Latitude E5420 headphones/mic combo jack pinout?

Hi all

My headset has separate microphone and headphones connectors but my Latitude E5420 came with a single headset/microphone combo Jack. I read on this forum that as the headset buddy adapters should solve the problem, but I could not get any locally to test before purchase.

I am planning to make my own adapter, but could not find any Dell documentation on this combo Jack, let alone its stitching. Can you guys help me with this, please?

Much appreciated in advance

François

Thanks Jim. I also had an online chat with Dell support, as well as correspondence by e-mail, even sought and obtained feedback from developers, but still no definitive answer.

Using the fly-wires to connect an open plug a headset I can confirm that the pinout is as given for iPhone here - from the left, right, end to the ground, neck pickup.

See you soon,.

  • Using online on a headset/mic combo Jack

    Hey people.

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section, but I find the Dell Web site somewhat difficult to navigate and wrap around my head.

    Anyway, my question:

I have an Inspiron 13z, version N311z. It has a plug audio combo, that is, the headphones and the microphone. The problem is, I don't know how to go to the line. I have a suspicion that it is automatic and the computer tries to detect whether the line is a microphone or a headset, but I'm looking to do something online: in other words, it is not a microphone in itself. I looked in the audio options and the Dell Support Center is not particularly help me find answers.

    Any input would be appreciated.

I looked in my previous post, and I guess it was a little vague.

I have a shot. It is advertised as headset/microphone combo, although I don't know if this is a new type of jack, I've not heard, or it can be switched between audio in and audio out (I guess).

You were not vague. But I thought in regards this kind of combo jack, that's not for either a microphone or headphones, but for the two - the kind of headphones with a microphone online, which has a 4 segment rather than the normal 3-segment type.

I had assumed that this was what the combo was for, but I'm totally wrong in this assumption. If I'm right then you will probably need an adapter of some sort to get a normal plug to work with her.

  • Combo jack use

If I understand correctly, the combo Jack was introduced about five years ago. And, if I understand correctly, the decision does not support an external microphone.

First: what is supported? To do that another way, if two takes were combined into one, but the mic function is not supported, why not Lenovo just eliminate the mic socket and install a single headphone plug?

Second: does anyone know of a hack that can activate the microphone to this Jack feature?

I have a Behringer UFO202, that uses the USB port as an audio input that allows to record. However, there is a continuous signal high frequency it emits to the record.

Third: Thanks for all of you who read, have the same questions, or answer to help. I find just the replacement of two struggling with a strange combo jack when Lenovo might have put it simply in a single headphone plug.

    Pete

Good day and welcome to the community.

Since the introduction of management combo on several computers in many OEMs, a jack splitter, as shown in this KB:

    https://forums.Lenovo.com/T5/displays-options-and-accessories/microphone-headset-jack-splitter-Neede...
often helped people with separate headphone and microphone facilities.

I hope this helps a little.

    Kind regards.

    Hello

I did a clean install on my Portege R100-11Z of windows 7 and later a new clean install of Windows XP Prof SP3.

All the configuration looks OK. I don't see anny WARNING/message in the configuration settings.

But I hear via a USB headset via the USB.

Looks like the built-in sound card Driver works OK because I get the sound through the USB.
What is the solution to get the sound through the headphone/mic shots?

    > In two configurations, I have no sound from the headphone/microphone jacks.

But that the sound from the speakers?

Theoretically, it could be possible that the headphone is faulty
Inside the headphone jack there is a little switch that switches between speakers and headphones.

  • Combo Jack Audio adapter does not

I recently bought a PC headset adapter for my computer dell alienware 15 "to make sure that I could use my headset into my combo jack. I plug my headphones into the adapter and then into the laptop and I hear static. It is the only sound they play well. Yet the fate of the speakers of the laptop and when I try to change the playback devices there is nothing else than the laptop speakers. Any help to do this would be appreciated.

If I could use my headset

Hello. You don't need an adapter to use earphones. An adapter is required to use a microphone that has a TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) plug.

If your headphones deemed to operate when it is plugged into other devices, but do not work when it is plugged into your outlet combo, or the socket is defective or the audio driver (unless you have Windows 10 which has all sorts of audio problems, including headphone plug does not).

Go to the 15 Alienware support page and the blue BONE 'change' allows you to select your operating system, and then download a new copy of the Creative audio driver in the Audio category. If the plug still does not work after you install the driver then contact support if the laptop is still under warranty.

