Lightroom CC vs 5.7 catalog

I'm trying to run my lightroom catalog on a few computers with LR CC and the other older computer is LR5.7.  I need to be able to use the catalogue of the LR5.7 on the newest computer but it won't work with the version of the CRD.  If I download the version of LR CC of my old computer my existing version of LR catalog will convert to a usable format?

Hi 53Photo19,

You can use the Lightroom 5,7 to CC with Lightroom Catalog, but you must update the catalog.

Incase you try to synchronize the same catalog on multiple computers, then you must have the same version of Lightroom installed on both computers.

Kind regards

Tanuj

    Hello

    Try resetting preferences

Note:-back up your Lightroom Catalog beforehand and save Photoshop preferences

    * Now reset preferences Hold Down CTRL + ALT + SHIFT (WIN) CMD + OPTION + SHIFT (MAC) while starting Lightroom. A dialog box appears prompting you to restore Preferences (LR)

    Once done open again Lightroom

Make sure you have a lot of read/write of the location where you save the catalog... To create a folder on your desktop, confirm, then try to create the catalog again it

I would like to know if there is a question...

    Thank you

  • How install CC Photoshop and Lightroom does affect my current catalogs, previews and caches?

I'll subscribe to the Adobe Creative cloud photography Plan. How can I keep (import?) and use my current catalogs, previews and caches of my current installation of Lightroom? Or will I have to start again once installed the new version of Lightroom CC?

If you are currently using Lightroom 5 then switch to the creative cloud is really simple. There are those who say that it is not necessary to move to Lightroom downloaded from the creative cloud. But I did it. I use Windows, so I used the standard uninstall process to uninstall my standalone Lightroom. Then I installed Lightroom from the creative cloud. Once the installation is complete there is an icon for Lightroom (just like the other because it's the same program) on my desk. I double clicked on the icon and Lightroom opens the same catalog I used everything I had done before was still in place. You see, the catalogue and the previews and all other files are user files generated by Lightroom on your computer. But they are not part of the Lightroom program. So removing the Lightroom program does nothing to your catalog, previews or the preview cache. It is precisely the same program. This is just a license differently.

If you use Lightroom 4 then 5 Lightroom you will find the catalog you used and invite you to allow him to create an updated copy of it that is consistent with the new database format. It is no different than the upgrade of the stand-alone version. So the short answer is that you should not lose all your work of switching.

  • How to resolve the error: "lightroom could not import this catalog due to an unknown error" during an attempt of "import catalog?

I have about 400 000 pictures of so given the high number of 15 years, I had all my photos in 6 catalogues to avoid potential problems. All photos and catalogs are in a 4 TB Seagate external hard drive. I use Adobe Lightroom 5 and I use a PC with the latest Windows Office 2013.

I wanted to have a NEW catalogue of all my rated 1 star + photos of all years in a single catalog. So I created this I called Catalog + Star and told me the best option is to import a catalog at a time, and because there is no way to filter import them just photos now, I would like to import all the photos and then delete all the photos of UnStared. I did for the catalog of the year 2014, but in the end gave me the message: "lightroom could not import this catalog because of an unknown error. He had in fact imported about 40 k pictures of about 50 k total. I tried again and again and each time I end up with the same thing. I created a new another catalog and looked from scratch and the same ting happened: EXACT 40 k photos or JUST have been imported and others were not! When I imported catalog year 2013 of about 45 photos of k, it worked perfectly. But when I imported catalog year 2012 35 k photos, it's the same thing!

All the tips: 1) on how to solve this problem? and (2) if there is a way better and easier to create this main catalog of all looked at them Photos of all my catalogs?

Okay, my starting point is that LR can contain fortunately 400000 + photos, and it's a mistake to create a 1 star and catalogue as you suggest. Instead, I would recommend that you create a master catalog of all your photos, you can then question however you want - 2 stars, or a certain keyword, or with "xyz" in the title, etc.

If you are intent on going this way, you could try a slight change in what you have done so far. Instead of trying to import a complete catalogue and then delete photos of TSE, take the 2012 and 2014 catalogs and select only the photos 1 star. Then to Export in the catalog for these items and import the 2014-1star and 2012-1star in your new catalog. Can pass the problem images that I think are the problem.

If this does not work, or if you follow my initial advice, you're going to need identify the image where the failure occurs. You may have a corrupted image file, and replacement of your backup can be enough to solve the problem. Alternatively, it may be a corrupted in the catalog folder, and in this case, it may be sufficient to remove the image from the catalog and import it again. You can try to select everything in the catalog of 2014 and see if you can do an export as catalog, creating a 2014 clean and delete file previews of 2014 could also get rid of a potential problem. Another thing is to try exporting in the catalog for images 1-40000, then a second export as catalog images 40002 - 50 k.

So a few things that you need to try, rather than a magic bullet and a recommendation to change the underlying meaning.

  • How can I tell lightroom 5 to use a catalog that is moved to another drive?

I moved the entire file my images (including my Lightroom Catalog), which was previously on my Windows 7 (64 bit) drive c: to another drive (f) and now I need to update Lightroom so that he knows where to find his re catalog - find.

Please could I have a few basic instructions to change the Lightroom settings, in order to reuse the old catalog.

    Thanks for your help,

    Ian

It can be very simple or it can be complex. To start, first of all make sure that the catalog file (the one with the .lrcat (LRCAT) extension) and the file preview that has the same name as the catalog but with the extension Previews.lrdata file are in the same folder. With Lightroom closed, double-click the catalog file and it should start Lightroom, if the original photos files are in their original location every thing should be fine. If the original files are not in the same place, then you will need to navigate Lightroom where they are. Post for additional information if you need additional assistance.

  • Lightroom can't use the catalog named 5 because lightroom catalog that it is not writable and cannot be opened

    Help, please!

I've been struggling for hours to open lightroom. My computer turns off without reason, and then I went back into the light room and had the following startup message:

Lightroom can't use the lightroom catalog 5 catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened.

I tried everything I can. I searched online and you have deleted the files of 'locking' of the catalogue record. I did what is obvious and just rebooted. I checked the 'permissions' and nothing has worked. Help, please. I JUST finished images edited in 1000 and I need to export. I won't cry if I need to change their brand new

In your OS, the folder that contains your catalog must have read & write permission.

If you think that you already have, we show a screenshot so that we can see in the Explorer Windows/Mac Finder folder that contains the catalog file; and show us an another screen shot of the permissions on this folder.

Also, please check the catalog file in your operating system to ensure that it is not set read-only.

  • Lightroom could not save the catalog

I get the following error when trying to save my catalog:

Lightroom could not save the name of the catalog 'Catalogue Lightroom'.

    I use Lightroom CC 2015.5

I have over 300 GB of free space on my drive.  I have more than 3 GB of photos.

Backup follows these steps before the failure:

    Integrity checking,

    Copy of catalog

    Catalog optimization

    The Catalog backup compression

Any ideas on what to do next?

I had a chat with Adobe session live support.  She has tried everything that you guys recommended then asked me to delete a bunch of files on my C drive because it was pretty full.  She said that this drive should be at least 2 x the size of the free catalog.  Once I cleaned stuff backup succeeded.  Thank you all.

  • Lightroom 6 crashes on opening catalog

Tried the update of Lightroom, the windows and the GPU.   Renamed preferences and the locking file.  Always crashes using 25% of the CPU.

In this case, try opening a recent backup catalog. If you have LR 6/CC, the backup will be compressed.

Unzip it to a folder of your choice, and then double-click the .lrcat file to launch LR. (do not try to launch LR by clicking its shortcut)

The backup can be so recent that you can continue to use it, but if not, create an empty catalog (File > New), and then try again to import the catalog of problem in the new. (File > import from another catalog)

In both cases, once you have a working catalog, immediately make a backup and make sure to check the integrity of the test and optimize catalog.

