Printer is always offline

I'm running Windows X pro and whenever I re - start or restart, my printer is offline. I have to unplug the USB cable and reconnect it in order to get online. Is there a setting I can change that will stop this?

  • Printer keeps going offline

Hello, I have a HP Office Jet Pro 8500 A910, my laptop is connected wireless.  It is the 3rd time in as many weeks that I tried to print and have discovered that my printer is "offline".  I don't remember what I did the previous time except deleted printer solutions and some other info that I found that has worked.  Can someone help me and tell me why this keeps happening and to prevent it from happening soon?  I'm always 'offline' and trying to find a solution.  Thank you.

I thought about it with your help.  I noticed my printer to another IP address which was very similar to mine.  I still don't know why he keeps go offline, however.  Thank you to point me in the right direction.

Number of brand and model of the router?

These settings are to set up your printer wireless (or wired):

    • Stay connected to your router
    • Trouble printer status 'offline '.
    • All wireless devices stay better connected
    • Fact faith, your router most secure and hack
    • Can speed up wireless printing

While the DHCP is convenient, devices like printers (wired and wireless) should always be assigned a (fixed) IP address manually to avoid conflicts on your wireless network and must be outside the range of the router DHCP.  After setting the IP address static, computer must be updated to show a Standard TCP/IP port with the IP address of printers under printer properties/Ports.

    1. Set a static in the printer IP address (click here) outside the range of the DHCP of the router (check your manual). It is for Linksys routers, but can be used for all routers. Check your DHCP range and change this first if necessary. More Help Wireless Printing is here and here and still more here.  Video here explains the problem and how to solve the problem. <-so watch it!
    2. Or check in the printer "Auto Off/sleep/Energy Saving Mode" is disabled the System Mode Time Out is set to zero (0) Use the built-in webserver (EWS) by visiting the printer address IP address in the address bar of your browser, click on settings tab/Auto Off. Or use the printer, printer Home Page (EWS) Wizard. Also check your printer properties.
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, disable the IPv6 option in the printer.
    4. Make sure that the printer is connected directly to a socket wall and not to a UPS, power strip or a lightning arrestor. This will cause the printer to drop offline connection and disconnection (checked yes!).

Additional measures to take if you continue to have the problem (if they are posted)...

  • Pinter is always offline

Hi, my printer is connected to a linksys n wireless router. It works perfectly until a few days when the power went out. I had to reset the router pppoe setting in order to get internet, but she is always offline. can not find a way to solve the problem. Anyone know what could be the problem?

Right-click on your printer and select the option use printer online...

Make sure that your printer is assigned an IP address that is in the same Segment as that of your router...

If the IP address of your router is 192.168.1.1, your printer must be assigned an IP 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.11 and so on...

  • Printer HP 2605dn offline with Windows 7

Printer returned to offline mode.  She does regularly every 2-6 months for 5 or 6 years I've owned it.  Tried to remove & reinstall, tried both the printer & off the computer.  Nothing works for now.

Sometimes, it is an easy offline & closing all & restart will fix it.

Other times, like now, it's a hard Offline where anything I did before fix it.  Printer refuses to go back online.

My router has an IP set reserved 0-9, the 10 IP printer, for example 192.168.0.10 tried to manually set the printer to match the assigned port but always in offline mode.  Even when I operate, after 2 months, it is assigned port IP changes to some random # and it goes offline again.

Any suggestion is appreciated.  Very tired of this problem with HP.

Thank you very much.  I managed to do the work.  It does not appear the Windows-7 periodically loses the lease on intellectual property and assigns it elsewhere.   In this case the printer had a fixed IP address and that the IP was reserved for the MAC address of the printer in my router DHCP Server.

However, this didn't stop Windows 7 from the creation of a new device and assigning the IP address.     I removed the new feature of Windows 7 and my old Windows printer and created a new printer in Windows and made sure he used this IP address.

I should also mention to try to use latest PCL6 HP "universal printer drivers.  These most recent allow double-sided printing which allows to make my printer itself.  The old drivers (PCL5) do not support this.

  • Is always offline? HP Officejet J4500 Wireless?

Ok.. Well, here's my problem. My printer was working perfectly until last night. I connected it to a D-Link router in my dorm room. The problem is that the printer is currently offline. So I tried to re - plug the cord in and it starts to 'Warm up' but I can't do anything and within 30 seconds, the printer goes offline again. I reset my router a week ago could be a problem? I really need help to fix my printer!

In the control panel of the printer: Setup > network > reset network by default.

Next: Configuration > network > Wireless Setup Wizard

Finally, set a (not variable) IP address for the printer:

-Print a the front of the printer Network Setup Page. Note the IP address of the printer.
-Enter the IP address in a browser to reveal the internal settings of the printer.
-Choose the network tab, then wireless along the left side, then on the IPv4 tab.
-On this screen, you want to set a manual IP address. You must assign an IP address outside the range that the router sets automatically (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.0.100 a.199 we will use 192.168.0.220 for your printer (check the first three sets of numbers - your router can use sets of first three slightly different, like 192.168.1.x).
-Apply the subnet 255.255.255.0 (unless you know it's different, if so, use it)
-Let the gateway and DNS white. Click 'apply '.

Now, stop the router and printer, start the router, wait, and then start printing.

After that, you will have to redo 'Add printer' using the new IP address.

  • OfficeJet 4620: printer keeps going offline

OfficeJet 4620 - printer keeps going offline.  If I turn it on and turn it on, it's online for a while, but it disconnects again.  My IPad can't print on it. My Windows laptop, 10 shows as offline.  I can open his web page by entering the IP address in a browser and can ping it, but it also shows offline.  It is very annoying to have to reset the printer whenever I want to print to it wireless.  Is this to say that the wireless antenna is going wrong?  Should I buy a new printer?

I found what caused my problem when troubleshooting the installation of a new printer. I have 2 range Extenders. They had the same ssid as my router. One of the reports of tests of the new printer had a warning about it. I changed the range extenders in order to have all 3 different SSID. Now when the ipad & printer are that both connected using the ssid for the range extender in the room with the printer, there is no problem of ipad impression. My old printer is fine.

What is the Officejet Pro 8500 you have, or should I say 8500 a on the front of your printer?

  • Printer has gone offline

Running: Windows Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 2)

    Printers: HP Deskjet 6940

Today I went to print a document and the printer never started printing.  The document was in the queue, but it was not actually printing.  The printer had gone offline, so I tried restarting my computer and then restart the printer.  That did not work, so I went to the control panel > hardware and audio > printers and delete the printer in the hope to reinstall.  I was not able to reinstall it, and my computer is not recognizing that there are still the printer.  I tried to plug it into different USB ports without success.

Hi, Mario... Thanks for trying to help.     I've been through the Web site that you pointed out in your email.  I started from the beginning to the end, a couple of times, thinking I must have missed something.   Now the prints will not even go into the queue.   The printer is a HP Photosmart Plus B210 series.     I downloaded the latest version of the software and the driver on the HP support site.    Test pages out of the printer, but pages will not display when I try to print anything from the computer itself (i.e., photos, emails, file in Notepad, etc.).

You mentioned that if the site has not fixed my problem, you'd be willing to help more.    Your offer is still open?   I am really frustrated.     Thank you.
