

The only thing I think currently, is that I have 2 partitions on the laptop, with C: and a D: readers, with the users folder, which is held on D. Photoshop is confused by there? Well it is exactly how the laptop has always been in place, and it was already defined in this way before Photoshop has been installed.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall. I tried to install just Photoshop 64 Bit, not 32 bit (I don't really know why I get the two offered, to be honest.)

I am now lost and would like to receive helpful suggestions!

    I "solved" this problem!

It seems that Photoshop won't open these files from a Windows 7 'Library' that points to a redirected folder.

However, if I create a mapped drive with a drive letter local, the actual path of the files, (for example \\Server\FolderRedirections\Michael\Pictures), then it works OK.

It is a good work-round and it makes no difference to me if I use a mapped drive or library I put just one correct, in the section 'Favorites' from Windows Explorer.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, that helped me a lot. I hope this answer helps someone else, even if my situation may not be a common scenario.

  • Is there a way to disable the DNG conversion in LR6

I am disappointed at best with the upgrade of 5 LR LR 6

You can change the import DNG option to copy or move in the top bar of the import window

  • Lightroom 5.7.1 LF1 Panasonic RW2 file to DNG conversion

I use ACR 8.7.1. LR opens RW2 LX7 files very well, but insists on LF1 to DNG raw files conversion. Adobe reports that gross LF1 is supported, but no joy. What I am doing wrong?

Lightroom is not force the conversion to DNG. In the import dialog box, at the top, is "Copy as DNG" highlighted? If this is the case, simply change it to the copy. Lightroom can only convert the files to DNG for raw formats it supports. If Lightroom cannot force the conversion to DNG of this camera.

  • Converted library to DNG now what about the other files?

Just, I crossed the step and converted all my images CR2 to DNG, replacing the originals.

However, I have always all sidecar JPEG files left over. Can I safely delete these, or are they held by the DNG?

Also, I was using before the option to write the XMP sidecar files. With DNG is there any real need to continue to do this?

    Thank you

Thanks for your reply. I guess what I'm wondering really is: if I now go ahead and delete these files, .xmp and .jpg, will I have problems in Lightroom? In other words, Lightroom will take care, if these files are missing?

Lightroom won't care. If you made adjustments to the RAW outside LR, those who are saved in the file .xmp. You should have read the metadata of the file in order to bring them into the LR catalog. But now that the orginal FIRST disappeared, I don't think that it works now in any case (it's worth a shot if you must, however). Now, if you did all your editing in LR than to go ahead and delete the JPEG and xmp files.

As for your other question, you can always write metadata to the file, but with DNG, metadata are embedded in the dng itself and not a separate xmp file. You never had to write metadata in the file, though.  This info has been and is in the catalog/preview files. In doing so, just allows you to make this info in other applications.

  • Licensing problem possible, what is possible?

I have an older computer runnung winxp that I want to run windows 7 or 8 on for a year or two.

After this period, I want to build another computer, install the Windows 7 or 8 on it, that I have installed on the old computer, and then return the old computer to XP.

    Is this possible?

I'm sure that the OEM versions are only for one computer and once it is used on a certain generation, it cannot be transferred to another computer. What should I do/buy?

OK on the win7. Apparently, I know because I read about it, but I mostly read about win8. So far, I can't find a retail version of win8 to sell. I can't find are OEM versions. I have included win7 really to cover the basics on the issue. In case there is some licensing issues, I was not aware of.

So, I tried to figure out if it's really feasible. You say that the commercial version of 7 is very good for that, thank you. What about win8 so? Is a commercial version of it available?

    answers to the rest:

    Yes.

Not yet, but I am aware that I must examine the question more far.

  • Format not opening not DNG conversions

I dusted off an old Toshiba laptop that has a copy of Photoshop CS4 and the newest software Conversion to DNG (v8.8). Made a record of RAW files (Olympus ORF), diverted, open to ACR and saved the files that are currently .dng files in Bridge the DNG... but CS4 doesn't open, says it does not support this file type. How Adobe Photoshop cannot open an Adobe type file? I thought DNG made backwards compatible all the RAW in Photoshop files dating back to the night time. Any ideas, suggestions, solutions?

Well, you man. Or the woman because "R" could be Robert or Roberta, but in both cases, you have solved my problem that has been hanging around for a few years. ACR plugin has been installed in the correct folder PS4. Moved, corrected a problem, all right, and I thank very you much.

  • DNG Conversion fails

I have the latest version of the DNG Converter installed on my Win7 x 64 system.

When I try to convert TIF 16-bit created by my scanner I get the notorious "year error parsing the file" and none of the files are converted.

The converter DNG not support the TIF files?

    DNG_Converter-Settings-1.jpg

The DNG Converter is designed to convert raw files from cameras supported. As far as I know, he will not tiff files convert to DNG. It was not the intention of the developers. The DNG Converter will convert older DNG files to the new compressed format that was introduced recently. But that's the extent of what can be converted.

The DNG Converter is intended to put the raw image data in a common container file. A tiff image contains no raw image data.

Have you installed the plugin 6.1 manually or by using the patcher/Installer?
