  Regarding the battery once a month, reinsert the battery, turn the machine on and let the battery fully charged.  Unplug the AC adapter and let the unit run until you start getting a "low battery" warning  Completely load it again, then let the battery drain to about 40%.  Shut down the laptop, remove the battery and store it separately in a cool place.  Repeat this procedure each month will help you keep your battery in good condition.

• I don't know: operating system for laptop

  Good so I'm an amateur and I just bought this old laptop from a computer thrift store. I have a USB system (kubuntu) of operation. It was working fine until the usb key hit when I boot it says something about an invalid cable (too lazy to check). I've tried different usb ports, rebuild the operating system, ram cahnged. Nothing has worked, any suggestions.

  @James1234546789: when the USB has knocked out, several things could have happened: USB port of the unit has been damaged, damaged the USB key, USB key shorted (Yes - the latter can happen, this is done on a USB key, I had two weeks ago).

  They are all hardware issues - and how I would try to see who was the case would be (1) try a different USB port and (2) try the USB key in a different machine.

  IF the stick is damaged, replacement is going to be the only option.

  If the port is damaged, you are looking for at great expense to repair.

  It seems that you messed up apps (tried to download another application, when an application is already in the process of downloading or installation).
