Legal use of the Windows XP installation disc.

What can I use the installation CD to do and what I can't use it for?

1. can I use my XP Pro disc to reinstall a file missing in a friends XP Pro?

2. can I use my XP Pro disc to do a repair/install on my XP Pro PC friends?

3. my friend had to format his PC, I can do a re-install with my XP Pro CD on his PC by using his license number?

4. can I make a copy of my XP Pro installation disc for my friend as his is severely damaged?

5. If the answer is no to all these questions, how can my friend solves its problem without having to buy a new license for Windows XP Pro, just to get a new copy?

If I understand the EULA, I can take anything but stock #4 (EULA 1.5), but I can't find any information on this subject. precise logic that if I buy a license for Windows XP Pro, I hold this license until I decide to dispose of it. Material (CD of the OS) is just a tool, and not subject to the EULA. But the EULA says that I can not copy it expect... As the EULA says that I can install the program on a different PC if I buy another license, I guess I \if this license is already judged, a re-installation would be OK for the PC of someone who did not have the CD of the OS.

What can I use the installation CD to do and what I can't use it for?

1. can I use my XP Pro disc to reinstall a file missing in a friends XP Pro?
Yes, you can

2. can I use my XP Pro disc to do a repair/install on my XP Pro PC friends?
You cannot run a repair because the product key is different
You can do an install of XP as long as your friend has his own legal product key to use when installing

3. my friend had to format his PC, I can do a re-install with my XP Pro CD on his PC by using his license number?
Yes. It's really the license number (product key), so that you pay.

4. can I make a copy of my XP Pro installation disc for my friend as his is severely damaged?
Yes, as long as he has his own legal product key

5. If the answer is no to all these questions, how can my friend solves its problem without having to buy a new license for Windows XP Pro, just to get a new copy?

The answers above assume that you all have two copies of the retail XP

You run into problems if one of you have an OEM like Dell, HP etc system.

Make sure all your backup files before you restore the computer/PC laptop to factory State. If you use the original hard drive and have not deleted the recovery partition, your machine must have a recovery partition.

To set your PC/laptop to factory State, restart the PC/laptop. HP welcome screen, press the F11 key to start the recovery process. Follow the instructions on the screen.

  • Where can I get a Windows Vista installation disc?

My old Acer laptop crashed about a year & a half.  I bought a new laptop.  The other day I plugged it to see what would happen.  He came & the guest a insert the Windows Vista installation disc.  Where can I get this drive?  Windows Vista came pre-installed with the laptop, so I do not have a disk with him.  Acer does not know because the laptop is out of warranty.  They told me to take the laptop to a computer repair shop.  Well, I don't want to spend that much money to find out what was on the laptop when it crashed.  Any suggestions?

    Hello

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

As you never received a recovery disk when you bought your laptop Acer here is how to use the internal recovery Partition command which must be...

    2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt and F10 keys.
    3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows splash screen, press the Enter key.
    4. etc.

And if you have problems with the help of the Partiiton of recovery and Acer supplies more recovery media for previous models preinstalled Vista, you may need to use this method:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

    Hi the prey,

    ·         What is the brand and model of the computer?

You should check the settings of the computer BIOS (Basic Input\Output System) to boot from the CD/DVD. Check the manual or the support of the computer Web site for the same.

Note: Be careful when you change the BIOS settings. The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it is possible to change a setting that can prevent your computer from starting properly.

I own a legal copy of DVD of Windows 7 64-bit. I'm trying to reinstall it on my computer, which, for the time being, has no operating system installed, but 13% of expanding windows files, I always get the following error message:

Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupted or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0 x 80070017

What is the problem, how can I fix it? Is my Windows 7 disc damaged?

If you have downloaded Windows 7 and it burned a DVD test burn again at the slowest speed possible. It is also possible the download may have errors, you can try to download it again.

If you have several hard drives remove all except the one that you install Windows 7, and then replace it after Windows 7 is installed.

Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard and mouse before installing.

If using a video card and the computer has integrated video use and remove the video card.

Unplug the computer from the internet, if you have wireless disable.

RAM (memory) - reduce the amount of RAM. 1 GB if 32-bit installation, 2 GB for 64-bit, then replace RAM if the upgrade was successful. If you added new RAM make sure it is also compatible.

Windows 7 installation disc does not

Just a few troubleshooting steps to see if the drive is bad or if the DVD player is bad:

If you have another DVD player available try to use this drive in your computer instead.

If you have another computer available, try the disc of Windows 7 by using this computer and see if it can read the disc, or if the disc cannot be read and is bad.

In addition, if you purchased the retail version of Windows 7 try to put in the other disk of type bit of the Windows 7 disc and see if it works properly.

  • Where can I get a copy of the Windows XP installation for my sister. His was a virus and I had to format the drive. It's a registered computer

Where can I get a copy of the Windows XP installation for my sister. His was a virus and I had to format the drive. It's a registered computer. I have it ready for the operating system but I need to download a copy so I can retrieve my CD-ROM/DVD-Rom drive, so I can then bring to its system and reinstall the XP and then if she wants that we can get a windows 8. I use windows 8 on this system, I bought a few months ago and it's satisfying, but I don't understand why when I got it I could do things like using the keyboard of the screen with my fingers, but now I can't even use the keyboard mouse. It won't work at all. In a way I found it better that way at the beginning because I do a lot of typing and it would freeze until I was constantly stressed. I returned to Windows 7 mode I think but not sure.  All I know is that these two things have never worked correctly, so if they are still under warranty I will bring to the Future Shop and maybe they can fix it. I wish I could turn on and off easily so it does not interfere with my writing and study of a language second.

Windows XP disks are no longer manufactured or sold. You * may * be able to find a place with an old stock for sale, but it is not very likely. Close your only choice is to purchase a used copy somwhere (but I would avoid eBay, where any software you buy is probably hacked).

My old laptop has ceased to exist. How can I get permission to install operating system on a new PC? I provided with the old laptop installation discs, but permission to install them on the new PC is denied.

If the installation provided with your Windows computer discs was preinstalled on the computer - it is OEM and cannot be moved. You can move Windows to another computer if you buy the retail version.

You can move the windows on a new computer

If it's a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on one computer at a time (and if it's a version upgrade the new Windows computer must have its own license of qualification). The previous Windows installation on your old computer must be formatted or deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer.

If it's an OEM license - don't. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.
