Local printer port not restored on reboot of Windows 7

Windows 7 64 bit

I have a (SnagIt) program that allows me to print images on a virtual printer (SnagIt). The virtual printer using a local port; C:\ProgramData\TechSmith\Snagit 10\PrinterPortFile. I can generate the Local Port (devices and printers; Printer properties; Ports; Add Port; Local port); However, restarting the printer is offline and the port is missing. I have to manually regenerate the port whenever I restart. Any suggestions on why it's not being saved/restored?

Hi Rob,

Looks like a 3rd party software can cause a conflict with the virtual printer information record.

I offer a clean boot environment to create settings to check if they are after reboot:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

I checked on the website of SnagIt and they offer only a few resolutions and not really information about the use of the printer with the software.

Here are the links that I found of them that you can try:

Error: failed to add the SnagIt Printer (18)

My printers do not work after installing SnagIt

If this does not work, you may need to contact the support SnagIt.

  • Win 7 remote desktop and Local printing does not

I cannot using the network printer locally when I use remote desktop to connect to a Vista computer.  Tab resources for RD, I checked the printers.  The only thing I can understand is that my local network printer, not directly connected to my machine.  Whenever I try to print over my remote desktop session, I can not access my local network printer.

I installed the printer drivers on the remote computer and when I try to locate the printer, I get the following error message: "Windows cannot connect to the printer.  Print Server Spooler service is not running... "but the spooler service IS running Board.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I spent a few hours on this one and am at a loss at this point.

UPDATE: I tried to connect my printer to the local USB port this morning.  Still would not work.  I get the same error of queue.  The drivers are not corrupt, as others have indicated may be the cause.  They work very well on my system locally with 7.

I also found a post elsewhere that he issue 'sharing permissions' and 'network permissons' setting to resovle the spooler error.  Still no go.

Help, please.  I really need to print locally.

I finally have figued try after four days and many hours on the phone with Microsoft.  Microsoft said it was related to my router settings, but I didn't believe it because the remote computer has seen my iPhone very well when it was connected locally.  After just playing, here is what I found... it was pretty basic!

On the remote system, when you try to add a 'local' printer, it has a drop-down list with a list of local ports who sees your system remotely.  Some of those who will be on the remote system, but others will be on your local system.  Take note of those that are visible on your local system.  In my case, LPT1 was not visible, but was COM3.

Then, on your local system, in the settings of your printer works (printer, Ports tab properties), there is a checkbox indicating "Enable Printer Pooling."  When you check this box, you can select multiple ports on your local computer.  Here, you must check the box that shows your remote system (in my case, this is COM3), but make sure your exisitng port is checked as well as (in my case, an IP port for my wireless router).  Basically what you do is on your local system, you are pooling your installation existing printer with a port that can be seen by your system remotely.

Then, on the remote system, install the printer drivers, but do not select a port.  Then go to printers and add a printer.  Select 'local' facility for whom and when asked for the port, use the port that you checked in the previous step on your local system (in my case, I chose COM3 on my local system).  Select your printer from the list.  It will ask you if you want to use the existing drivers... say Yes.  Print a test page to make sure it works.  Worked fine for me.

I can simply not believe how obvsious this solution has been!  If the remote system is unable to see the port that you are using currently, pool your configuration with a port that he can see!

If it's not compatible, it is not possible but you can try to install drivers vista in "compatibility" mode

To install in compatibility mode do the following:

  • How to remove a local printer port, or change the printer driver associated with the port

I added a printer local port \\MACHINENAME\PRINTERNAME to respond to a printer that is connected to an XP machine on my home network.  There is no driver for my printer (HP OfficeJet v.40 or V-series), so I tried to install it with the Officejet D series.  Well, the test page did not work.  I deleted the printer via the Control Panel, but apparently the local port does not remove. I can't add the printer again, I can't delete it, and I can't change the driver.  So I'm stuck.

  • HP Photosmart Premium All in One printer will NOT work to satisfaction with Windows 7, HP has been disabled

Windows 7 is causing problems with photo printers?  I had so many problems the photosmart HP printer wireless installation.  Whenever it has been installed, the next time I arrived, he would say "cannot find printer.  Best buy told me to NEVER install wireless immediately and later another told me that Windows 7 seems to have problems with wireless printers.  Called HP, they wanted me to install new drivers and then I got fatal errors to try this.  Finally, they had a legal person of HP contact me to tell me that the fatal mistake had to be caused by the problem of WINDOWS 7.  I had to restore to the day, I bought the computer, which was fine because I didn't really have anything worth saving, just a few documents.  When I did, everything seemed OK but I tried to scan a picture and there were points on this subject.  I scanned the same photo to another computer not windows 7 and without stains.  New HP denounces Microsoft Windows 7... saying that it doesn't have the same problems as Vista did, but a WHOLE NEW CLASS of problems.  Why are they not being found and fixed by Microsoft problems?  It's so frustrating, I abandoned and resumed the printer at Best Buy.

