LSI20320IE + PV124T (LTO3) + Win2008R2 + PE2950III

Hello

Does anyone know if this combination works properly? I've read some horror stories about the drive is detected but not the changer, etc.

Need drivers for the card or Win2008R2 them installs by default?

Is necessary to use a card to Dell or a non - LSI OEM works the same?

Sorry for all the questions!

Thank you!

UPDATE:

It turns out that a shorter SCSI cable happened today, and I changed the cables. Well what do you know? IT WORKS NOW!

W2K8R2 sees the changer (as unknown changer) and BE2010R3 sees the changer now, no problem. The two magazines are enabled and it works like a charm.

Lesson learned: don't forget to check the cables before you start pulling your hair.

Thanks to every Chorus.

Then I did p2v of old machines Debian/AMD64, that works perfectly.

Then, I wanted to try my luck with Win2008R2. I had read that my CPU probably would not support this guest operating system, but I decided to try and they install fine, but they are incredibly unstable and lock up quite often.

Bascially,: the performance is so bad when you perform an initial installation developer that I shudder to think of what it will be like in normal use. You name: copies of the host is slow, running installs it variety takes an eternity, but the classic is when I installed windows 2008R2 x 64 has taken more than 6 hours to format the 80 GB drive, copy files across and complete the installation.

I do this on a labtop to 2.2 Ghz AMD Turion X 2 recently acquired running Windows 7 Ultimate.x64. I have 4 GB of RAM and the usual WIFI Attheros. First of all, I chose VMWare Server 2.01 because it supports USB2 and 64-bit, instant clients while Virtual PC 2007 does ' t.

    Hello

I have a PE 2950II and I want to upgrade Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 with the active Hyper-V role. The EP 2950II is compatible with Hyper-V 3.0?

    DELL PowerEdge 2950 II:
    -Bios: 2.7
    -CPU: 1 x L5420

Do you know if I can start on a 'Hyper-V Server 2012' livecd to test the goal?

    Thank you.

It brings together all the technical features for Hyper-V, so there should be no reason it wouldn't work.  Server 2012 is not officially supported by Dell, but there are reports (including clean Tech Center from Dell guys) it works great (although not specifically Hyper-V).  In fact, it works still fine on an old 2850 (under Hyper-V, like the 2850 does not support VT).

There is no 'live cd' available for Windows (server or standalone).  Hyper-V would be very difficult to 'test' in a 'live' in environment.

    Hey Ralph,.

4.2 of the ACS is touched by it.

It does not support 2008 R2.

ACS 5.5 is not affected by this upgrade.

    Hello

I'm working on updates of databases Oracle on Win 2008R2.

To reduce downtime and get fast relief application provider suggested to install a second database and simply use datapump.

11.2.0.1.0 to 11.2.0.4.6 migration went well.

But the second is really nasty.

  • vSphere 4, win2008r2 and alignment sql2008r2

    Hello group,

I wanted to check what I read.

We create a new virtual machine to host a sql server server and I wanted to make sure that I understand what I read.  Is it true that I don't have to do anything about alignment?  The use of vsphere when the vmfs LUNs is created with the VI client will automatically align the FS?

In addition, new MS Windows 2008R2 operating systems automatically align the guest OS?

I'm looking to make sure that I have to make the right choices here before you start.

For the bottom, we have a farmer 3 Server with Dell R710 servers and a Dell MD3000i SAN with 15 SAS 15 K 600gig readers.  The san is divided into 2 groups-8 raid in raid 10 disks and 6 drives in raid 10.  The remaining drive is spare.

Thanks for your ideas.  Also, if anyone can instruct me on how to confirm the alignment is set correctly it would be appreciated.

You are right, there is nothing to do about the alignment of drive with Windows 2008 (R2). However, for SQL Server, Microsoft recommends to format the NTFS partition with a unit size 64 k. see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd758814 (SQL.100) .aspx

  • Types of discs DC Win2008R2 best practices...

    Hello

I am trying to upgrade my AD environmental to 2008R2 victory, and I ask for feedback on best practices for the selection of the disk type and the parameters of the virtual machine.  I intend to install new scratch and transfer AD ads and much more thereafter.

I intend to create a volume of 50Gb for the OS itself and a 200 GB volume for departure records and other data to the user.

In a virtual environment, it is adviceable to locate the sysvol and AD database in a separate location other than the default system drive?

For my 50 GB disk OS (domain controller), is this normal / good practice to store it with its virtual machine?

My drive 200 GB of user data should ideally be able to reassign to another VM intact to keep the data in case of failure.

Which drive 'provisioning' would be normal to use with these types of discs?

What disc 'mode' (independent / persistent) it would be normal to specify in this scenario?

When such a virtual disk is created, is it possible to increase / decrease its size?

Thank you very much for the comments on these issues.

    Best regards

    Tor

    Hello.

In a virtual environment, it is adviceable to locate the sysvol and AD database in a separate location other than the default system drive?

Yes, follow the same best practices as you would in the physical environment here.

For my 50 GB disk OS (domain controller), is this normal / good practice to store it with its virtual machine?

Probably yes.  Why would you consider storing elsewhere?  You do something with SAN replication or y at - there a reason?

Which drive 'provisioning' would be normal to use with these types of discs?

I tend to use thin for the volumes to the OS.  For the absolute best performance, you can go with thick-eager discs set to zero.  If you're talking about data sharing standard file for users, then all disc types would probably be fine.  Check it out "[study of the performance of VMware vStorage Thin Provisioning | ]. "[http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vsp_4_thinprov_perf.pdf]" for more information.

What disc 'mode' (independent / persistent) it would be normal to specify in this scenario?

This can depend on how you back up the server, but I guess you wouldn't use not independent.  If you do, make sure you use persistent, you do not want to lose user data.

When such a virtual disk is created, is it possible to increase / decrease its size?

The increase is very easy with vSphere and 2008.  Very easy, and it can be done without interruption.  Shrinkage is a more convoluted process and will most likely require a manual intervention and downtime on your part.

    Good luck!
