  • Dual boot Linux and XP on Lenovo 3000 J205

I have a 3000 j205 (I think. It says on the tag 9686-A12) and one of my friends set up to dual boot with XP that cannot access internet and Susa, which works well. I called customer service and was told that since my mother bought the machine (she died a year from Cancer) that they could only talk to him. It is a Vista box that has never worked directly for her (she dropped out after 3 months of trying to make it work, technical support to come and even my brother and children trying to run more than 20 minutes on the net) I realized that running the network card drivers for XP are missing. He sees even the router wireless in the line and the Comcast cable modem, but he always swears that the internet isn't here. Any ideas? The Vista of origin had the same problem trying to access the net.

If the machine came originally with Vista, then there probably the Marvell ethernet driver.

Scroll to network and you'll see the listed Marvell ethernet driver.

    See if it works.

  • Lenovo U430: 'there was a problem of reset your PC"error

I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 in new U430 touch my brother. I created the recovery USB disk (formatted in FAT32). When I insert and proceed with the installation, there is only a few percent discount to zero and then says: "there was a problem of reset your PC. It does not give me information or choices other than to cancel the process.

How is - this guy did reinstall the OS after upgrade to an SSD? Everyone did encounter this problem?

When you say restore via OKR, you mean with the Virgin SSD installed, I should go to the recovery menu and update from there?

Answer: No. partitions must exist and there should be some files in the hidden OKR partitions to restore. If you need to recreate the partitions for okr work.

I don't have a way to install own OS. That is the question. I put in SSD in the other three laptops in the past and each of them allowed me to create recovery discs to reinstall a version of Windows on the new SSD factory. I find it odd that Lenovo would choose to remove this option.

Answer: The copy of the operating system factory is in a hidden partition on the hard drive. To restore or install you must run OKR via the Novo button if the BONE does not exist. Options:

1 recovery Dvd sets can be ordered from Lenovo. Just give them a call to inquire about this.

2 do the OKR USB flash drive recovery. This will recreate all partiitons including the installation of the OS program.

3 cloning the hard drive using the included DSS cloning program or by a third party program. You need to do a repair late to make the operational okr.

    Hello

Needless to say that a CPU upgrade in a laptop is totally sensless because you won´t gain true high performance. On the other side, you have to be a technician who should be familiar with these systems, because a mobile system is NOT THE SAME as a desktop system.

    Regarding your question:
This system is not able to take a dual-core cpu, because you only have an Intel 910 chipset / 915GM which can only take Intel pentium M.

If you don t believe me just check out this site:

  • How to use the resolution to 1280 * 768 on external TV with Equium A200-15i

    I have my laptop Equium A200-15i hooked to my Bravia HDTV which accepts entries to 800 * 600, 1024 * 768 and 1280 * 768.
But my laptop will be released only in 800 * 600, 1024 * 768 and 1280 * 600 and I want to use the full screen on my TV.

I read a few other posts on this subject and I think that the problem lies in the BIOS, and I've not being updated since I got it in September, but I was wondering too since I'm Dual-booting Vista and XP pro, there will be problems with the BIOS I download?

There seems to be two more different for Vista and XP, who apparently get along out of each other.

Finally, update the BIOS problem will be solved my monitor extended?
And updated the BIOS using the BIOS XP Download break my laptop/vista partition?

Should I just not bother with the Dual-boot and go Vista/XP only?

    Thanks in advance

The BIOS is not the problem!

The fact is that your display driver doesn't support the resolution of 1280 * 768, and so you can't choose it.

    Once again;
    > Finally, update the BIOS fix my extended monitor?
No, as I said above, you can't choose your preferred resolution because it s not included in the graphics driver.

    > And updated the BIOS using the BIOS XP Download break my laptop/vista partition?
No, but if Vista is installed on the laptop then I advise you to use the version of vista BIOS.

    > Should I just not bother with the Dual-boot and go Vista/XP only?
Dual-boot is recommended according to me ;)
I have dual boot on my second notebook too. Dual boot has many advantages...
As you know from the beginning of the applications don't run correctly with Vista and if you have installed XP then you can run it without big problem ;)

  • 500 - 516nc Pavilion: Pavilion that keep me from installing and running Linux

    Hello

I recently bought the Pavilion 500-516nc with preinstsalled of Windows 8.1. I was intending to set up a dual-boot for the computer, as the seller claims that this machine is suitable for a number of operating systems.  However, I can't install and run the operating system I want.

