I saw the answers to this question if you have Internet Explorer 6 or 7 but NOT for the new verion, 8. I tried following the steps to fix for older versions of Solution Explorer, but it did not work and I still get the same message error "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. "I AM the administrator, even if my son also share the computer. This error message just started a few weeks ago, and today I go to Internet Explorer 8. Original title: URL links in emails & documents do not work. The documentation I get the message, "operation is canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer". How can I raise thise restrictions?
I have Windows XP and IE8
I recently downloaded the free antivirus software and later noticed that I would receive no response when you click on the links in the email. Then I noticed the links in docs do not work, but clicking on generates a message that the operation is cancelled due to restrictions. Based on the calendar, I suspect that this free software, which seemed very aggressively to make changes, caused the problem.
Links IE8 work very well.
Don't know what this restriction is or where to look to eliminate it.
Jim
Cameron,
The link you sent me did not work; but they sent me an another prgm MS (MicrosoftFixit50191.msi) that solved the problem.
Thank you, jim

Original title: link stop "restrictions in effect on this computer.
All of a sudden when I try to click on a link in an email that I get "this operation was cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. Well... I am the system administrator and I have no idea what is the cause. What is a windows problem or a problem of office?
Bruce,
See my post on 1 December. None of those links gave me an answer that worked. I found a Geek forum that works. I now can have all three browsers installed IE9, GoggleChrome and Firefox. I like the last two because IE9 periodially breaks down and the others did not. In addition, Chrome is faster for some things like the control off site to purchase.
