  How did you restore the computer (method)?  This is a system like Dell, HP, Lenovo, gateway, etc. ?

  If it's a system like that--and it came pre-installed with any operating system you restored to you and used their method to restore the system to factory settings - your support comes from them, not Microsoft.

  The product key for the operating system, if any, should be (in the case of the situation I described) on a sticker on the computer itself.  It would look like the flashing of modes of action here )<-- that="" is="" a="" link,="" click="" on="">

  However, without knowing more (like the specific operating system, how you restored it, why you restored, etc)-probably not able to help much more than that.

  However, I can tell you (after reading: "I have years of data on the computer") you don't probably more - not if you ended up doing a destructive restore of the computer operating system.  Likely * everything * went that you took the trouble to backup to external media before "find you" your computer.  Backups - always King.
