  • Linux distro with which it would work on Satellite A100?

    Hi guys,.
My laptop is Satellite A100-011 and im having problems to choose a working linux distribution. I tried SuSE 10.1, SuSE 9.3 and Knoppix 5.1.1 but none of them doesn't work. Respectively - the first takes too long scan the system, the second goes down while the installation program is running and the live cd knoppix couldn't even managed to load - an error (although I don't exactly know it)
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    Hello!

You can try Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn. Installation process is quiet easy (but be careful with partitioning, because the default schema can erase the disc). You will not have problems with wifi, because the distribution of a native Intel drivers for your card. If the sound card is compatible with SoundBlaster, must be nor any problem with this, and if not, there are some howtos to turn the sound on the wiki of Ubuntu (Kubuntu is exactly the same system as Ubuntu, but with KDE instead of Gnome preinstalled). Ubuntu repositories contain nVidia drivers too.

Oh, the installation of Kubuntu program sometimes has problems with partitioning manual, but installed on partitions already prepared (for example using another distribution Setup) is a nice solution for this.

    Good luck! :)

    Kind regards
    Orzech

  • Is there a preferred Linux distro that works with the unit?

I run Win 7 x 64 host, probably the most common OS on the planet at this time, I tried 4 different versions of Linux (as a guest) and none work in Unity mode. I tried Mint-Mate, mint-cinnamon, mint Debian and Ubuntu. Each of them fail in one way or another. It seems a bit odd that VMWare offer even a function that does not work.

I found Mint Xfce works very well

  • What distro Linux with Satellite A200-10W

What linux distro for use with my laptop A200-10W, which works out of the box (with Nvidia 7300go, wifi and Blootooth)?

PS. Anyone have experiences with FC8?

    Thank you for luka

HM, it's hard to say that EACH linux works out of the box. I'll try Ubuntu (the latest version is something with 7. XX) that runs on a Tecra S3 at my home. Some things don't work (sensor for fingerprints, etc.) but most of the stuff (the material) works perfectly Yes, it s upwards will work you system.

Download from ubuntu.com and start a live CD. You will see how the live CD manages your system, but I think it should work.
I suggest you to register on some ubuntu forums... you will need. :)

    Welcome them

  • If you use firefox for linux, I'm unable to open the game client for a called flash browser game darkorbit.

I'm using Linux Mint 17.2 xfce.
The Firefox I use is 42.0 Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint Mint - 1.0.
    Shockwave Flash is 11.2r202.
The browser Flash game is DarkOrbit ( www.darkorbit.com ).
The game was working fine until about 2 months ago.

I log in the game (as before) and get on the last page without any problem.
When I click on 'Start' to go to the game client, the screen is black. The browser tab written game client will blink twice.
Please note that everything works fine when I use the chrome Web browser.
DarkOrbit works very well with Firefox on Windows.

Is there a way to use the pepper Flash used in Chrome/chrome using the freshplayerplugin wrapper.

Your Linux distro may have related packages for it.

Alternatively, you can use Chrome or chrome for that one site and use Firefox for everything else.

  • x 360: delete the recovery partition after installing Linux

    Hello

My x 360 laptop with 10 Windows works fine. I just installed Linux dual boot (w. Windows 10) on three new partitions. The scores are as below. E, F, G partitions are Linux.

    I have these questions please:

    1. is the recovery partition (D) no longer, now that I have partitioned the disk? (I did a recovery USB flash drive when I bought the computer)

    2. is it safe to remove the recovery partition (D)?

    3. There is also a small partition of 980 MB. What is c? Is it safe to remove?

    Thank you

    YCC

Sorry, no.  You can not recover by using the HP Recovery partition after you change the partitioning scheme.

As it is now, you might as well delete it.

It will not hurt to remove it now because the HP Recovery works doesn'y work in any case.

I know Macrium Reflect can backup and restore Windows and Linux distros because I have tried it, myself.

    Good luck

  • Update firmware on Satellite A200-1gh - noise emissions under Linux

    Hello

I have a serious problem with the sound on Toshiba laptop. Many people have the same problem I have.
    An example:

    ________________________________________
    Hi there everyone
straight to the point, I got no sound running ' bt3 beta computer laptop - Toshiba satellite a200 - 14 d, HD audio - Realtek ALC862 @ Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M - audio. I tried to fix it with a blender Kmix or alsa, even downloaded the Realtek driver name and installed, but bt3 built in Realtek driver. Still nothing"
    ________________________________________

My laptop contains this sound card: 00:1 b. 0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801 G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) @ Realtek ALC861-VD. There is a problem somewhere in the firmware of this map or the Linux kernel.

We use Backtrack 3 who is Slax based Linux distro.
I've been with many professional talking about Linux, Bud, no one is really sure what is the problem. They said several things to try; one of them is updated firmware. I've never done this before, I'm looking for help.

Number of exact model of my laptop is Toshiba a200-1GH psaece

    Please help if you can

    > There is a problem somewhere in the firmware of this map or the Linux kernel
What are you talking about boyfriend? This firmware of the sound card that you hear?
    I think you're confused.

First of all there is NO firmware for the sound card. Second, the sound card is controlled by sound driver.
Always is it that Toshiba laptops are preinstalled with Windows OS.
Linux is not supported at this time, and you won't find driver for sound card for Linux.

If you need a sound driver for this sound chip, you will need to download it from Realtek Web site!

That s all about your firmware to his mysterious map.

  • What Linux on Toshiba Satellite L300D-10 has

    Hi all.

I have this notebook "Toshiba Satellite L300D-10 a" and I can't install any distro linux on it. Recently I have updated the BIOS to version 1.50 and now I am able to install Debian and PCLinuxOS, but again, they do not work as they should work. No supported wireless without ACPI support, can not put comp. in hibernate or sleep etc...

Can someone tell me if there are any linux distro with which it can work with this model without any major problems?

    Thanks in advance.

    I tried Ubuntu?

  • How to create the dual boot with Red Hat Linux and Vista on Satellite A200

    Hi all!

I have a Satellite A200 pre-installed with vista home premium and I would install another OS that is Red Hat Linux Fedora Core 7.
Can someone advice me how do? I'll be very grateful to receive your answers. Thanks again!

Well, I put t use this Linux distro on my laptop but I used the Knoppix Live CD and it was very easy.
It was not necessary to install anything. I simply booted from the Live CD and I could use the full Linux operating system.

So, it might be better to use this Linux live CD instead of the complete installation.
I think that the main problem would be available to the driver.
The fact is that Toshiba does not support Linux on laptops and so Linux drivers are not available.

  • How to install linux on Qosmio G20-120

    Hi all.
I tried to install some linux distro in a new qosmio g20. Only knoppix 3.8 and 4.0 CentOS have some chance to install, the other distributions can´t recognize the hd or dvd (on Ubuntu), but the distributions that have installed the Hd become unstable, can´t stop, if I do because the hd is not collapsed shutdown, can´t, etc... Someone tried to do? Any chance to install linux on this notebook?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

It's always a problem with Linux as the OS is not supported by Toshiba. In this case, you're on your own.