  • Upgrade from Lightroom 6? Transfer of catalog?

My catalog and collections, I have currently in Lightroom 5 automatically will transfer when I download Lightroom 6?

    TIA, Don

    Hello

Yes because soon you will launch Lightroom 6 it will be updated from the 5 Lightroom Catalog and save it as a copy.

And all your collections and the changes that you made on the images will be delayed.

    Thank you

  • 6 Lightroom purchase request and old catalog compatibility

I downloaded the demo.  Downloaded Photoshop, but Lightroom does not because a year ago, I had a try of Lightroom.  Now I have one bought 5.7 Lightroom, but I want to see how Lightroom 6 works with Photoshop, which is my reason to consider a creative plan Cloud.  The first obstacle was that my catalog should be upgraded, but that doesn't mean that I won't be able to use it with LR 5.7?

    [Title edited for clarity... MOD]

    Hi Pat,

Yes, your catalog must be upgraded to Lightroom 6, but you will still have the old 5.7 Lightroom Catalog with you to use Lightroom 5.7. As Lightroom will just create another copy of your catalogue that would be compatible with Lightroom 6.

Catalog Lightroom 6 does not work with Lightroom 5.7 as there is no backward compatibility.

Lightroom 6 works the same way with Photoshop like Lightroom 5.7.

    Please check Lightroom 6 news:http://www.lynda.com/articles/new-photoshop-lightroom-cc-lightroom-6

  • Lightroom 6 does support CC catalog?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Does anyone know if Lightroom 6 can work with a catalog that has been created or maintained in Lightroom CC?

I know Lightroom 5 cannot do this, because it gives me the message below. So I try to find out if the upgrade to LR6 will solve the problem.

    catalog.png

OK, the LR5 cannot read the new format of the LR 6/cc catalog. (Even with LR4 try to read a LR5 catalog.)

LR6 and 'LR CC 2015.x' are basically the same program and use the same catalogue format.

  • 6 Lightroom will not create a catalog and therefore does not start

Installed 6 Lightroom on a Windows 8.1 System. Provided with a serial number, but he complained that I need Internet access. Internet worked very well, so I chose to connect later. That is at least 8 times. Now when I try to run, the icon appears on the taskbar but it stalls. When I hover over the icon it shows a thumbnail of the screen to create a new catalog, but it will never develop the screen. The only option I have is to close the small window with a right-click. Then I start again and it's the same - no possibility to start Lightroom even after a reboot, then a re - install! Can not yet return to the fake my serial number validation attempt.

I decided on a variation of your suggestion. I uninstalled and then download the latest version of Adobe's CC. However, the same problem persists. So, it was now time for some lateral thinking! Since the start-up became not even the creation of Catalog screen, I thought something was wrong there. So I grabbed a laptop, installed Lightroom and then copied the file Pictures\Lightroom on my desktop PC. It worked! Now Lightroom works well. I have to do is enter my serial number and it does not look back

  • Lightroom can't use the catalog named 'Master Catalog 5'

    I use a Dell laptop that was running Windows 7 x 32.

Yesterday, I formatted the hard drive and installed Windows 7 x 64.

All my Lightroom files are on an external hard drive.

After you have reinstalled 5 Lightroom on my new version of Windows, I tried then open Master Catalog 5 only for getting the following message...

"Lightroom cannot use the catalog named ' Master Catalog 5 ' because it is not writable and can not be opened."

I then read all (I hope) I could find on this topic on this forum and made sure that the Master Catalog (and all subfolders) on the external hard drive can read; Click on 'Properties' and made sure read-only has been highlighted.

This has not solved the problem for me.

I also noticed that there is a 'log' file I deleted and a file .lock I found.

None of this helped I always get the same warning message.

Maybe you have an idea on what I can do next?
