• I would change my download directory, but the option is grayed out. Can I fix this?

  I have no trouble to change the download directory in other browsers on my computer, e.g. Safari. I've attached a screenshot of my Firefox preferences's general tab. I just noticed in the "Troubleshooting Information" attached to this question page that includes "lockedPreferences" "browser.download.useDownloadDir": false...» Rather than emphasize that it is the problem (if it does), please help me to understand why it is like that and how to change.

  Check if there is a present mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox application to initialize some prefs.

  It is also the presence of a .js (JScript) file, probably in the folder "by default/pref', which specifies to process this mozilla.cfg file.

  If there is .js files apart from the file prefs.js - channel, which affects app.update.channel, in the default/pref folder, then open this file in an editor such as Notepad (Mac: TextEdit) and please publish his content.
  Also, please post the contents of the mozilla.cfg file.

  It should not be a mozilla.fcg file that is located in the main Firefox folder unless you have created yourself to initialize some prefs.

  If you have this mozilla.cfg file so the best is to do a clean reinstall, and move the Firefox application folder to the trash before reinstalling a new copy of Firefox.

  In the meantime, follow the steps below.
   
  Step 1:
   
  There might be a possibility of a conflict of software of third party causing the problem to occur. Test/work around this problem, you can check if the problem persists in aclean boot State.
   
  Step 2:
   
  If the clean boot does not resolve the problem, perform the System Restore as Lorien has pointed out to the point where the .jpg files were not intoxicated.

• my pictures have been restored after fakealert virus, but now are grayed out

  All my docs and photos disappeared as a result of I think the fakealert virus. I ran exe mcafee stinger and it restored all my docs. My pictures appear, but are dimmed. When I try to open them, I get a message error that says 'other folders exist. selected locations contain pictures to preview. Other folders or files exist but cannot be previewed"in Picture Manager.

• Subscription of Apple's music, but the songs of the artist some are grayed out. Why?

  Hi, I am subscribed recently to Apple music that supposedly gives you access to anything whatsoever in the iTunes music store, but I came across a large number of titles by artists who are grayed out.  Not in my main library, but in iTunes Radio, and if I add tracks from my library, they are still grayed out.

  I active iCloud and I disconnected and returned but that only fixed not.

  

  Can someone explain this?

  Tracks greyed out are not available for release and cannot be added to my music. I presume that the holders of these titles gave no permission to use Apple.

  I just upgraded to Win 7.  I have not configured all users, so I'm administrator.  Many items are grayed out.  For example: Advanced - tab printer properties all items are grayed out.  I want to update the driver for my printer and I would like to print directly to the printer instead of the queue.

  I'm happy that things are working now.  You're not bad as I had feared.

  In Windows 7, the built-in account named 'Administrator' is hidden and disabled by default.  It can be turned on... but you shouldn't do it unless you have no other options.

  Although security experts have long recommended that you should not use an account with rights 'administrator' for everyday use, in fact, most people ignore this recommendation.  Therefore, in Windows 7, same accounts that have administrator rights work not normally with these active rights.  If you use a 'Standard user' account, when you need the administrator rights, Windows will ask you for the name and password of an account "administrator."   It's a good idea to create a ' rescue' account with administrator rights.  In this way, if the account that you use every day becomes corrupt - and this happens from time to time - you can connect to your administrator account to spare and fix things.  Refer to the instructions in "workgroup" here--> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-7

  The guest account is even more limited than a standard user account.  Microsoft says: "people using the guest account cannot install software or hardware, change the settings or create a password. Because the guest account allows a user to log on to a network, browse the Internet, and shut down the computer, you must disable the guest account when not in use. "Following this advice, the guest account is disabled by default in Windows 7 (although, unlike 'Administrator' it is not hidden as well).

  ASP.Net account was most commonly found on XP machines and are linked to .NET Framework version 1.1 Microsoft.  If you upgraded from XP to Vista to 7 (or perhaps from Vista to 7) the account could have been washed away along the upgrade.  If not, you have probably installed a very old program that was built using .NET Framework 1.1.  Take a look at control panel > programs and see if you have installed Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1:

  I have a home with 4 PC network - one of them is running Windows 7 Home Premium (with homegroup disabled) and others running XP Pro.  The XP machines is called 'Server' and the server and the computer services browser running and set to automatic.  Two other computers, called "Notebook" and "Dell", as well as the machine Windows 7 have no file and sharing printers enabled and have specifically the Server service is disabled.

  My problem is that one of the two XP client machines cannot access the working group.  Let me be clear about this: I open Windows Explorer and click on "My network places"-> "entire network"-> "Microsoft Windows network", there is then a second 5-10 break and then my workgroup name is displayed.  When I click on the name of the Working Group, there is another ~ 10 second pause and then I get a message that says error " is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions.  A device attached to the system does not work. ', where is the name of my group to work for other days, after some of the computers are restarted, I find that the XP client has absolutely no problem with that; but the other now has this same problem.  In other words, the problem going on between two XP clients.

