If you do not have a XP CD, you can download Ntbackup.msi to

However, XP's built-in backup program is a very bad choice, in my

  • Backups with Windows XP Home Edition

Backups I have XP Home Edition and after losing my hard drive and all my data etc. I'm trying to make a backup and find that there is no provision for this. Seems like Microsoft should have a program of free download for us newbies to make backups with. All thoughts of my best option?   Thank you.   Rene C

I really want to save system files and program files and all the data files created by the programs. Is this possible? I found just reload the programs I've had discs for was a real pain. If my new hard drive should fail I would avoid the hassle, the next time.   Rene C

XP Home Edition can not do what you ask the subject. Your best bet is to buy a third-party program to create an IMAGE of your hard drive. I recommend you store this file archive image on an external hard drive. I happen to love Acronis True Image Home, which is good in what you give the possibility to create additional images.

  • Add backup of XP Home edition.

I have XP Home edition pre-installed on my laptop, but no CD of Windows XP, how do I now add "backup" to my system tools. I have an extra hard drive to store all my data backup but no way to perform a backup.

I've included if how to make if you have a CD just for completeness:
The backup program is automatically installed on XP Professional, but not on XP Home. If you have the genuine bootable XP Home installation CD, insert it into your system and navigate to this folder:
    \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP
Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the installation.
Here is a nice article from Microsoft which tell you all this:

  • Satellite C850-BMK - need drivers for Windows XP Home edition

    Hey. I can't find a driver for bluetooth USB\VID_0930 & PID_021D on Windows XP.

In Windows 7, the device has a name generic Bluetooth adapter driver from Microsoft.

Your all new laptop is designed for Win7. Windows XP Home edition's story and Toshiba doesn't support it anymore. On the Toshiba support page, you can find software for BT on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/ but I put t think you will be able to use it due to lack of FN + F8 key features you need to turn on the BT module.

Why install the old WXP n brand new laptop designed for Win7?

    Hi JackieFerrs

It is possible that the virus has every firmware corrupted on that either its MBR (Master Boot Record). Unfortunately, the other means that your data is probably lost. But... before you'll start to panic please see below what you can do.

Please visit this link: 'Western Digital My Book Home Edition 1TB_downloads' and...

    1. use the backup utility to backup your data if you have not done.

2 use the software update on hard drive firmware update.

    3. use the software (all) link to download software for your Windows PC.

    4. download and install Drive Manager (if you wish).

    5. If still no luck on the connection that enables the link diagnostic tool to scan your drive for some questions.

    I hope this helps.

    All the best.

  • I have a Pavilion n1610n. I have loaded Windows XP Home Edition. I can't access the Internet.

It is an old computer. I replaced the HD and loaded a copy of XP Home Edition instead of the Media Center edition which originally came with the computer because I didn't want to not all garbage programs.

Count it wants to connect via the "1394 connection" instead of Ethernet, under 'network adapters '.

I tried to update the driver.

My problem was the lack of any service packs. I downloaded SP2 on a different computer and it burned on a CD. I installed SP2 from the CD on HP computer, and then install the chipset driver. Now I have the internet connection.

Thanks for the reply and the link to the driver.

  • Appmgmts.dll missing in Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 3)

My Task Manager runs a svchost (one of the many normal) who tries to pull the high appmgmts.dll (lacking). There is supposedly a hotfix, but when you click on the download link, Microsoft Support said that this fix is not available at this time. Should I worry about getting this dll, or just assume that Microsoft will address this in future updates if she will make XP Home Edition (SP3) better performance?

Sorry, I have XP pro and did not know he was not in XP home. Strange in this case you would have got the error message.

You can download the file from

It is not quite the last version (SP3 has v. 5.1.2600.5512, but this should not matter too much.

However I do not know if you have also other files related to it.

I looked in all 3 locations on my computer (so a file search in Windows Explorer) and the file is not there. My family Windows XP Edition installation disc has been "pre SP3", then would not contain the file... It is my understanding that XP Professional has this file, but not XP Home Edition (and may not need)... JRosenfeld, thank you very much for taking the time to answer!

  • Where can I find the full list of the features of Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional

    Hello Roman

Thanks for the clarification on the "new computer".

If, as you say, the card mother and any other material is compatible XP then by all means install Windows XP on this machine. As you said you "my idea is to get the XP and keep as long as possible, even after support ceased in 2014, because I like it better than any other operating system." You have been made aware of possible problems concerning the lack of support and you are ready to accept those. The only problem is to get a copy of Windows XP from a reliable source. Unfortunately, I can't help you with that. Personally, I prefer to get my software direct from the manufacturer or by a reliable retailer. As no other retailer has copies of Windows XP you are, unfortunately, has left the search for credible resource on the web.

My note to the subject of sticking with Windows 7 or 8 on your new computer has been in regards to your initial comment to a "new computer". I have two computers that are running Windows 7 and Windows 8, but then again maybe I need the additional machines and you do not have.

I have to admit that Windows XP is a great operating system, and to be honest, I also use it on a virtual machine on one of my PC. However it is more for support reasons than the generalization on my part.

Windows 7 get some getting used to, but I found it a usable operating system. Windows 8, however, is an altogether different beast. You love or hate it and judging by the comments on the Microsoft forums many people hate everything simply. Yet once I used it since the first beta of the operating system, so I'm used to it.

I agree with voluntary J on Windows XP Mode. This is useful if you have applications that are not compatible with Windows 7. However, as you said in your reply to J to volunteer, you must upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. You can run Windows XP on a virtual machine, with, say, Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (as a free option); However, you should always buy a copy of XP and new Virtual Machines have some restrictions, especially when it comes to certain types of hardware connected to your PC. Maybe your best bet, if you prefer to upgrade would be to use Windows XP from Windows 7 mode.

I hope that you succeed in your quest for a reliable copy of Windows XP
