VDR - file-level recovery

Hi friends,

I would be grateful if anyone can clear me.

I know there is an option to restore the level of recovery of files for windows & linux machines in VDR. But iam not clear how I can do it.

While performing a restore on VDR, I see only one option to select a vmdk file in a virtual machine. How to restore a single file of the VDR backps.

Thanks in advance.

It is a simple exec file.

You can copy the virtual machine where you want file recovery (it does not require installation) and their lunch... and then follow the instructions in the wizard.

You can also run from another system, but in this case you have to autenticate to perform a restore.

I am playing with VDP 6.1 and have backed up the VM. I want to try to restore individual files, but can't seem to figure out how. I am trying to log https://< my applicance POS >: 8543/flr but can not. Should what username and password I use? I get the error message 'failed to connect. You will need to connect to the POS device using a web browser in one of the virtual machines you have already backed up. Use the URL you mentioned and connect with a local OS user invited with permissions of administrator. The steps are detailed in the POS administration guide.

  • Can I backup the files before recovery?

    Hello

If you use the recovery disk to load windows (I have Windows Vista 32-bit) is it possible to save files (photos, etc...) before wiping these files on the hard drive?
I backed up files and cannot access windows for it now... wonder if I can backup the files before recovery?

Any help would be appreciated :)

    Hello

You can try to start Vista in safe mode. Start your laptop, and then press F8. Choose the option to start the operating system in safe mode. At the start of Vista external HARD drive or memory key USB connection and copy all your data here.

I did it three weeks ago. I wasn't able to boot Vista correctly due to the blue screen.

  • Help with my computer! All the deleted files, including recovery! What's past and how to fix it?

Hello. So a few days ago I restarted my computer. Literally restarted my computer (turn off then turn onn) because my shortcuts do not work (the .exe would not launch files). I restarted my computer, and when I click on the shortcut, he said that there was no such destination. Soon I relised all my files are gone. I restarted my computer and you press F8 so that I can back to factory State, but the recovery has not worked and now im stuck at the facility because it looks like this: there is no for files recovery. Idk what happened but all my files and I installed software have disappeared. Someone can you please tell me what happened and how can I solve this problem?

100% recovery does not work! Using the computer in safe mode doesn't work.

My system doesn't have a backup of the files. The files just disappeared. All my files actually including the files for recovery. You say I should reinstall my windows using the CD/DVD. If this is the case, I have a problem because I don't have the CD/DVD for her. The paper in my computer box indicates that you must install it in the computer (deleted files). What can I do?

Your system does not have backups of your files/folders for you.  It is your duty to implement only or not.  If you do not the installer / make backups of your data - so you lose if/when something happens.

(The automatic backup of the system files needed) system restore is enabled by default - but can be disabled by the system administrator.

The "recovery" you used is not a feature of Microsoft or setup - which was created by the computer manufacturer.  They decided that it would be more easy/better to put the backup of the system installation media in the same place the user puts all their stuff - on the physical hard disk in the machine.  It is destructive or not is determined by the computer manufacturer and they even included a choice (destructive or non-destructive recovery) _ at the time use you it.  Each of them has been/is different.

You can contact the manufacturer of the computer and HOPE they always support of recovery for your computer and not you charge (or charge you a large part) to get the media said.

  • POS 6.0 - file-level restore

    Hey guys,.

I have tried the new VDP 6.0 to see if it can replace our backup solution existing and well except for file-level restores.

I managed to get the virtual machine is saved and I know that to make a "level of restoration of files" or FLR, I have to connect to https:// < IP_of_your_VDP_appliance >: 8543/flr of the virtual machine itself.  I would like to know if I can do a restore from another machine as my own workstation?  That would make it a little easier for me or helpdesk guys perform restorations, but I can't figure out how to do this.

    Anyone?

    Nick

Your workstation is a physical machine? Therefore, it is not part of a backup of VDP job. You can use a virtual machine that is included in a backup of VDP job to perform a restore of file regardless level login to basic or advanced. Try to add another virtual machine to the backup job, and then open a session guest virtual machine OS second and try to restore a file from the first saved VM. Keep in mind the guest OS types should be similar (Windows or Linux).

  • vDP file level restore limitations

We test POS and file-level restore feature. We have a file server that is not part of the vCenter with WTP installed so I can't test on it. It has two 2 TB vmdk files that are grouped into a single 4 TB drive in Windows. Documentation of POS said "two or more virtual disks mapped to a single partition" are not supported. Is that what we have going on here?

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2053871

Is that what we have going on here?

Yes, and even if used you a single virtual drive to a partition, you will always be on a scenario that is not supported, because you use dynamic disks.