  Let's analyze: I have Windows on all PC firewall and any other firewall program.  I tried to disable the Windows Firewall and my anti-virus (temporarily), program without effect.  This may not be a problem with the way I've set up my actions because the error occurs when I try to click on the task force rather than a shared resource.  This cannot be a problem with a specific XP client because at different times, each of the two PCs worked perfectly without any changes of configuration made between the two.  It could be a problem with the server settings; but I don't see what it could be.  I tried editing

  HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters and changing

  IRPStackSize from 21 to 45, then 50.  I also tried to change the size of 2 to 3.  I restarted the server and the client XP and had no effect.

  I don't have the same account of user configured on all three machines.  However, this cannot be the issue because the problem occurs when I click on the task force, before the server name is still displayed.  In addition, each of these two XP clients have connected with their existing user accounts at times.

  I tried the Wizzard of configuration network running on all four machines, without effect.  I tried a lot of things, most of which I can't remember.  I'm at the end of my mind.  Help, please.

  Thanks for the continued support.

  By the advice of IPCONFIG, I looked at the registry for all computers and found EnableProxy wasn't there.  According to the documentation by default to 0, which is what we want.  However, I added it to all the computers and left it set to 0 and restarted the computer.  The node Type still said 'unknown '.

  the article talks about Windows 2003 Server and none of the symptoms mentioned relate to this situation.

  The "network adapter advanced troubleshooting for Windows workstations" is on hardware troubleshooting.  I think that it's probably not a problem because the computer has no trouble to access the internet, which is not possible if the card network are not working.

  I went through the AutoCorrect entry to reset the TCP/IP stack, even if the article describes symptoms such as difficulty to access the internet...  And...  THIS MARKET!

  After re-booting, the PC that was in trouble can now access the working group.  All other PCs can always too (have not tried to restart all over again).  AWESOME!  I can't thank you enough!

  I re-post if the syptoms happen; but for now, we can consider this issue RESOLVED.

  Yesterday, I downloaded the updates from Microsoft Update. I use Vista 64 bit Home Premium on a Toshiba laptop.

  I don't see the network icon in the taskbar.

  When I right click on the taskbar, go to properties, Notification area tab: I see that Volume, network and power are grayed out. I can't select them. The only I can change is the clock to turn on or off.

  Is there something I can do? No one else has used the laptop. Thank you.

  It works again. Sometimes this happens and I don't know why.

  I used my computer. I turned it off and now the missing things are back.

• MASTERED OPTION IS GRAYED OUT WHEN YOU TRY TO BURN A HOME PC PREM BRAND NEW VIRGIN DVD + R ON VISTA 32-BIT

  Due to virus I had to rebuild PC using the RECOVERY partition on hard drive. All windows updates have been applied to date (August 2011). Before the virus problem (July 2011) WAS able TO SELECT THE "MASTERED" OPTION WHEN YOU are GOING to USE WINDOWS TO BURN a VIRGIN DVD + r. NEW once AGAIN, this WORKED BEFORE, NOW THE MASTER OPTION IS GRAYED OUT.  I have a brand new DVD + R blank and tried several of them thinking it was the disk (I've used this same brand (magnavox) DVD + R 4 years now never this problem of the "controlled" option is grayed out.) I use the same DVD burner which came with the PC and it allowed me to select the option "Mastered" last month (July 2011). I am using Windows HomePrem 32-bit OS (originial system that came with PC and this allowed me to select the mastered option last month. I applied all the updates Win at present. I have no other problems with the PC. Once again, driving the nail: this WORKED BEFORE, last month on the exact same hardware and the software/OS (Juillet2011), then why this option appears GRAYED out now?  This question has been asked before and 'experts' simply stressed totally USELESS MS pages showing how to select either under control or direct - I DO NOT NEED THIS HELP as I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO SELECT either option and what each is for. Also the other 'fixed' DOES NOT APPLY to this situation.   What does this message mean? I get when I click on the icon to evaluate files on another of our computers. "You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found. »

  The other computer has not been configured to allow remote access to this folder from your account.  You'll want to go to this other computer, right click on the folder that is shared and go to properties, then set the appropriate security settings to allow access.

  Original title: cannot add homegroup printer

  Cannot add printer homegroup.  I tried everything I can think of without success.  I have laptop which is part of my home group who can't create a link to a printer attached to another computer.  The search for the printer does nothing.  When I try to add manually, when I click on the computer that hosts the printer, I get the following:

  "[Computer SCIENCE] is not available.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.  The specified network provider name is invalid.

  The problem seems to exist in the computer on which I am trying to add the printer, not the host, as I was able to add another computer to the host without problem.
