Linux

Hello. Sorry for the question. But... What is the best Linux OS on this thinkpad model (z60m)? I tried to distributions, but I have would be a distribution that is able to use all of my material.

Thank you

Davide

Display the model number of 7 characters of your Z60m would help us to identify the involved hardware...

As a general rule, Z60m is quite similar to T43/R52 when it comes to hardware, and that's what I run on my T43s all:

I hope this helps.

    1. I have sensory problems and need to disable more animation and more still of the blinking cursor. 2. I have problems of coordination/proprioception and need to disable the touchpad gestures and listen; This required a patch kernel in Ubuntu, which meant running a non - lts version, which meant not being not able to use the Ubuntu repositories after support missed. One option is to use refined and a full install. It's intimidating. I'm done with installation of Xubuntu broke at some point because it crashed while it was installing. Another option is to use VMWare Fusion or Parallels or an equivalent Mac of Wubi.

One of these options would allow me to access my files from Linux? Those who would work with my lack of experience and power limited processor programming limited disk space?

    Thank you.

Yes, I would say that all VMs are options to save money, I would try to go with oracle virtualbox, it is free I use osx to run a Windows 10 and machines virtual ubuntu it allows me to access the files across, although you mind a program under osx, maybe not 100% safe to use the same format as the same program under linux so that could cause a problem if this is the case.

  • How to run the file executable python for linux on mac?

I have an executable file coded in python. I can run this program on linux but not on Mac.

Do you have any idea how to run it please?

    Thank you.

Python is available in the Terminal, which provides a unix command-line environment.

Some python applications may need to be recompiled to run on Mac. You should maybe download and install Xcode Tools to get full access to all the compilers and related tools.

    Shockwave Flash is 11.2r202.
The browser Flash game is DarkOrbit ( www.darkorbit.com ).
The game was working fine until about 2 months ago.

I log in the game (as before) and get on the last page without any problem.
When I click on 'Start' to go to the game client, the screen is black. The browser tab written game client will blink twice.
Please note that everything works fine when I use the chrome Web browser.
DarkOrbit works very well with Firefox on Windows.

Is there a way to use the pepper Flash used in Chrome/chrome using the freshplayerplugin wrapper.

Your Linux distro may have related packages for it.

Alternatively, you can use Chrome or chrome for that one site and use Firefox for everything else.

Regular distributions Linux versions may be supported for a few years more or less Long term releases of the same or other Linux distributions support there.

The drawback with the LTS (like Ubuntu with some versions) versions, is that they tend to use older packages more stable vs using the most current set.

Older versions LTS which are always supported by distribution may not meet required minimums to use the current version of Firefox for example.

  • Since the update to Thunderbird worm. 41 it is fixed as the preferred application for browsing the web in Linux Mint 17.2?

What could be the cause of Thunderbird to set as the favorite in Linux Mint 17.2 browser client. If I reset it to Firefox, the next time I open Thunderbird, it still resets the preferred setting Thunderbird client. When I open Firefox, it pops up a window saying that this isn't the default browser, asking if I want to change. When I click Yes, any link I clicked in Thunderbird previously will now appear in new tabs.

    How can I fix it?

Linux Mint just put update to Firefox_41.0 + linuxmint2 + rafaela and now Firefox works fine with Linux Mint.

    Firefox 40.0.3 (Linux version 3.19.0 - 26-generic (buildd@lgw01-05) (gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu 4.8.2 - 19ubuntu1)))

Start Firefox (by a shortcut or command line); window opens, but has only the title bar, more buttons min/max/resize. Tried to click blindly, without response. Same thing with "firefox-safe-mode" and "firefox-preferences". Shortcut keys seem to work on the blank screen; for example Ctrl-N still produced a vacuum. 'firefox-private' gives an empty window, but with the correct window title ("you are now browsing... (' etc).

I tried completely delete $HOME/~.mozilla and $HOME/.cache/mozilla/firefox, but that makes no difference.

Very inconvenient. Cannot use FF at all in this State. [Display NB from another machine altogether; ignore the version data and the plugin below]

It was very good work. Play well.

  • Download Firefox for Linux without Adblock and other extensions

I have a problem downloading of an adapted version of Firefox for Linux to run on a Knoppix Live DVD system, for use in the trial publishable extensions I developed under Windows. (This isn't a development question extension, however, just a problem downloading and the FF configuration properly).

I was surprised as the current (FF40) and anterior (FF34) version for Linux come with 3 extensions installed permanently - NoScript, Adblock Plus and FoxyProxy Standard. They apparently cannot be uninstalled, even if they can be disabled.

I read online in various forums that Adblock Plus is a hog memory and that she, in particular, as well as NoScript, may adversely affect the values with legitimate code on Web sites and extensions. I also read complaints from users who disable Adblock Plus does not remove all its effects.

During my tests I had problems that I thought were the result of Adblock Plus, so I turned off and restart the browser. The situation is greatly improved, but there are still some problems that may or may not be related to the shortage of memory.

The question is this: I want to download versions 'clean' FF for Linux without these extensions part 3 installed, for more conclusive tests, but have not found a way to do it.

I'm also curious as to why these extensions are 'forced' on Linux users. (I hope that never happens on Windows, or I could become a less committed user of the FF).

Firefox any version for Linux, Mac OSX and Windows www.mozilla.org or www.mozilla.org/firefox/all doesn't come with all Extensions.

You already had these extensions installed in Firefox profile, you use with Firefox.

All three of these Extensions are by a third author (s) and not by Mozilla.

  • FF does not start yesterday; running Linux Mint 14 in VirtualBox; updated to 39.03

Since yesterday, Firefox does not start when I click the icon. There seems to be some activity, but the window never opens.

I use the version of Linux Mint 14 in Virtual Box.

In the terminal, I tried firefox-safe-mode

    I get:
"Error: platform version ' 39.0.3 ' is not compatible with
    minVersion > = 39.0
    maxVersion < = 39.0

I would appreciate help with this.

PS Since I can't start Firefox data below is not the version I have the problem with.

This is the latest information that I could find on the version of hotfix for your version of Linux:

I understand that Firefox will not start, please also see these troubleshooting steps:

  • When released the new version of Mozilla Firefox for Linux.

Whenever I open the browser, it continues to display the message that is earlier than the version of my browser.

But I cant Update since its not released yet for Linux.

Do not wait for the new Version to be published
Other than that, the browser is fast and easy to use

You seem to have the provided version of Firefox 35.0.1 Ubuntu

You can get the update of Firefox 39.0 of in on your distribution package manager or you can get Firefox from www.mozilla.org or www.mozilla.org/firefox/all

If you choose to mozilla.org , sure it is 64-bit as 32 bits will not run unless you have the appropriate packages.

Mozilla does not updates for versions of others, including the packages provided by Linux distributions.

I made an update to 17 of the Mint, after that I have only 3 tabs on the tab page. I can't add more . Is this permanent?

Why Firefox reduced the number of tabs on the tab page? He was 9 at the beginning of the page, now only 3.

I would like to at least, so mobile 12 can have this why not safe?

    Thanks

Hi, I'm not familiar with Linux, but this does not work in Windows, so it can help to point you in the right direction: you can change the number of tiles on the new tab in the zoom Page forward or back.

You can also keep the same zoom setting when a new tab is clicked: Type Subject: config in the address bar, press ENTER, accept the warning, scroll to browser.newtab.preload and double-click on it to change the 'value' of true to False.

It is also possible about: config to change the maximum number of tiles, scrolling to the browser.newtabpage.columns (or Rows), then right-click > modify to set a new number of 'value '.

As an alternative, you might like to try the add-on new tab tools.
