List of supported maps of CUDA (CS5)

Adobe is working on a reading and rendering engine for Adobe Premiere Pro called engine reading Mercury. This new engine is accelerated by GPU from NVIDIA®, 64-bit native and designed for the future.  Native support 64-bit allows you to work with more fluidity on HD and higher resolution projects, and GPU acceleration speeds up processing and rendering effects.

The Mercury playback engine offers these benefits:

  • Open projects faster, refine rich in effects HD and higher real-time resolution sequences, enjoy scouring sweet and read of complex projects without rendering.
  • See results instantly when you apply color corrections and multiple effects across many video layers.
  • Work in real time on complex timelines and projects of long duration with thousands of clips — whether your project is SD, HD, 2 K, 4 K, or beyond.

Make sure that your system is ready to take advantage of the Mercury playback engine in a future version of Adobe Premiere Pro. The Mercury playback engine works hand in hand with technology NVIDIA® CUDA™ to give you performance surprisingly fluid and in real time. See it in action

Now that the launch is made and this information is all public, I will summarize all the bits of information that have been circulating in a distilled position:

The Mercury playback engine consists of 3 areas (our chief weapons are surprise, surprise and fear... so bad...):

-support 64 bit and better management of memory / cache management framework / sharing between Adobe applications (first IE after effects & the Media Encoder have a notion shared memory now and are aware of how much is consumed by their peers);

-optimizations to multithreaded rendering, pipeline of playback, speed improvements with various types of media and all around General tuning

-CUDA accelerated effects / transform / pixel conversion routines.

Don't have a Council CUDA support?  You always get two out of three.  May not seem as sexy on the cover, but CS5 is still a massive improvement on CS4 even without hardware acceleration.

(On the other hand: I would like to dispel the myth that you can drop in a Council of CUDA support in any box and you get magically I don't know how many layers of RED 4 K real-time.)  All that CUDA is free the CPU of tasks to perform the processing of the image - video sequences must however still be decoded by the CPU.  If you are looking for high quality 4K, treat yourself and don't cheat you in a box of bullshit.  Get an i7, for Cryin ' out loud... but I digress)

Now, why the choice of the limited map?

One of the biggest themes was to improve stability and make first really earning the nickname of Pro.  To quote another engineer, "it was a decision about being Pro."  By limiting the choice of cards, you have a guarantee that the product will do what it is supposed to, that your accuracy of rendering will be as good as in the software, and these cards can be read with I/O 3rd party providers.

What is the difference between the level of functionality, I receive with the GTX 285 vs Quadro cards?

The GTX is limited to 3 real time streams.  Also, the Quadros come with more memory, so it helps if you are looking to make the edition (for example, RED) - RES. Finally, as a set of playing cards, GTX cards will downclock themselves if they are overheated, so your performance could fall if your air conditioning is not the best.  The Quadros OTOH have a fixed clock frequency, assumingly they have better heat tolerance levels.

When will expand this selection?

TO BE DETERMINED.  I can only say that we look at some of the maps Fermi next-gen, but they are still being evaluated.  Let's see him that this way - the beta user group is still ongoing so that they can help test the new Platinum support in the future.   Keep your ear to the ground, I don't know there will be a lot of noise when they are released.

You can add me to the beta list?

Nope.  Not my field, I'm afraid.

What's the scoop with cards ATI and openCL?  Why nVidia / CUDA only?

When the work of the acceleration began a year & a half, openCL was not even a finalized specification.  CUDA is a more mature technology, that's what we went with.  For the future? She will be evaluated for CS 6.

  • Why K5200 Quadro card from Nvidia does not appear as a map taken in charge for after effects CC 2014? It is listed as supported for first Pro CC 2014.

I am putting together the specs for a Dell workstation that I use to make Adobe CC work, including video with After Effects and Premiere Pro. My computer expert worries that the card Quadro K5200 I want to have the system is listed as supported for Premiere Pro CC 2014, but that it is not listed as supported for after effects CC 2014. Are there problems of compatibility with this card and EI?

    Thank you!

I enjoy the conversations of the sidebar and it's valuable information, but I'm really hoping to hear from Adobe on why this card is not listed, supported by the AE.

Oooh, I can answer this too!

Development and release of the CC, they do not work with the rendering engine raytraced we did at all (except in the align each version for compatibility reasons), so no more cards have been (or is going to be) tested and added to the white list.

It may be a bit before someone with the official logo of has is available in. This is a user forum. We are grateful that Adobe people push their heads in many (seriously, gets it the AE Forum is a lot of love by considering how tiny the AE team), but sometimes it can take a while so that they appear. (Especially if some of them are on holiday). That's why they have people like us; We cannot have has, but we have M, V and P

Speaking of the integration of C4D: when I recently visited the offices of the Adobe team, I must have a look at some of the new technology, they are working on future versions. I am very pleased of the future development of the AE. The lines between 3d and compositing are really starting to fade. Some of the things that currently lack us (expressions to control the animation of models C4D, for example) will be addressed.

Now, if you plan to do a lot of work in 3d which is most often the titles and that sort of thing, I think looking at the 3d or 3d Zaxwerks Invigorator element. Latest version of the item makes it extremely fast given it's beautiful, it can look. It's amazing, really. (And it uses the GPU!)

Under column SUPPORT, it is mentioned for ATI and NVIDIA "Legacy support" and the "full support".

What is the difference in "Legacy support" and the "full support"?

I am not able to understand

    Vinay

To repeat and rephrase the original response:

Premiere Pro uses OpenGL to accelerate the writing of pixels on the screen. This is not new. It is therefore referred to as a "legacy" feature

Premiere Pro uses CUDA to speed up the processing of some effects. It's new. This feature is part of all of the features of performance known under the collective name "Mercury playback engine" ("EMT").

  • Video export with CUDA support map does not

I have a GTX 580 using PP CS6 and I'm trying to export a video of 1 hour and it is said that it will take 10 hours! I have CUDA enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel and Mercury Playback Engine activated in PP CS6. However, when I export a video and watch gpu usage it shows 0% and my cpu is at 100%. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the help,

    Casey

The acceleration of the EMT is used on playback and export mainly to set the scaling, interpolation and some effects. The encoder of 3rd party, only that I am aware of that uses for encoding acceleration is utility of Cineform. However, will not import an Adobe project. Media Encoder will give you the best performance at this stage export projects first.
