When I turned off my computer, I get an error message with "End program - SQL Server Service Manager" in the title of the window. Winner! My computer will not install the update for SQL server service pack 3 (970892), why? Whenever I try to install the update I get the message not was restored. If the error occurred during the upgrade of the 'master' database, it will prevent the entirety of a SQL Server instance to start. Review the previous entries in the error log, take appropriate corrective action and restart the database so that the script upgrade steps run until the end.

The SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe installation file was downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7593 . Express Edition has been selected during the installation. All prior checks have been adopted (with the exception of 1 and 2 does not apply). I chose this version with management tools that I will need them for a quick change at a later stage.
Control Panel - Services : there is no service of any kind that has SQL Server on its behalf. This is very probably a major problem, a google for that advice that there should be more of them

I create a new connection to SQL Server, specify the host and port number listens to SQL Browser (my servers have dynamic, non-static ports), and I can connect successfully to the local Instance of SQL Server on this computer, which is SQL Server 2000. However, I also have a SQL Server 2005 and 2008 running on this computer as well and want to connect to them.
The SQL Server tab is not ask a name instance at all, so I do not know how to do this. I guess I could do my static ports for each instance, but the point of using SQL Browser is that you need not do so. SQL Browser behaves almost like a DNS server for all to come to this machine sql queries.
Is there a way to specify the name of the instance you want to connect to instead of a port #? Maybe you are looking for
