Restart the computer when changing the channel of live TV
I am running Windows Media Center 2002 Service pack 3 on my computer. The computer is connected directly to the cable (without box) line. The computer is a HP 873n.
I ran the TV setup in windows Media Center, but when I try to change the channel, the computer restarts.
The absence of a digital tuner would cause the reset of the computer? If so, what tuner would be compatible with the computer so I can install it?
You need the Digital Terminal Adapter box that offers to Comcast. You should beable to get free of charge. SeeFriday, November 12, 2010, 03:16:04 + 0000, charipar wrote:>>> Great! Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it!>> Update driver cured the problem. I looked at your link, but it doesn't look like this tuner works with XP. I'll get around. I'm assuming that just because this computer has an analog tuner, it cannot get signal from comcast. I just static on all channels (there no box, just connected directly to the coaxial cable.Barb Bowman

Satellite X 200-line appear on the screen and the computer to stop responding W7
Hello
I installed windows 7 a few days ago. I have download all the drivers, but:
After starting the computer and connecting to windows, if I run an application too quickly (perhaps outlook, google chrome, internet explore explore...), it seems that the pilot does not display (and windows try to restore), and lines appear horizontally on the screen (only have 3/4 left of the screen, the right 1/4 is normal: S). after 30 seconds the screen goes black, and 15 seconds later, a beep comes from the laptop. After that, the only solution is to stop via pressing 5 sec the power :(button
My graphics card is a nvidia geforce 8700 M GT. I have trid the drivers on the toshiba site (but this is for vista, W7 those not released... for this laptop). It changed nothing, so I download them from the nvidia site (one graduate and Beta 1), same result, it has not changed anyting... (I precise that I uninstall all drivers before reinstalling the new)
So, I have updated the bios, nothing better.I read a solution on the microsoft Web site (for example to remove 5 keys register HKEY_USER /.) DEFAUT/control panel/Desktop and HKEY_CURENT_USER/control panel/Desktop), but these keys did not exist on my system, it couldn't be that.
So, I'm in the wall.
Someone has an idea?Thank you

After many internet research, I found an interesting answer, and it was my solution!
On the nvidia site, you can go the archived drivers.
For mine (geforce 8700M GT), there are 179, 185, 186 and 195 immediate release. I have download the 179 (oldest), and... everything works great! My problem is solved.
Hope this will help other people!

colored lines appear on the screen and the computer freezes with W7
This happened several times since I got this computer in December. Lines of color will appear in horizonally across the screen and the computer freezes. After I have turn it off and start it again, there is no problem. But is it a problem waiting for one big from appearing in the future?
If this is a new computer, take it back where you got it because it will still be under warranty.
Could be something from the graphic card, monitor etc. TaurArian [MVP] 2005-2010 - Update Services -
multicolored lines running through the screen of my computer Vista laptop window up and down

blurr photos and texts.seem as if a screen is placed on the desktop. This could be a hardware problem unfortunately (has no module or graphic display error).
Is the problem if you start in safe mode?
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-GB/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
There is a glimmer of hope that it could be a driver problem. If it's OK in safe mode, then it is to try a system restore to a well known date or try to update the graphics driver.

I have an Inspiron 9400/E1705 with a nVidia Geforce Go 7900 GS. A few months as the computer started showing the seeds while I was game (textures does not, massive downturn, etc.) and then finally horizontal began to appear on the screen, from start-up. I was unable to get into Windows with the exception of Safe Mode. I thought that the problem was the graphics card, and some users on this forum have confirmed this suspicion. Although in May 2007, when I was still under warranty, I got the card replaced, I don't was more under warranty at the time so I started shopping around for a replacement.
Before that I bought a replacement, however, the computer just stopped starting upwards. Previously, at least I could get Safe Mode and check my e-mail or Word process; now the screen stays empty (the LCD and an external monitor) and seems not even to try to start. The power and it occupied lights turn green, however, and remain like that until I turn off the power. I tried to boot with a RAM chip, thanks to the optical drive removed, with the hard drive, removed, and combinations of these, just to see if anything would change (anything).
My question is if this can also be a symptom of the graphics card does not, or I have a bigger problem on my hands?
Thank you.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I ran the diagnosis before the white screen began to arrive, and only errors have been associated with the video. I can't run any diagnostic now, though, to see if there are new mistakes, which is why I want to confirm a dead card can do that until I get a new.

