  Hi all - new to the forum and what a good place to find info on Toshiba laptops. Anyway - after a recent storm, I lost connection to my ISP broadband - contacted the helpline who advised me to Exchange my ADSL modem to an Ethernet - made and corrected the connection problem - however - only after having it done I realize has none of my devices (printer, camera, Web Cam etc.) worked via the USB ports. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the system and drivers for devices without result. The device displays 500ma of power manager is available for each of the 3 ports but watch 0ma used. The Device Manager also shows that the USB ports are working properly. Can someone help or advise if these ports on a separate card or they are part of the motherboard. If Yes, where can I get a.   A lighting strike is not good news, if she gets hit by a kind something can go wrong. My guess is that your laptop USB ports has taken suddenly by a massive power surge that probably damaged the chips inside. It could be a Windows problem, or not the only thing I could suggest is to use a bootable Linux such as Knoppix CD and run a command called usbview with some USB devices.
  If the USB has been confirmed dead then your only option is to use an adapter CardBus USB 2.0 providing your CardBus slot is not damaged too.

I created a name slightly different admin and already had a name of admin, so that gave me 2 users with administrator rights. When I log in as an administrator, I can't rename any files or folders.   Carl, if I were you, I would like to delete the Admin account that does not allow you to change the names and start over again.  A problem occurred when the account was created.

  Reminder: Our Dell Dimension 2400 was overloaded and crashed on the replacement furniture Dell 80 GB Seagate Barracuda hard drive. I replaced the HD with a Western Digital 160 GB 7200 Caviar. Dell messages, and configuration of the Bios Setup has recognized the new hard disk that passes Diagnostics.

  To load an operating system, Dell kindly immediately sent me a set of replacement for CD for my little ones displaced. I changed the boot sequence in the BIOS Setup to boot from the CD first. Reinstalling OS CD will not start upward, and yourself the Strike F1 or F2 for setup message appears. F1 does not. The keyboard has not received an error and working on the Dell.

  Error message that only appeared on the disk, so I changed the settings of the BIOS on 'Not installed' for the floppy drive.

  The red light of the headset jack means the MacBook Pro thinking that an optical audio cable is plugged into the port. Try to have disconnected and reconnected a headphone plug into the port several times. There is a tiny sensor inside the port that determines if the port is operating in analog or optical mode. Something similar by plugging should trigger the sensor and restore the analog signal.

  Possible explanation.  It is likely that batteries, so fresh, can be irregular in size.   The uncertain connection would therefore tend to lead to a failure to blink and you declare.   Read my thing...