  • With server 2012 POS file level restore

When I run a backup on a virtual machine running Server 2012 and then try to navigate this image to the file level using the Data Protection restore vSphere Client, I can't do it. I can ride with success and can see the image, but when I try to extend down to the level of the file I can't do. When I get the images running Server 2008 R2 however, I can browse to the level of the files without a problem. I was wondering if there is a problem of compatibility between the Data Protection of restoration of Client and server 2012? Also, as a quick add, I can restore a server running VM 2012 using the full image, so backups work fine on the 2012 VM server. It would just be nice to be able to navigate and file level restore. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

This is probably a limitation around file systems THAT VDP currently support for FLR. Please see page 74 of the VDP Admin guide:

Like you said granularity restore RMAN tablespace (TSPITR) and the database (complete or incomplete). No database object level recovery.

  • transfer of block and file level

    Hello guys,.

What is the difference between file level transfer and

block level transfer? I just know that the network Fibre Channel SAN and iSCSI use

transfer level block and uses NAS file level but I'm not exactly

differences between them. I googled but in vain. I was not satisfied

what I got on google. any suggestions please

    see you soon

Welcoem to the Forums - the difference comes from the days when storage Networks were first being developed - two lanes have been developed - SAN and NAS each storage condition via a network - in contrast to understandthe you understand what command are carried through each network.

SAN - Package, either Firber Channel or iSCSI San, runs a command SCSI causing SAN return the approriate blocks

NAS - only supports two protocols - SMBfor Windows oe NFS for Unix/Linux.  ESX only use NFS. So for the NAS, the command is therefore more a SCSI command but a file system control - when the order reaches your NAS file system control device is managed and the data is returned to your ESX host.

  • File level VMWare ESXi VM for Linux on the RDM partition.

    Hi all

I'm looking and I was wondering if it

is a VM backup solution that is able to make the backup of my iSCSI SAN

in the ESXi local data store, which can be automated with the support of

    file-level restore?

the virtual machine is having a RDM LUN then I may be able to restore a single file where the virtual machine failed or the RDM LUN has been corrupted.

Any idea or suggestion on how to do it please?

    Thank you.

    AWT

The RDM LUN must be in virtual mode to use the program to backup to a virtual environment (requiring a snapshot of VMware to work).

VCB, Veeam Backup, vRanger connection,... can make backup image and image, you may also file level restore.

Or you can try a solution based on instant storage.

  • VDR 2.0 does not not with file-level restore Client

I've recently upgraded to vsphere 5 and vdr 2.0. VDR works well, but the file restore client does not connect to the vdr unit. It indicates that the data recovery service is not running on the device that you connect to. If someone has experienced the same problem or there at - it a new version, if the level of restoration of customer for vdr 2.0 files?

    Thank you!

Yes, there is a new version of the restoration at the level of the Client files in the ISO Image. You can find it in the directory: WinFLR for Windows and LinuxFLR for Linux.

  • Satellite L505D-GS6000 cannot read files on recovery CD

    Hello

Ive been trying to reset my Toshiba SATELLITE L505D-GS6000 and I get to the wizzard of recovery and he said: copying files.

After about a half hour it it comes up with an error message saying: he can't read the files on the Cd.
Is there another way to restore? or I have to pay for the new recovery cd?

    Hello

Perhaps the disc is scratched or the CD/DVD drive laser lens is dirty.
Try to clean the lens of alcohol or cotton tip.

If this is not enough, try to copy the recovery to another disk disc using other computers.
Then try to restore the Toshiba laptop using the new disk created.

If this is not enough, order a new disc.

  • Black 2 8 files missing recovery

    Hi fellow Black 2 owners.

I'm doing a resen on my black Tablet 2 plant, but so, it seems that some installation files missig, so I can't do or refreshment, or reset.

(To be precise, he says: "insert your Windows installation or recovery media to continue")

Previously he has worked, I have not touched any recovery/system partition.

How can I make it work again?

    Thank you

    Thanks Tomas for your suggestions!

I managed to reallocate the recovery location of the image file (in partition 5), with the use of REAgentC. After Refresh option reworked, so it has solved my problem.

  • Ability to save files before recovery?

HP Pavilion dv4-1465dx with a cursor blinking on the boot. Ordered and received recovery disks. Documentation provided does not mention the backup option when you start the recovery process that is found at the bottom of this page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00809678#N673. I'll be able to access the files and save them until the actual process gets underway? Also, will know how much space I need to run out and buy? Or is it possible to connect my desktop via the USB port and backup computer there?

You can start by selecting the type of recovery and then check if yes or no option is available without problems or changes on the hard drive of your laptop. All what you need to do is to carefully observe that the status of guests.

The recovery will not begin until you agree to him.

There is a point at which you are asked if you want to backup your data before the validation of the recovery.

If you prefer to do, you can buy a USB external hard drive or a SIN that has sufficient capacity to contain the data that you want to save.

Use Windows Explorer to determine what capacity should be your new external storage drive.

Your laptop comes with a small hard drive (320 GB) so a 500 GB or external hard drive will be more than enough.