Hello, recently my HP Pavilion dv4 has been glitching, theres this thin line at the bottom which is a whitesh and flashes very quickly. At first I thought it was because of overheating because of the summer, but I'm not so sure most since the weather has been kind lately.
Thank you!
I'm sorry but that's the problem with the display panel. You will be able to solve this problem by replacing the display panel only.
If your laptop is still under warranty then please contact HP. How to do?

Satellite M70-339 vertical lines on the screen
Hello...
I have a Satellite M70-339, which will show only the vertical lines on the screen.
I connected an external monitor and booted in safe mode.
I uninstalled the display drivers.
I started to monitor and reinstalled the display drivers.
The computer will now boot up screen.I put the display to indicate to both monitor and screen.
On the monitor, all right.
On the screen, I get vertical lines color, similar to a wallpaper (wallpaper is not pretty).Did anyone has got any ideas what could be the problem, or how to diagnose the problem
Any help would be appreciated.John C
If everything is OK on the external monitor that is the best evidence that this problem is related to the internal LCD. Display must be exchanged.

Tecra M3: black screen on startup, the vertical lines on the external monitor
Hi all
I searched a lot on the Internet for a solution to this specific problem, I have, but did not find a thread
with exactly the same problem. I have a Toshiba Tecra M3 with Windows XP SP 3. Two weeks ago, I encountered problems with the commissioning. After a couple of times to restart it would work. Then it became worse... When I try to run I see no splash... the screen remains black. If I press the power button, I hear the fan and CD player but no screen. It is totally black. I know its working because I can go (blindly) in the installation program. Press end, and then press Y and enter. The computer will restart but still no screen.I plugged it to an external monitor. Pressing Fn and F5 allows switching. The external monitor shows different
vertical lines in multiple colors. They change if I go to settings or you try to start windows.Does anyone have a solution to these problems?
I have fear of solution can be given by the service only.
In my view, this question must be tested properly.I can't say for sure, but to me that sounds like a technical question. Without testing you will know for sure what is the problem.
Here on the forum we can only speculate why this happen. As you can see on notebooka? s LCD problem. On external it doesnâ? t properly work as well. It may be a faulty graphics card.
Try to contact the nearest authorized Toshiba service and speak with the technician. -
Qosmio G30 - white lines on the screen and BSOD
1. I have a Qosmio G30
2 operating system Windows XP MCE
and I have problem "white lines on the screen ' when windows start to load after that I got the"blue screen of death"and restart the computer.
I try to get back, but unfortunately came with the laptop recovery CD doesn't seem to work...Whenever I finished to recover I have "windows loading files" and once this is done, it shows me the so-called "blue screen of death"...
Hello
I m afraid. I have bad news for you ;(
I think you ve you have a problem with the hardware in my eyes, there might be something wrong with the GPU chip.
The white lines on the screen could be related to a faulty graphics card and get the BSOD error due to a hardware malfunction or software serious questionsI m sure that the recovery CD does not contain software problems and therefore only the fault of hardware could be the reason for the lines on the screen and the BSOD.
In my opinion, you should contact the ASP in your country for assistance if all goes well you guarantee is valid.
Good luck

