Connect to a specific instance of SQL Server?

Hi all
I create a new connection to SQL Server, specify the host and port number listens to SQL Browser (my servers have dynamic, non-static ports), and I can connect successfully to the local Instance of SQL Server on this computer, which is SQL Server 2000. However, I also have a SQL Server 2005 and 2008 running on this computer as well and want to connect to them.

The SQL Server tab is not ask a name instance at all, so I do not know how to do this. I guess I could do my static ports for each instance, but the point of using SQL Browser is that you need not do so. SQL Browser behaves almost like a DNS server for all to come to this machine sql queries.

Is there a way to specify the name of the instance you want to connect to instead of a port #?

In the port field:

Instance: PORT = name

Example:

instance of 1433; = sqlweak

You do not have something in the host name classified as localhost\sqlweak as you would in MS Management Studio.

    Have you checked with the ODBC test utility isql (it is installed by default when you install the unixODBC Driver Manager) If your ODBC driver can connect at all to this named instance? I doubt it will work either as there was that a blog has commented by MS engineer:

  • Administrator API: Connection to a specific instance with username, password

    (1) how to connect to a specific instance of the ColdFusion Administrator with a user name and password.  The example that I see everywhere is variations of:

    seemingly based on no instance and not several administrators.

    My goal is to connect to a set of instances and assign datasources to each of them based on a csv file.  I know how to do everything once connected.

    As far as I know that there is little documentation on the API:

  • Activate connections encrypted for the database engine (SQL Server Configuration Manager)

    Hi team,

    I have a quick question, on the protocols for properties of SQL. Option:

    SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Server Network Configuration > Protocol for SQL_xxx (right click) > properties, we can see two tabs:

    Tab 1: flags

    Tab 2: certificate

    If I put the value of Instance of hide = Yes, 'Force Enctyption', the fact must be set to YES as well?

    Or Enctyption of the Force must be activated in order to hide the instance?

  • Creation of the DSN that is needed to connect the 5.1 vCenter to SQL Server

    I'm looking for a simple process, step by step create the DSN that is needed to connect the vCenter Server 5.1 to an already configured SQL database.

    It must be simple, still usable by a person who is not a database administrator.  He should assume no knowledge of database.

    It should be usable on 64 - bit Windows 2008 Server R2 OS when connecting to a SQL Server 2008 R2 database.

    It must include ALL the options I have to configure when configuring the DSN, so that later I can run vCenter Server 5.1 installation and Breeze the by.

    Screenshots would be too great, but if you have a step by step, that would be great.  Some thing that you can go totally illiterate crew of database and they can cross step by step.  Docs from VMware do not give enough details and do not point to a good reference.

    Hello

    Click on Control Panel > administrative tools > Data Sources (ODBC).

    Open ODBC connection, select the system DSN tab, and then click Add

    Select SQL native client, click on finish

    He will ask DSN name, enter the name you want for VC DSN.

    Then enter the address database of VC.

    Then it will ask for authentication, select which option of your choice, as based on windows or SQL based authentication.

    Then click Next and select the correct database that has been created for VC in drop-down option

    Finishing and test the connection.

    Please guide...

    Sam,
    The link between DG4ODBC and SQL * Server is managed by the information and the driver specified in the system DSN defined as parameter HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO.
    When you create the database link, you should double quotes around the user and the password under SQL * Server is case-sensitive. If quotes are not used, they are translated to uppercase, so try-

    create database GSIS_PQSR link
    connect to 'User_name' identified by 'PASSWORD' using 'GSIS ';

    in the correct case as defined on SQL * Server.

    For the ora-2019 check that-

    -initGSIS.ora is located in the C:\Oracle\app\amk1cob\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\hs\admin directory
    -that the tnsnames.ora entry is located in the directory $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin for the RDBMS not the C:\Oracle\app\amk1cob\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\network\admin of the entry door.

    Kind regards

  • Connection to the SQL Server using Windows authentication

  • Windows 7 64 bit Pro connects to SQL Server on the Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard domain

    I put upgraded to Windows 7 Professional computers to Windows XP Professional, but I have a problem with getting one of software programs management of stock that allows us to connect to our SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Windows on new Windows 7 computers.

    Our computers are connected to a domain, and therefore SQL Server. Computers Windows XP allows each user to standard domain to connect and to connect to SQL Server via the stock management software.

