List of files actively used hard

Hello

My environment has several clones that have not been deleted, and because of our naming conventions is not always obvious which machine is actively used, I don't want to try to recover a virtual machine and eventually recover an old clone by mistake.  The only place I've been able to find the final location of the actively used virtual machine is by changing the properties of the virtual machine, emphasizing the disc 1, and then display the location of the vmdk file.

Is there a faster way to get this information for all the virtual machines residing on a host before migration?

Thank you.

Hello

Select the--> storage data views store--> show all files of Virtual Machines. Here you can see all the files that are connected to the virtual machine and the active state.

For example - I have saved off the coast of a set of files to my HD to a CD and I'll give it to someone.  I would like to include a printed list of the included files.

    Here are four ways:

    1. go to a command prompt and run the command

dir [drive: folder] > c:\tempfilename (you can use any name and put it in any folder of your choice)

Then open Notepad, open tempfilename and print from there.

    2. write (for example, in Notepad), a text line 1:

    / DIR %1 > LPT1:

Save it as 'printdir.bat' in the folder ' send to '.

Then, to print the list of files in any folder, right click on the folder and select send to | Printdir.bat

To include subfolders, set up the command DIR %1/O/S > LPT1:

  • In Vista, it is possible to find and replace a specific name that I used many files on the hard drive?

My apologies if someone already asked this (I couldn't find the answer however). I used the name of a person to dozens of (mostly Word) documents that are kept in many different files on my hard drive. I know that I can dig each document separately and then use hidden word and replace the tool to change the name. But this will inevitably take time. Is it possible to do a through - computer find and replace so that I don't have to do this exercise once? Any help gratefully received. Thank you.

  • lost all the images contained in the "my pictures" file on the hard disk while using Windows Live Photo Gallery

I lost all the images contained in the "my pictures" file on the hard drive.  The files are there but when I open the files they are all empty. It's like some 50 folders and each folder contained about 25 or so images jpg. I lost the using the "windows live photo gallery» I found a thread that someone else has had this problem and only one answer was to check the checkbox 'Show hidden files'. I have done this no luck there. When I open "windows live photo gallery" all records are on the left of the window but empty. I did not send any of these files to the "trash".  Can someone tell me how to recover these?

You ran the scanner of MS too? It will take some time, but it must be done. If a virus is responsible for it must be nuked before he can ravage any more.

Send all the pictures? You can still recover these - and get some help course in order to avoid this sort of thing. External hard drives and online storage are worth a small spending to protect valuable files. I also keep the dvd - outdated image files but enough fix if even they can deteriorate over time (but don't we all!)

Let us know if the scan MS lands anything - run the full scan - it will take time.

    Best - R

  • best application to use hard drive information

I need to wipe my hard drive MacBook Air that's why I can back up my cell phone. Right now I am getting an error indicating the system could not saved the iphone because there is not enough space on my computer. I have cleaned a lot of unnecessary files and apps, but I'm still having problems. Can anyone recommend an app that will break down it for me so I can see what is to eat most of my hard drive?

    Thank you.

At some point, you will want to get an external storage device.   After the back if you do and you will allow the secret to make it useful by itunes.

Caution when you delete files. A lot of people trashed their system when deleting things.

Placing things in the trash. Restart & run your applications. Empty the trash.

Go after large files you created & know what they are.  Do not remove the small files that are located in a folder that you don't know what the record is for. All that is less than a megabyte is a small file these days.

    (1)

Empty the trash.  Space is not reclaimed until you clear it in three places.

    The trash...

    -in the dock

    -for iPhoto

    -with Mail

    (2)

    Run

    OmniDiskSweeper

"How simple and fast to save disk space.

    OmniDiskSweeper is now free!

    http://www.OmniGroup.com/applications/OmniDiskSweeper/download/

This will give you a list of files and folders sorted by size. Go after things that you know are big.

To show all files, you must open a session for each user on your system and run OmniDiskSweeper.