Satellite A75: Permanent vertical line on the screen
I had a Satellite A75 for about 1 1/2 years and a few weeks ago a thin line from top to bottom on the screen. The line appears as soon as the power comes on and is constantly when the computer is turned on. The color of the line depends on what should be the color of the screen. If the screen should be black, the line is green and if the screen should be white, the line is light purple. And all the rest.
I think it's probably something wrong with the screen itself or the graphics card. Does anyone have ideas on how to determine the cause of the line and what it would take to fix it?
Jon
HI jon,
The normal test to identify this type of aberration of the display is to connect an external monitor to the laptop. Then if the problem also appears on the external monitor, it's a fault with the graphics card. If the problem does not appear while the fault lies with the LCD display itself.
My personal feeling is that the LCD is likely to be at fault, but any authorized service center would be able to test this for you.
Kind regards

Satellite Pro A210 - repeat vertical lines on the screen
I hope someone can help me.
I am a teacher and was bought by my school a Toshiba Satellite Pro A210 for me to do my school work and connect to a SMART board to teach with. Throughout its probably one of the best laptops I got through school. I got it two months.
There is only one problem with it. Its developed a rather weird problem. Occasionally, the screen suddenly freezes, and the display will be replaced by thin, alternating vertical black and white lines. The only way to get rid of them is to turn off the laptop and restart it (particularly annoying when it happened in the middle of a lesson when I've been respected by an OFSTEd Inspector!)
Technician computer school has no idea what is the cause. I was wondering if someone here might have some advice.
Thanks in advance.
I ve the same laptop but I didn t receive similar lines on the screen.
What you could do is update the BIOS and the driver (if possible) display. If the same problem happens again, you must connect an external monitor to the laptop.
Then check if the same lines appears on the external display. If so, then a problem of graphics card might be possible!

One of the remedies for a graphics card problem, is a re - weld made by the

Blue vertical line on the screen of the Qosmio G20
A few minutes ago, I was surfing the web and from nowhere share an apperead to the blue vertical line on the screen.
A blue vertical line near the middle of the screen and crosses the screen all the up toward the bottom. If I'm looking at a white background, the line is undetectable, but if it is colored, it comes right thru.
Please don't tell me they are dead... hoooo pixels... I am now, life away from any toshiba repair shop and I get a guarantee...
I think that I bought 3 years ago. Need urgent helpHey Susana
I wouldn't say it s a lack of dead pixel, but to me, it looks like a more serious problem.
It looks like a malfunction of the graphics card. But to be sure, you should try to connect the external monitor to the computer and check if the same vertical line will appear on the second screen. If you're going to see the same line on the external monitor, then I assume that the question of the vertical blue line might be linked to the GPU fault.
This could be the case value because the chip graphic card cannot be replaced. You need to replace the whole motherboard :(So, as you see it s not easy to solve this problem and I really recommend to contact a technician who has more experience with these laptop problems.
Good luck

HP EliteBook 8440p: white horizontal lines on the screen who retreat down in the minute
Hi again. I've already posted about this so there are pictures and a full description of my post a few days ago. In short, when the laptop was arrested or sleep for more than a few hours, it is white horizontal lines on the lower part of the screen that slowly fade completely down. The lines do not appear on an external monitor in dual mode.
I removed the screen twice now and checked / reinstall connections to the screen and under the keyboard. The problem persists. I flashed the BIOS a few days ago and the problem persists. The webcam, microphone and WWAN/WLAN are all in perfect condition and the computer works fine apart from this problem of screen work.
Until I drop the most money on this used laptop that is my only question at this point sounds as strictly a matter of cable/display on the screen? If it's a motherboard problem I would see other problems? If it is the graphics card goes wrong I would see other problems? As I said, the computer works perfectly once it is running.
Anyone has any useful ideas?
Hello
You can try to connect this unit to an external monitor to check if there is a problem with the motherboard or display
If the external monitor works fine, then there is no problem with the motherboard, only the display panel needs replacement.
If the problem persists in the external monitor, suggest you to update the graphics drivers and see if the problem resolves
I hope this helps

I had to restore my system to an earlier date and after I did I wasn't able to use the system shortcuts to do anything. Once I got online, don't know exactly how it happened, I copied a URL and put it in a document, so I could use it to get online.
