Do, or you have installed Chrome? It appears that an update of Chrome, (mid April 2013), is responsible for the loss of the option new folder. Even if Chrome has not been installed, here are two patches.

Hello and welcome to the HP support community!

You want to organize your icons in folders, or put a shortcut of data on your home page folder?

The first is easy, this last not so much.

Just hold your finger on an icon, and then drag it on another similar icon.  A "folder" will be done with the name "unnamed file".  Press and hold the words to change the name of the folder.

I'm not aware of a way to file a record of data on the homepage...

  • I used to be able to add new files in libraries by clicking on the tab 'add a new folder '. Now it does not work.

When I go to the library to add a new folder, it does not work.  I used this method, many, many times with no problems.  I have not tried to add a new folder in about a month, I think.  I clicked on the file I want to add a subfolder to do a right click.  He asked new portfolio name.  I find that odd because I have this experience only on my desktop and my laptop.

What should I do to return to the method to add a new folder?

  • Regardless of the update of windows and the drivers, I can't create a new folder anywhere.

I have windows 7 and a LG monitor. For some reason, I can't right click and create a new folder. All other functions of the file seem to work.

    Hello Wesley,

I don't know why you mentioned your monitor, is there something related to your question of record?

In any case, to create a new folder in the Solution Explorer, you right-click on the folder parent (or drive) and select 'create a new folder '. Are you saying that its lack of right click menu? If Yes, most probably the cause is in the configuration of the Explorer.

To access, click on the word "Conduct" in the Solution Explorer's main window and in the menu that opens, select "folder and search options. That opens a window, from the tabs along the top of the page, select "View". Which in turn opens a window with several check boxes, make sure that the default settings are checked (there is a button at the bottom of the window to do) and try again.

Let me know how you fare.

    Kind regards

  • Re: Windows 7 won't allow me to create a new folder

Windows does not create a new folder.
Right click offers many options, including "create new portfolio" but not a new folder. By clicking on the record button create does nothing.

This is something new, but I can't think of anything that I did recently to make it. It sounds like a permissions problem, but I can't find a solution.

Have you checked the folder permissions create? Pull up the properties of the parent folder and select the Security tab and click the Advanced button. Double-click the user, and you will see permissions of created files.

  • Contacts - "new contacts" tab is missing

I have Vista, program in Contacts, I had a "new contacts" tab to add a new person, the tab is no longer there! How can I get it back? I can't change anything.

Assuming you are using Windows Mail...

Open Windows Mail > toolbar at the top, click Contacts > right-click on an open space inside the right-hand > click Customize this folder > under "what kind of folder do you want to", click on the pointer to the right until you see Contacts, click on it. > OK

Missing buttons should be back on now.

  • "New folder" button disappeared

I used to have a button "New folder" to the same extent as him "organize", "Views" and "burn". He disappeared this week (maybe after I made some software update?) and I need this back. Can anyone help?

A related issue (assuming that the 1st question can be resolved). Previously, all my attempts to change the views of folders never helped: I saw "New folder" button in some folder views, but not the other and want to see systematically in all.

Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.  You can experinece the problem even once if/when the updated, re - install then you should post the problem in the window update in the forum: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads and include the name and number for the update that caused the problem.  You should do this or not the procedure of system restore solved the problem with the missing button.

What is the point of view, you may need to change the global template to accomplish this that want your.  Here are some articles that may help.

Here's how to change the default template for a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html.  Default behavior is to select the model based on the first type of file placed in the folder (you must choose something).  Vista sets the folder type template according to what are the types of files in the window and the settings display window Explorer. This will show you how to reset the Windows Explorer folder view settings, disable Automatic folder Type discovery and increase the view of the folder cache to have Vista don't forget display settings, model of file type, size, or position of a specific window for when it was still closed to the location of specific path.

It does not work with the Sub record under, Open with, open in a new tab (Internet Explorer), etc... dialog windows of type through the good File menu bar item. These don't seem to be able to have their size or their position to recall. For the latter, you can use the free program http://autosizer.en.softonic.com/ to resize them.

Here is another article on how to modify the columns in Windows Explorer and sort in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/108665-column-customize.html.  This will show you how Add, Remove, move, change the widthand change the sort order of the columns in Windows Explorer in the way that you want.

Here is another article on how to change the display of the default folders in Vista (but she argues, it is not a perfect solution and can revert to the previous behavior is not as good as the two prior links provided: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13880_3-10019957-68.html.)

I hope this helps in your situation.

  • Cannot create a new folder name

Cannot create a new folder and name it.  The name I give always comes back again record when I hit enter.

I'm assuming that happens with all new folders in the special folder that you use and that you use a "legal" name for the folder - but that is determined when you answer questions of Malke.

It's maybe a permissions issue.  You will have to perhaps take full rights on the folder or even take in charge of the case.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Good luck and I hope this helps!