    But on the standard domain of Windows 7 Pro computer users unable to connect to SQL Server, but administrator accounts of area on the same Windows 7 Pro computers can connect to SQL Server through the inventory control program.

    I have set up the alias of the server, the server name and port number via the SQL Server Client Network utility ( cliconfg.exe ) so I know this isn't the problem because it works when I'm logged on as a domain administrator.

    There seems to be something to do with permissions of user domain and Windows 7 Pro. There seems to be a change from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro that does not allow standard domain users to connect to a SQL Server. But I can't find anything about and cannot practice how to solve this problem, except to make all users, domain administrators that is obviously not a good thing to do. So basically I think I need to create a group policy that allows users to connect to SQL Server, but I have no experience in doing this and don't know where to start.

  • Linux for SQL Server: ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8

    Hi guys,.

    I am getting confused with the steps to follow for this because the Oracle documentation is less than the normal ("HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = dns" is not enough for example) and different Articles/forum messages saying different things.

    I am trying to connect to Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Linux (64) to a SQL Server 2008 R2 on x 64 with a database named DBA_Housekeeping. Does anyone have a clear guide to the steps (and where)? Can you see what I'm doing wrong here?

    Oracle hostname: gblabl76

    SQL Server hostname: UKAHES066

    I did all the steps are on the Oracle server. I didn't something on the SQL Server (am I supposed to install a client/drivers there?):

    1 created initDBA_Housekeeping.ora in $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin /.

    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = "UKAHES066\\UKAHES066.DBA_Housekeeping"
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = OFF
    #HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME =

    2 added something to the listener.ora on the oracle server & then start the listener (of the said State UNKNOWN):

    MSSQL = (DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = gblabl76)(PORT = 1523)))
    SID_LIST_MSSQL =
      (SID_LIST =
       (SID_DESC =
          (SID_NAME = DBA_Housekeeping)
          (ORACLE_HOME = /oracle/product/11.2.0.3/db_1)
          (PROGRAM = dg4odbc)
        )
      )

    3. Add a tnsnames file entry:

    DBA_Housekeeping =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = DBA_Housekeeping))
            (HS=OK)
        )
      )

    4 creates a connection to the SQL Server default for this database instance. Then, I created a link of database in Oracle:

    CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK DBA_Housekeeping CONNECT TO "hkadm" IDENTIFIED BY "hkadm" USING 'DBA_Housekeeping';

    But when I try to query the database through a db connection I get the error listed. Anyone see where I am going wrong?

    Do I need to install the drivers on Windows Server (and requires a reboot?)?

    I have to create this DNS thing or matches the string in the hs .ora enough?

    Thanks for the tips: s I hope to connect to our SQL instances server so they can be monitored by their SUMMIT.

    Mike

    Those who seek to connect to Oracle & SQL Server I want to give you the best solution to your problem.

    Use a server linked server SQL for Oracle (push rather than pull).

    If you do just a server then you could do directly. However, if you plan to use several servers, then you must create a SQL Server repository (it could be the free Express version) that will store the data of all your SQL Server databases and then passes Oracle.

    The reason why I did this original post is because I want to store data in our Oracle APEX SQL Server monitoring system. I lost a day trying to trawl through the net for specific instructions for setting up (before Klaus answered me here). It took me less than an hour to select from & insert into an Oracle database in the opposite direction.

    1 install the Oracle client on the instance of SQL Server

    2. If suppliers (under related servers) does not list Oracle then reboot the server (ideally your new repository SQL Server); If she's already then skip this step.

    3. Add an entry for your new DB Oracle TNSNames file

    4 create a server associated with the oracle credentials

    That's all that is needed for a working solution. Yesterday I had nothing, today, I have a link will:

    Many MSSQL isntances-> repository MSSQL-> repository Oracle APEX

  • Service SQL Server 2014 will not start start after the update sp1 (KB3058865, KB3075950, KB3094221)

    Hi, my SQL Server 2014 works very well in my server with WIndows 2012 until I installed the new day & service pack that was required for server hardening.

    I successfully installed SP1 KB 3058865 first, then discovered that the services do not start. After so much research to fix, I came with the 2 cu updates KB3075950, KB3094221 in knowing that it could solve my problem but unfortunately is not.

    I also tried to change the service account that many suggest, but his does not work.

    I tried to replace the master file & maslog but also failed.

    I tried to run etc and unique usermode and restore master db... also failed.

    Here is the log file:
