Laptop computer without an operating system

Hello!

I have a problem with my laptop. He informed that I don't have an operating system installed. Where can I see my hard drive?

Hi Jack,

I assume that your error message appears when you try to boot your system, in which case it would seem that you master boot record is damaged on your hard drive.

You can, of course to restore your system from your recovery CD, but that it will return to its original state, and you will lose your data, unless your drive has been partitioned.

If you want to access your data on your hard drive you will need to a CD (or bootable FDD) that will get you access to attempt to recover your HARD drive.

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
If it's a look OEM type (such as HP, Dell, Acer, etc) for the certificate of the label of authenticity (COA) anywhere on your body. If you can find the label, look for the version of Windows and the edition, and in this case, you can use the key to activate Windows of the same version and edition. But if you want to go for any advanced version than the one mentioned, you can buy a new copy. You can use the respective version and edition of Windows disk from a friend to activate using the key of COA.

I'm sorry to hear that. In a little more detail would be helpful. Crystal Ball (tm) says when you turn on the computer you get an error message that says somethng like "cannot find operating system". If Crystal Ball (tm) is correct, your hard drive is dead or your motherboard is a failure. Pull the drive and put it in a disk enclosure or use an adapter and test it on a working machine.

  • When I try to connect my computer with XP operating system, I get this error message to: rund1132.exe and cannot log out.

    original title: log question.

When I try to connect my computer with XP operating system, I get this error message to: rund1132.exe and cannot log out.  How can I fix?

    Hi KERRYYX,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. When was the last time it was working fine?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?
    4. What is the full error message that you receive?
    5. Are you able to restart and shut down the computer?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

  • I bought a computer hp laptop with an invalid operating system

This laptop came factory with windows vista, but before I take possession of it, the previous owner had installed a windows 7 home prem upgrade disc. ! of course, it doesn't have a product key. It took a while before the message appeared to me.

is windows vista installation files still on this computer? What should I do? I can't afford to 140.00 for a product key. and my computer is already crazy. someone help me please. I love my H P

Some computers that come pre-installed with Windows often have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...

For HP, press F11 directly after switching on the device

If the recovery partition is damaged, see the following instructions to reinstall Vista:

Reboot, or power on the laptop and immediately after that the Sony Vaio logo disappears, press the F10 key several times. This brings you to the built-in recovery Partition.

You can reinstall the operating system from there.

  • Reinstall WIN XP SP3 to new computer with no operating system

I would like to move my WIN XP SP3 old laptop with no operating system

    Thank you

Go to your computer manufacturer's support web site
and search for the Windows XP drivers for your specific computer or motherboard model number.

If there are Windows XP drivers, then download to a folder on your hard drive and burn it to a CD/DVD.
Then, after installing XP on your new computer install all device drivers, starting with the mother/chipset, LAN, Audio, USB, SATA card, drivers, and so on.

    Notes:

If there is no XP driver not listed that your computer is not compatible Windows XP.

You must uninstall the old computer XP, if you plan to use the same XP product key.

  • Laptop computer without OS and revovery partition deleted

Hi all.  I help a friend who recently bought a used Dell laptop which seems to be in good working condition, however, it won't start.  The former owner told him that they wiped the hard drive prior to the sale, which is always a good idea.  The problem is that they have deleted partition recovery as well.   So, I headed to Dell support on the resolution of the problem.  Given that the PC is out of warranty their only solution was to sell him a new bundled software.  So, as always, seems to be the case, when everything has failed, MS is going to save the day.  Can someone tell me on what options are available to get a working copy and legal Windows working on his PC?  According to the tags on the PC, it was initially delivered with pre-installed Vista Basic.  He would be happy with just a basic OS work for now and upgrade at a later date if he decides the computer is worth the upgrade.  We are not looking for pirated copies to install, just something the OEM license can activate.  Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions that you guys can offer.

One more quick question.  When a used PC is sold, the OEM license remains with the PC?  I'm sure that it cannot be legally transferred to another computer so I assumed that he transferred to the new owner.

    Hello

If the computer/laptop comes with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.) or is licensed to OEM System Builders, that the product key that came with the computer/laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) and the license OEM System Builders are related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when machine who dies.

Only retail Operating System license that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

You can borrow and use a DVD Vista Microsoft (selling retail or OEM System Builders License), which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

The COA sticker is either or in the battery compartment on the underside of the laptop.

With a desktop computer, it's on the side, the back or the top of the computer case.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as well as 32-bit and 64-bit editions different DVD lights.

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Stolen laptop - deactivation of the operating system to prevent future use.

    Greetings,

I learned my father's cell phone was stolen a couple of weeks.  Us, father, sister and myself all have / had the same laptop and (update for win 7 since vista) on a license for 3 users.  Is there a process with Microsoft where they can disable the OS of the stolen laptop?  This process will not affect the other mobile OS licenses?  I ask because we wish to re - use the operating system on another laptop of replacement.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Arthur Hubbard

Nope. Nothing can be done. Who stole the computer allows you to use it.