UEFI mode, the computer is not USB, or the DVD-ROM and does not offer to start from other sources, with the exception of the Windows boot loader, even after I disabled the 'secure' boot When I go to the legacy, I can actually run the other OS live USB or DVD and I can install it. However, the legacy would not boot from the HARD disk for some reason any (perhaps because the disc capacity is too large?). And I can't find a way to make the system work, I installed through legacy mode UEFI.

I would not return the unit to the store, because it suits me almost all the other senses, but this issue is a big problem for me. What can we do about it?

    Best regards.

    No452, welcome to the forum.

I ran the systems dual boot for years using Windows and Ubuntu, Linux.  The best way to do this, it uses two hard disks.  Windows do not play nice with the other OS' are on the same hard disk.

That said, if you want to install Ubuntu on the same drive, here's a guide that should help you:

    https://help.Ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

I tried several Linux distributions and found Ubuntu to be the easiest to use.

  • Re: Question about dual OS and recovery

I want to set up a dual boot option and not need to have all your hard drive reformatted when I use the recovery disc.
My previous machine (a non-Toshiba) only reformatted the score required for the operating system is reinstalled. But this seems not possible on Satellite?

    Hello adlanou

As a first step, it will be interesting to know what model of laptop you have. Your opinion may be true. On older models of laptop computers, it was possible to install the recovery image on favorite partition but the recovery procedure on new models of laptops is completely different and before starting the installation of the disk recovery HARD integer will be removed and existing partition deleted.

  • Is it possible to get 3 primary partitions on a SATA HDD?

It seems a simple question, but I'd like some opinions on this. I have Vista pre-installed but not bootable in addition to a bootable XP.

I want to add a 3rd OS to share the boot with XP keeping Vista on the reserve. I know that there is another main partition of the SATA drive, WinRE, the recovery for Vista partition.

So, in reality, there are 4 primary partitions, both bootable. Could there be any problem with that?

    Thanks for any comments.

Yes, you can create 3 primary partitions.

My laptop is using dual boot option I use XP and Vista. The two BONES are bootable.

First, I installed Vista. Then, I created 3rd partition using Vista disk management settings.
Then I installed XP on the new partition.

After this procedure, I was not able to start the Vista once again because the Win XP has damage the panoramas start Manager. It was only a small matter. I could renew the boot manager of Vista boot from the Vista CD and selecting the repair option.

Finally, I installed BootVis (it s a Vista Boot Manager management tool) and could add the XP to the Boot Manager.
Of course it is possible to add other OS, but I think than XP and Vista is sufficient.

Perhaps this brief description can help you add new BONE.

    Best regards

  • Equium A200-15I - random crash & startup problems

    Hello

I recently experienced a few problems that began with intermittent "block white screen" - keyboard not responding, only one capable of re - start by the power button Manual on my laptop. He spent a few times now and not appear related to any program I use (it crashes just awaiting a response to a program). The screen is usually, but not always, the whites when it occurs (it crossed my mind that color [a uninterrupted tone] seems to be regardless of the predominant color on the screen was just before the accident).

Since then, despite a few days without error, the problems have intensified: today the computer had problems to feed to the top at all. When she did I had the normal thing "could not start properley last time... check/correct errors. He reappeared, and random crashes.

I use mainly from Vista, but I don't have a dual-boot option that I put in place because when the system boots (the drive is partitioned), so I also use XP occasionally. The accidents occurred in the two operating systems.

Here's what I did in the way of diagnosis/fixing the problem:
-Scan/repair disk returned no error hard drive that I could see.
-Ditto for the RAM (I also checked to see if it was mounted properley)
-As far as I can tell the fan is working properley and I cleaned up (I thought that accidents can be related to overheating).
-J' used service of Toshiba Tempro to search for the drivers and updated and there is no update imprtant absent from my machine.

I think I can anticipate the advice're - format and restore to factory settings', but I have a very good reason for what in fact a very last resort. I'm due to hand in my thesis at the end of the month and there are a lot of programs and customizations, that I can't afford to lose right now. But if necessity...

Help! It is massively distracting for me right now...!

Thank you very much, Richard :-)
p.s. I might add that I am about six weeks out of warranty (the laptop is just over a year - purchased from Curry). I don't know what the policy is to support and repairs out of warranty, but this should not be happening with an old 1 year machine! Cheers :-)

How did you test the RAM? Use www.memtest.org

It could be a motherboard or the failure of the VGA card.