SOMEONE DOES HE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR PHOTO PRINTERS WORKING ON COMPUTER WINDOWS 7?  IF NOT, PLEASE SHARE WITH ME WHAT PRINTER/SCANNER, YOU HAVE, I WANT TO BUY A SIMILAR ONE.  I won't buy another HP for what, the customer service was poor, 12 hours on the phone and nothing has been resolved but blame Microsoft.  Life is too short.

Have you tried the printer connected directly to the computer to see if it works correctly? This can help to identify what you need to solve the problems.

Manufacturers of devices, in this case HP, are responsible for providing drivers for their equipment work. However, the end user is responsible for installing the drivers correctly. In most cases of printer drivers must be installed without the printer is connected to the computer and only connected and turned when prompted by the installation program.

Also, during installation it is recommended to close all unnecessary programs that are running before installing drivers, and once installation is complete, make a restart.

I have three printers on my system - two, a Canon Pro9000 and a HP DeskJet 970Cse printer (about 10 years) are directly connected to the main computer and have never had any problems. The third, a Brother color laser is connected through a network and is running smoothly. I do not use all-in-one printers and have a separate HP scanner.

Depending on the type of team service geek places are concerned, you would be better to go to a computer repair shop and to solve this problem for you.

  • HP Pavilion M7 - WiFi lights not after a reboot. -Windows 8

Hi everyone, I just reinstalled Windows 8 and I am very frustrated with this little problem.

I downloaded the Realtek Wireless LAN driver from the HP website. I installed it. After installation, the WiFi works automatically. Now, after a reboot, the WiFi does not start upward. Everything is up-to-date, I checked in the Device Manager, and I even reinstalled the drivers. It does not just straight up. Everything on Windows said I need to physically turn it on.

Any help? I can't believe that I can't use the built-in WiFi. I currently use a LBS-Link USB WiFi adapter which worked well in all of his application since he came home.

    Squerl,

    Welcome to the forum.

First of all, you can try a Power Reset, which does NOT affect data on the disk.  The power / Hard Reset can help if the problem is in the pilot instructions that are stored in the computer's memory and persist to boot at startup.

    Resetting the forced feeding

Performing a Hard Reset or forced Reset

Power reset cannot tell the difference between drivers - it does not analyze a driver before applying.  It assumes that all the drivers on your computer belong there.

    EXAMPLE:

    • If the driver on the disk is the wrong driver before rebooting, it's always the wrong driver after the reset.
    • If the INSTRUCTIONS of the driver are tangled, messed up, or there are missing pieces of these instructions, the reset can solve the problem.

Why a power reset works to solve some problems:

The power reset does not install anything on your computer, it does not remove the programs on your computer and Reset does not change the settings on your computer.  Your data and programs remain as they were before the reset has been applied.  Reset runs old program of the memory instructions and forces the computer go to disk operating system for new instructions.

Why a power reset does not work:

If the problem is more than a simple tangle, if 'good job' on the computer is not good enough - in other words, you need an update, a new driver, or there is a problem that can not be "unraveled", then reset won't work.

If there is a hardware problem power reset will not work.

    ==============================================================================

Then, you can set the properties of the LAN driver to allow the driver to "wake up" the computer.   At the same time, you set the driver to NOT allow the computer to stop the driver.

    Windows key + X > M (opens Device Manager) > network adapters >

Right click of your wireless adapter > Properties > Power Management >

    Select as appropriate:

Clear the check BOX "Allow the computer to turn off this device...". »
CHECK 'Allow this device out computer' > *

    Ok

    * NOTE

Read the warning on the wireless driver performance while the notebook is on battery.

Remember that this setting CAN have side effects.

  • Lexmark X 8350 printer will not work on the new Windows 7 computer

My new computer has Windows 7 and I can't get my Lexmark X 8350 to work, I tried to download a driver of Lexmark and it does not work.  I called support for PC World and the person said that I would need to buy a new printer, but in this day and age that's just seems stupid.

    Hello!

Do not connect the printer to the computer with the usb cable. Try to uninstall all Lexmark software from your computer correctly by clicking on the Windows logo start menu > programs > Lexmark Series folder > tools > uninstall. Restart the pc. Also, check if your Windows 7 is running on the operating system 32-bit or 64-bit by clicking on the Windows logo start menu > right-click on computer > properties.

Now, there is no driver Lexmark X 8350 specific for Windows 7, however, the Vista driver works. For the software, go to this link: http://bit.ly/cK7w07 (for 32 - bit) or this link: http://bit.ly/9pAWzM (for 64 - bit). Download and install the software. Follow the instructions. I hope this helps.

  • Canon Image class 6530 printer does not work on 64-bit Windows 8

Need help or a download to make my printer compatible with Windows 8.

    Hello

    (1) have you tried visiting the Canon website to download and install drivers printer 6530 class Image for Windows 8?

    (2) what version of Windows 8 work?

To find out if the computer is running 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows, try the following steps:

un) Press Win Key + x. click System.

    b) under system, you can view the system type.

If the program is specifically designed for the 64 bit version of Windows, it will not work on the 32-bit version of Windows. (However, most programs designed for 32-bit version of Windows operate on 64-bit Windows version).

