  My hp zd7269cl laptop comes with Windows Media Center Edition version 2002. Now these discs are long gone but I bought oem recovery disks but he said media center 2005.   How did you restore the computer (method)?  This is a system like Dell, HP, Lenovo, gateway, etc. ?

  If it's a system like that--and it came pre-installed with any operating system you restored to you and used their method to restore the system to factory settings - your support comes from them, not Microsoft.

  The product key for the operating system, if any, should be (in the case of the situation I described) on a sticker on the computer itself.  It would look like the flashing of modes of action here )<-- that="" is="" a="" link,="" click="" on="">

  However, without knowing more (like the specific operating system, how you restored it, why you restored, etc)-probably not able to help much more than that.

  However, I can tell you (after reading: "I have years of data on the computer") you don't probably more - not if you ended up doing a destructive restore of the computer operating system.  Likely * everything * went that you took the trouble to backup to external media before "find you" your computer.  Backups - always King.

  I have pretty well with MS. I contacted CS online yesterday and they tell me to download and install the Windows 7 Home Premium Edition online and use the product key on the bottom of my computer to activate it. (I lost my backup disk "Pre-installed" due to a stupid error).

  Tried to activate the product key and it was coming by saying it was not valid. Client called service to activate by phone and got a rep "outsourced" on the line. Basically, I was told it was preinstalled, I had to use the PC manufacturer program and could not use the online version, because he was considered a "retail" version I'm a GROUND, or I have to pay Microsoft or HP for another copy of the same program I already paid for when I bought the laptop.

  When it's time to update those computers, won't us go with another product Microsoft again if I can't be satisfied with the level of service I receive. Linux Mint is starting to look pretty good right about now. And I've always wanted to try out a mac.

  The installed key is the default key for the Home Premium edition.

  I don't see any real alternative to return to the manufacturer of the system. Even if it is simply a bug in the validation system, the original owner of the product key, it is the only one who knows what can happen to her. Not having is not a certificate of Authority (COA) on the back and no drive home with one, implies that the OEM you bought at some explainng to do. Ask for a certificate of authenticity for your machine.

  I lived all the help from microsoft and supported sites and forums (and several others) and there are questions similar but although I can work on them (all sources) what's going on I can't find an answer, and the only way I can get the support of Microsoft is to pay for it because of this problem , emailing them led it is suggessted I ask here so sorry if I am repeating something already asked but I really don't know what else to do.

  I bought Studio Expression a couple of years ago for my daughter (the memory blurred here but I am sure it's the version 1 but has been upgraded via download on 2 as a special microsoft encouragement - as they do now for 3-4).  It has been installed and works very well then the hard drive has not changed, re-installed and all worked fine again until a few weeks ago when problems of memory led to one perfect reformat and re-install. Studio expression re will not activate as it claims that my product key is not valid. I also can't support since it requires my product key and said "there is a problem" with him when I entered it.

  Expression Studio now seems running on the 60-day trial license, I need to find a way to overcome this problem without having to hand over my credit card data to microsoft for support.

  It is likely that you can use an another DVD of Win7.  In order to make it work, it must match your - home edition/pro. 32/64.  Just find someone who has the drive.

  The only potential problem is that you may need some driver source it install Win7 does not provide them.  Update Windows with other Microsoft products will sometimes bring them also.  Most of the time, the installation process itself provides that most everything you need.  If you need more, find your download page of the OEM Web site for your model.

  Is it possible to use the same key to make an installation on a Windows machine?  I ask, because when I ordered CS6 it asked if I wanted the Mac and Win versions (my copy of Lightroom 3 seems to be good for Mac and Win).  Otherwise, suggestions as to how I might solve this problem?

  Thanks for the kind reply. In fact before checking your response, I checked in my system there was the .msi from the Skype software installation file was missing. so I installed the same version installation file and then uninstalled the software.
  And I have installed the latest version of the Skype software.
