Using a System Restore Point should not affect the files that you have created.  They should always be in the same folder where you put them.

Chances are you need a codec... the following free utility
can identify the codec used to create an AVI file:

    Download GSpot

    (left-click the text: "Download GSpot")
    (on the next screen...
    left click: 'Download [GSpot 2.70]')

There is a possibility that you need the XviD codec:

No guarantee, but it might be interesting to try to download
and install one of the following codec packs:

  • While trying to read, a video, I get a message 'Windows Media Player stopped working' and cannot continue

    Hi Michaelgdr,

    1. the problem occurs with all videos?
    2. What is the file format of you play it?

I suggest you to reduce hardware acceleration for windows media and (if supported) graphics card player

I suggest you to make Windows Media Player as a default player.

You can also change the hardware acceleration and check.

Try to reduce (or turn off) video hardware acceleration by doing the following

    a. open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, and then, under appearance and personalization, clicking
    Setting screen resolution.

    b. click Advanced settings, click the Troubleshooting tab and then click change settings.

Note that some video card drivers do not allow allows you to change the settings.

    c. move the hardware acceleration slider toward none to reduce or turn off video hardware acceleration.

    Hi DragLee,

Windows Media Player is the default or integrated drive in Windows Vista. It can't be uninstalled or reinstalled. However, if a system file is missing or damaged, we can run sfc (System File Checker) scan to find and fix system files corrupted.

Try these steps and check the result.
Step 1: Scan of the sfc
    1. open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
    2. type the following command and press ENTER: sfc/scannow
3 restart the computer once the analysis is complete.
    4. check if the problem persists.

    For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Step 2: If the problem persists, perform the system restore to a date where the media player was working fine
    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.
    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.
    4. click on finish.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

  • Information on the media for my songs are listed correctly in Windows Media Player

    Original title: Windows Media Player

My songs in my Media Player are all wrong, for example, the title of the album is 2Pac, but the song is actually 3 Doors Down, I tried to update media information and pretty much everything else I see. I was going to uninstall the media player, but I can't in my list of programs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I tried to add songs on my mp3 player, but the list of my reading, it's not that load on my mp3 player. I'm extremely frustrated!

I'm not sure this will help, but it's how his 'uninstalled and reinstalled' as far as you can - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/26107/how-to-reinstall-windows-media-player-in-windows-7-to-solve-problems/ basically, uncheck, restart and re-checkmark it.

Theres also some options in the Troubleshoot utility which may help.

in 'search' of type 'help' (without the quotes).

In the results, click on troubleshooting.

    Click on programs

And look at three convenience stores of WMP to see if they help.

  • Downloadded video-not of sound. Windows Media is unable to play the video. What should do?

    How to solve the problem?
Do I have to upgrade a different version of Windows 7 was updated or Ant / or download change help?

Here is a list of formats THAT WMP is supposed to support - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992/en-us

You can try the usuals of media player which peuvent help, they take no time to try, such as:

1 if you have not already done so, try to uninstall and reinstall media player - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/26107/how-to-reinstall-windows-media-player-in-windows-7-to-solve-problems/ and executes all the trouble shooters in search type "Troubleshoot" (without the quotes) in the answers click on "Troubleshooting" click programs and run convenience stores Media Player.

2 if still no joy, then go to MSFixit http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/?wa=wsignin1.0 and see if all the FixIt Media Player seem to correspond to your mistake and solve your problem.

    3. If still no joy, try to run a SFC/scannow to see if it detects and fixes all the problems - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html option 2.

BUT, its probable meanings don't help, so:

You could try a codec pack that peuvent help. But I had a similar problem on my W7 Stater WMP would not play sound for videos MTS of my camera. Video was OK, just no sound.

I downloaded VLC (other alternative media players around there) for free and installed.

It worked for me, so I set as default player for this video format only.

Welcome to the community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question. We need additional information to provide the best solution:

1 have had any changes made to the Windows Media Player settings?

    Try these steps and check:

    Method 1:

If your computer has problems to access your collection of digital media files in the Windows Media Player library, try to use the of the Windows Media Player library Troubleshooter to fix the problem. The troubleshooter makes sure that Windows Media Player is installed correctly on your computer and checks if the Player library is corrupted.

Open the troubleshooter in the Windows Media Player library

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows7/open-the-Windows-Media-Player-library-Troubleshooter

    Method 2:

Windows Media Player automatically organizes files in the Player library according to the media available for the files.

Change how you display items in the Windows Media Player library

  • No video, only the sound in Windows Media Player

Hello. Out of nowhere my videos stopped playing in Windows Media Player and I get sound. Most show a static of a frame of my video picture, while others display the icon by default windows media player. In both cases the sound plays normally but no mobile video!
All videos play perfectly (both video and audio) in Windows Media Center, however I prefer to have them play in the drive by default as they did. I did some research online and tried a few things, but nothing worked and I'm hesitant to download codecs that can be harmful.  Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

When you tried "System Restore" to what extent did you go back - it was automatically a restore point, or before the updates, etc. have been installed?

The pictures in Windows Media Player folder is the same folder of images in the Windows libraries. If you click on the file icon in the taskbar and select pictures, your images should be there.
