  We test POS and file-level restore feature. We have a file server that is not part of the vCenter with WTP installed so I can't test on it. It has two 2 TB vmdk files that are grouped into a single 4 TB drive in Windows. Documentation of POS said "two or more virtual disks mapped to a single partition" are not supported. Is that what we have going on here?

  Yes, and even if used you a single virtual drive to a partition, you will always be on a scenario that is not supported, because you use dynamic disks.

• With server 2012 POS file level restore

  When I run a backup on a virtual machine running Server 2012 and then try to navigate this image to the file level using the Data Protection restore vSphere Client, I can't do it. I can ride with success and can see the image, but when I try to extend down to the level of the file I can't do. When I get the images running Server 2008 R2 however, I can browse to the level of the files without a problem. I was wondering if there is a problem of compatibility between the Data Protection of restoration of Client and server 2012? Also, as a quick add, I can restore a server running VM 2012 using the full image, so backups work fine on the 2012 VM server. It would just be nice to be able to navigate and file level restore. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

  This is probably a limitation around file systems THAT VDP currently support for FLR. Please see page 74 of the VDP Admin guide:

  I have tried the new VDP 6.0 to see if it can replace our backup solution existing and well except for file-level restores.

  I managed to get the virtual machine is saved and I know that to make a "level of restoration of files" or FLR, I have to connect to https:// < IP_of_your_VDP_appliance >: 8543/flr of the virtual machine itself.  I would like to know if I can do a restore from another machine as my own workstation?  That would make it a little easier for me or helpdesk guys perform restorations, but I can't figure out how to do this.

  Your workstation is a physical machine? Therefore, it is not part of a backup of VDP job. You can use a virtual machine that is included in a backup of VDP job to perform a restore of file regardless level login to basic or advanced. Try to add another virtual machine to the backup job, and then open a session guest virtual machine OS second and try to restore a file from the first saved VM. Keep in mind the guest OS types should be similar (Windows or Linux).

  Welcoem to the Forums - the difference comes from the days when storage Networks were first being developed - two lanes have been developed - SAN and NAS each storage condition via a network - in contrast to understandthe you understand what command are carried through each network.

  SAN - Package, either Firber Channel or iSCSI San, runs a command SCSI causing SAN return the approriate blocks

  NAS - only supports two protocols - SMBfor Windows oe NFS for Unix/Linux.  ESX only use NFS. So for the NAS, the command is therefore more a SCSI command but a file system control - when the order reaches your NAS file system control device is managed and the data is returned to your ESX host.

  the virtual machine is having a RDM LUN then I may be able to restore a single file where the virtual machine failed or the RDM LUN has been corrupted.

  The RDM LUN must be in virtual mode to use the program to backup to a virtual environment (requiring a snapshot of VMware to work).

  VCB, Veeam Backup, vRanger connection,... can make backup image and image, you may also file level restore.

  Or you can try a solution based on instant storage.

  I would level permissions Setup file to read-only for a particular file, only users who are inside subfolders in win 2 k 3 sp2 environment for users of the AD. For admin group, that it should be permitted for normal users, they should be able to add/edit content, but does not delete the contents of the folder. At the same time, they should be able to read the content of a particular file located in different subfolders.  Please advise me on how to do this.

  Let's take a step back and understand what is 'normal' JavaScript. Normal to you probably means browser based, but it is only your point of reference. Any implementation of JavaScript includes at least the core JavaScript language, and that's what you have in the two Acrobat JavaScript, but also browser JavaScript. Things like the JavaScript syntax are dealt with in this part of the language, how are managed types (numbers, strings, arrays, classes,...), but also a number of items of library like for example the Date object. In addition to this basic language, almost all JavaScript implementations have a second part, which is the specific application. In the browser, you deal with HTML and windows and other things that have no meaning in the browser environment. In Acrobat, you work with PDF documents, annotations, form fields and more. The specific web browser Javascript is no more or less 'normal' that the implementation in Acrobat. It takes some getting used to a different environment, and what is the Acrobat JavaScript API reference. You will find all the specific objects in Acrobat and methods described in there. What makes things a little more difficult for you, is that you probably don't know corresponding to the line between the core language and browser-specific extensions, so you'll have some re-learning the language in front of you.

• VDP file level restore gives only a blue screen in the browser

  We have deployed the POS device a few weeks ago and except some problems it seems to do it's job base that is place backup and restore of virtual machines. But when Itried to use the level of the customer restore file web it don't work for us. On a Server Windows 2008 R2 and a virtual Windows 7 machine saved upward by the VDP, both with the latest VM tools installed, I open a browser and point it to https://VDP_IP:8543 / flr , it shows a certificate waring that I choose to accept (using the cert standard vCenter for now) and it loads a blue screen , but nothing more, and I have no connection box. I tried to restart the POS and the virtual machine, but it still doesn't work. I've attached a screenshot of what it looks like.

  We use assessment and had no assistance to open a SR.

  Anyone has any ideas or might have seen the same problem?

  I think the problem is arround the Microsoft IE. Maybe you can try with another browser, firefox seems to work.

  Hope that soon, there is a solution for this problem.

• VDR 2.0 does not not with file-level restore Client

  I've recently upgraded to vsphere 5 and vdr 2.0. VDR works well, but the file restore client does not connect to the vdr unit. It indicates that the data recovery service is not running on the device that you connect to. If someone has experienced the same problem or there at - it a new version, if the level of restoration of customer for vdr 2.0 files?

  Yes, there is a new version of the restoration at the level of the Client files in the ISO Image. You can find it in the directory: WinFLR for Windows and LinuxFLR for Linux.

  It is a simple exec file.

  You can copy the virtual machine where you want file recovery (it does not require installation) and their lunch... and then follow the instructions in the wizard.

  You can also run from another system, but in this case you have to autenticate to perform a restore.

I am trying to log https://< my applicance POS >: 8543/flr but can not. Should what username and password I use? I get the error message 'failed to connect.   You will need to connect to the POS device using a web browser in one of the virtual machines you have already backed up. Use the URL you mentioned and connect with a local OS user invited with permissions of administrator. The steps are detailed in the POS administration guide.

  I have a project which consists of 8 books.  Each book contains instructions for a specific module of functionality in the whole software I'm documenting.  Is it possible for a user to look up a word in a specific book (i.e., module), instead of searhing overall help the project?