  • Does anyone use a headset/mic combo port?

Hi, we are looking at 4310, which seems to have a single audio port, what he calls a headset/mic combo.

I've not seen this before. Can someone explain how this works?

Wouldn't not functional enough to support good quality VOIP?

Thanks in advance for your comments

That we can find so far, this combo port is similar to what you would find on a mobile device, like an itouch; Indeed, we use headphones earphones apple - where the microphone part of the cable - with her.  The voice quality is not very good compared to a stand-alone module microphone, but it seems to work.

Help, please. I use my laptop to give daily talks and now the microphone does not work.

Apparently, my mic input jack suddenly developed a problem - from one day to the next without warning. Is there a way to determine if it's hardware related. When you use Skype microphone is not available. When you run the test of the Control Panel, I get a few signals of green activity if I juggle the connector mic, partially from the Jack of the computer. If I plug the mic connector, as it has always worked and is supposed to be, there's no signal activity.

What is the alternative now check and/or repair?

  • HP n208tx... headphone microphone combo does not recognize mic

When I try to connect any headset combo hp having even taken for headset and microphone both... the laptop recognizes no sound speak into the microphone. but I can hear songs in the helmet. Any solution?

Hi ujjwal258518, welcome to the Forums of HP. I understand that your microphone does not work in your combined port. Unfortunately, it behaves as expected. The combo Harbour will not work with the only micro devices, it must be part of a communications headset/microphone device. The other possibility is to get a USB microphone.

As described in the user guide: "If you get a microphone/headset device, make sure that the power cable of the unit has a connector 4 pin that supports audio output (headphone) and audio (microphone)."

Page 6 shows the right side. Section 3 describes the combo Harbour: User Guide

    I hope this helps.

  • 1394 on Latitude E5420 capture drops frames

    Hi all

My first post on this forum. I sincerely hope I can find a solution to a problem that left me speechless. When capturing DV to a Sony DCR-TRV330E the fall canned E5420 firewire connection managers intermittently.

That's what I tried to reduce or eliminate the problem:

    • Put the DVCAM in camera mode; The result is a live stream to capture that excludes Ribbon errors
    • Closed all unnecessary programs, including antivirus programs
    • All readers of defragmentation
    • Captured on a non-system drive
    • Search the latest Microsoft drivers (the E5420 1394 adapter uses the generic Microsoft driver)
    • Search for the latest Dell drivers
    • Toggled commercial capture. All show exactly the same problem, including Windows Live Photo Gallery. Currently, using ScenalyzerLive.
    • Exchanged firewire cables
    • Retry with the machine to different power options
    • Disabled for the 1394 interface power management
    • All the other usual advice for problems capture firewire...

The system is completely not accentuated by the firewire plug. Often everything works beautifully. The processor registers barely 1 per cent, captures by - put is in the region of 3.5 ~ 4 Mbps, ScenalyzerLive is showing simply no storage bottlenecks etc. In fact, things are so strong, and then I was able to backup hard disk during capture without errors or the other side.

Then out of the blue a framework would be deleted. This seems to happen in batches. There will be periods where no frames removed, no matter what I throw on the system. Then there would be periods where a framework gets moved, all the outside a few minutes or sometimes narrower.

I noticed two interesting things in this regard. The first is that the interval between the drops of the frame is often close to multiple minutes, or even half-minutes. This asked me if a background task is regularly check or do something and trip over the capture in the process.

The second happened by looking at the task for this Manager. Once I was able to take a drop of current frame, so to speak. As the frame of the fall occurred, the process then visible in Task Manager list had their "Memory (private working set)" adjusted. All at the same time!

Can what conclusions I get out of here, if anything? What would be the next things to watch? Any other suggestions and welcomed warmly help!

    The machine has a processor i5 - 2540M 2.6 GHz, 4 GB RAM and is installed with Windows 7 32 bit SP1.

    Thank you very much

    François

In the interest of posterity, the fix for this was to disable the States C in the BIOS.

  • Latitude E5420 dead, shows battery, white & Orange flashing battery light

My E5420 battery appears to be dead: if I unplug the AC adapter, it is turned off.

The battery passes Diagnostics. Diagnosis shows the battery is responsible for 74%, but wrong upward. The battery is 77%.

When the power adapter is plugged in, the battery light flashes amber four times, then a white, again and again.

So bad, just battery has not locked in place correctly. I took out and put back and it seems fine.