Or you can take the more risky approach using the root account to get read/write access to all files on your system.  Be careful removing the wrong file, your system will be trash.

    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper

  • As I was deleting some files from my hard drive, I came across some files that I couldn't remove with a message saying remove wite protection.

As I was deleting some files from my hard drive, I came across some files that I couldn't remove with a message saying remove wite protection. Help!

This error indicates that an application is using this file at this point here. If you are unable to remove it, restart your computer and then try to delete it.

IF YOU ARE NOT SUCCESSFUL WITH THE above METHOD, THEN TRY to USE UNLOCKER, a free application that disables the application using the file that you want to delete.
    Download unlocker from here-http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/
Click on the above link and click on download the newer version on the right side of the screen.
Download UNLOCKER from the link given above and install it. (you may need to restart the computer)
Right-click on the file you want to delete, and then click unlocker.
A new window opens showing all applications using this file.
Select all files, and then click on unblock.
Now right-click on the file you want to delete, and then click on remove.
YOUR FILE WILL BE DELETED SUCCESSFULLY.
If you are still unable to delete that file and unlocker shows no application, then follow these steps-
Right-click on the file you want to delete and click unlocker.
    A small window will appear.
In the drop-down list, choose delete, and then click ok.
Your file will be deleted on the next reboot of the system.

How to export a list of files that that are in an excel file or a text document? Preferably excel.

    Thank you

    Tom

You must have the directory you want the list on your hard drive (not a network share even if a mapped drive may work?

Files should be displayed in the format of details in the directory.

    (1) type cmd in the start menu to bring up a prompt back
    (2) use the (for example) "cd C:\Users\BobJones\Desktop\New folder" command to navigate to the folder in question
    (3) use the command "DIR > doggy.csv ' to create a file named doggy.csv in the same directory that you open directly with excel. Nothing looks much lik that it happens, but you unlike find the small file as expected.

  • How understand you what vdmk files are used by servers?

I inherited an esx/esxi 2 cluster system. Vdmk files are stored on a San. The previous sys admin was a bit sloppy with data warehouses and I'm trying to compile a list of files used vdmk so I can remove the vdmk which are not used. The problem however is that there are many vdmk stored files by folder on server. The only way I know used recovery vdmk (in vSphere) is to modify the parameters & gt; material & gt; hard drive that shows the disk file. It is, however, completely unreadable (grayed out) because of the length of folder of the server and the fact that the server is on. How should be done to find what vdmk files are used by a server turned on without turning it off?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Check out the free RVTools.  The tab vDisk will give you the information you are after.

  • My files on the hard drive are getting corrupted?

I use the model of MacBook Air 2013 Yosemite running. I have a Seagate BackPlus 1 TB drive to NTFS. And I use Tuxers NTFS on my Mac to read and write files from NTFS devices. Lately, I'm sloly from knowledge that my files on the hard drive are getting corrupted. When I try to open any folder I blocks until I have remove my hard drive. I lost some files like this. Now, they are completely inaccessilble. The big sone files show even ehen 0 bytes, they are around a GB or something. I start out freak because all my data is in this hard drive. 1 TB of data. Its my life is locked in it.

Is someone can you please tell me what is happening with my hard drive?

    Thanks in advance...

Is someone can you please tell me what is happening with my hard drive?

Probably not. The problem you are experiencing is almost certainly that the drive itself has failed. It could have also been caused by third party software that you use to support a formatted NTFS volume. Isolate the cause to one or the other is probably not an effort worth it, because the files themselves are probably already damaged and unusable. In this case the only alternative to certain to succeed is to restore from a backup.

As you know the Mac FAT32 and ExFAT supports and can read, but not write - formatted NTFS volume. For this reason, if you ask the Windows compatibility, you must select ExFAT.

You could try using the third-party data recovery software, even if success is not guaranteed. I can offer no specific product recommendations.