You can try to download the drivers from the Canon Web site and try to install the same.

If you would like more information about the printer driver, you can contact Canon for help,

  • Unable to install printer, can not find the folder c:\windows\system32\drivers can anyone help im new to computers. Thank you

nothing other than follow install wizard interrupted because usbprint.sys msg

All of the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder is missing?  If this is the case, I don't know how your system boots.  Otherwise, look for usbprint.sys in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ServicePackFiles\i386 if you are running an Intel-based system.  Look in \amd64 so it's an AMD based system.  You can also find it in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache.

The easiest way is to copy (but you will have to do it in safe mode).

The best way is to use the System File Checker (SFC) by using the "sfc/scannow" command from the run (start-R) menu.  Note that this requires that you have your Windows XP installation CD and the CD for your current Service Pack level.  Note that you might have trouble with the Service Pack CD-ROM will be accepted.  Read KB900910 if this is the case (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900910 ).  This procedure should work for Service Pack 3, too.  (I think that the biggest problem with the CD of Service Pack incompatibility is that Windows Update installs a multi-language version, while most of the CD are unilingual and therefore have different product IDS.)

  • When adding port local printer 'access denied '.

I have a home network with 5 computers. All share the same working group. All the impressions of a Canon MP500 attached to Vista64 host area. Defined as a private network with print sharing wide open. My XP system is able to connect and print as a printer to network very well. My laptop Vista32 cannot. Seems to have problems with applications hanging. Which leads to "the application is not responding do not. When I delete the printer network problem disappears. When I try to set up as a local printer and add a local printer port and select the name to be 'the \\computer name\shared printer name' I get an error message "access denied." Have tried everything. Having two versions of the printer driver loaded on the host Vista64 box. One for 32-bit and one for 64-bit. When the Vista32 laptop is connected directly to the printer, it works fine. Dell wants to charge me $125 just to talk to him.

    (PII removed)

    Hello Prabha,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

    1. Do you have an error message when it is not detected? If YES, what is the exact and complete error message that you receive?

I understand that the USB device is not detected by your computer. The question may arise if the currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or damaged or if your PC requires an update for problems that could conflict with a device USB and Windows. This can also occur if your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt. So, I would suggest trying the following steps and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

Please try the fixit (s) provided below which will help you solve common problems associated with devices and USB ports.

If method 1 does not work, try Method 2.

    Method 2:

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers.

    1. Open Manager devices by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click system and security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. In the list of the categories of equipment, locate and expand Bus USB controllers.
    3. Right-click every device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
    4. Restart the computer and let the USB controllers get reinstalled.
    5. Plug in the removable USB device and test to make sure that the problem is solved.

If the problem persists, go to method 3.

    Method 3:

Disable USB selective suspend framework. This method prevents your power off USB device.

    1. Click the Start button, type power management in the search box, and then click choose a power plan.
    2. Next to your currently selected plan, click Change Plan settings.
    3. Click change advanced power settings.
    4. Click in the box USBsettings, and then expand the USB selective suspend settings.
    5. Click on the area, and then click the menu drop down and select disabled.
    6. If you use a laptop, click the cell, and then click the menu drop down and select disabled.
    7. Click apply, and then click OK.

If your problem still exists, go to method 4.

    Method 4:

This method will install the latest drivers from device to your USB device.

    1. Click the Start button, type Windows Update in the search box, and then click Windows Update in the results pane.
    2. Click find updates. When the scan finished, click optional review updates.
    3. Click the check box next to the update, and then click install updates.
    4. If you are prompted, read the license agreement, then click I agree.
    5. Follow the instructions on the screen to download and install updates.
    6. If you are prompted, restart your computer.

More information: Update a hardware driver that is not working properly

If the device fails after updating the driver, you can try to roll back the driver with its previous version.

Restore a driver with its previous version

Hope this information is useful. If the problem still persists, please post back for further assistance, we will be happy to help you.

    Kind regards

  • Cannot add the new printer port for Central Output Server 5.7 under Windows Server 2012

I am my output of an old Windows box to a new server migration and have problems with the new ports.  I have 6 installed instances and the last looks OK, but all the others get errors when all output is sent to them, even a Windows Test print. I have them all the same thing, with the format \\.\pipe\jetform\server5 configuration port

When I installed the software, I installed all 6 instances then went through and added 6 local printer ports - it seemed to configure them OK this first time.

My test was then on the 6th and last instance and went well.

When I wanted to test the other forums, I found all simply erroneous jobs on the queue for the printer.

If I have one of these printers connected to the 6th port, it worked fine.

I deleted one of the ports that did not work and I tried to re-add. Then I got the message "the system cannot find the file specified."

I tried to add the port via the registry - he added, but would not yet print.

Then I noticed in the output server control center, when I tried to stop Central and start one of them, I got the error "unable to connect to the channel named"\\.\pipe\jetform\server5.ctr"

I use a domain account that is configured to run Adobe services, he is a Director of field with all required fees

I modified the local security policy to enable users to add printer drivers.

And I have now run out of ideas! Someone at - it a?
