M18x R1 - video card problem / upgrade suggestions

So, it all started with a referenced BSOD, atikmpag.sys error

I got my R1 m18x for nearly 3 1/2 years and is the first BSOD I had ever seen, so I was a little worried, especially because it would be only in safe boot mode. After a lot of troubleshooting and running the diagnostics available, were found the following error message:

Error code: 2000-0332 Validation: 52847

Test video memory integrity gap

At the end of the day, I wiped everything to factory settings but things were not always works well so I went with a complete reinstallation of Windows 7 Edition family and cobbled together to make it work again with the completely disabled AMD 6970 M (although still plugged) and using the integrated Intel graphics card.

I was not able to understand what is the Validation code, but given the problems, I guess that the graphics card is shot. Can someone confirm that? And if there is some kind of obvious solution that I have not yet tried to solve this problem, I'm all ears (or 'eyes' in this case).

And if the shot - which I suppose that this is what is a good upgrade/replacement? There's a load of information online about possible replacements, but I would really like to hear m18x R1 owners who have direct experience with replacements/upgrades. Ideally, I would like to upgrade to a more powerful graphics card to extend the ability to play in the future without having to tinker with / upgrade to other aspects of the laptop.

Full system specs (to the best of my knowledge and before turning off the AMD 6970 M):

Hello

We recommend flashing the latest Bios system firmware if you haven't done so already, click here for the download link for the Bios. Try to run the ePSA/Diagnostics test again and if you keep getting the same error code, then you may need to replace the video card.

Yesterday, I bought an Inspiron 660 and I bought an EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti - 2 GB Superclocked video card to upgrade from the integrated Intel HD graphics card already in there. I got my computer and then to Best Buy to pick up my card only to find out when I cracked the open Inspiron 660 food had no additional power cable! So, I can't start my new card! I am very disappointed, my old Dell Dimension E510 had manipulated and additional power cables my XFX GeForce 8600 GTS very well! Why this model that is supposed to be more recent, faster and better would not address this EVGA GeForce GTX 550 it? Is there anything I can do to remedy the situation before I have on factory reset and return this piece-o-junk?

Is there a 500 Watt electric and cable someone recommend me?

Here are a few suggestions.   GTX 550 it should take only a single PCIe 6-pin power cable.  However, all these two have.

Inspiron will usually just come with the 300 Watt power supply in the mini towers.  You must go to the XPS line for larger power supplies.  Video cards are now more energy efficient.  Maps of the past who had need of connections do not today at certain levels of performance.    There are a lot of cards today that will be better than the old 8600 GTS which requires no power connections.

  • Problem upgrading the h8-1409 HP Envy video card problem

    Hello.

I just bought this machine and it has a good processor and ram good, but it comes with a card missing video (HD7570).  I want to upgrade the video card at one of the best maps I have of my old machines (Gigabyte GTX 660 ti and an Evga GTS 250).  When I install one of these cards but, I get no video output.  I can hear the initialization of the system and the hard drive works, so everything seems fine here.

This machine comes with a 460W power supply, which should be enough to run one of these cards, but no go.  In order to exclude food, I tried on a secondary market, OCZ 600W PSU, but got the same result.  Two cards work in my old machine, so I know that the cards are good.

The specifications of the main Board are here:

    http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/document.jsp?objectID=c03132942

As far as I know, it should work.  Is there something I'm missing?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

Only use one video card in your PC and make sure that it is installed in the PCI-E x 16 slot.

Boot in the bios (ESC and F10) and go to security topics. Try each of the topics and search a secure Boot Configuration.  If it exists, then see if Secure Boot is disabled.  A poster said that secure boot disabling enabled the installed video card. I have not tried this on a HP active UEFI motherboard but I know that it isn't a problem with another mother UEFI card that I use.  Your mileage may vary.

  • Looking to update my video card without upgrading my power 250 Watt on my Pavillion 6837c

Looking for suggestions as to what would be a good update on the cheap card I recently added 14 GB of RAM so the thing is fast enough, that I would like to just the films to be a little more transparent, any suggestions? Thank you! -josh

    Joshua, welcome to the forum.

Any video card that would work with your power supply (PSU), be much, if any, better than the integrated video.  New middle level cards require at least 350W to 400W power.  Therefore, if you don't want to upgrade the PSU, I recommend staying with the integrated graphics subsystem.  In fact, the problem is to find a card that works.  Manufacturers do not give the requirements of power on their lower level cards.

If you decide to improve the PSU, I like Corsair and OCZ.  That would give you many more choices of cards.  I love EVGA, Sapphire, XFX and PNY in that order.

Note: Remember that your system is not as good as the weakest component.  With the CPU and memory that you have a better map would greatly increase performance.

  • HP A735W - video card problem

I tried to install an AGP eVga nVidia 7300GT video card instead an ATI cardin my older A735W Office.

After you have installed the 7300Gt AGP slot, I pulled the PC without hanging the molex cable 4 pins on the new map 7600 (it would not be reached). Start-up went normally and once over my office, the screen went black and it restarts. I had to power down hard stop repeat cycle. Thinking that it was a question of power, I took the 4 connector pins from my DVD player to power the card. When you start again the same thing happened, Windows XP would load on the desktop and then go black and restart shortly after.

Here is some additional information on the "install":

By fear of failure, I do not uninstall my ATI drivers, and I did not install the NVIDIA drivers but either because of this. I have the NVIDIA drivers ready to be installed once I could start up. I hope this clears things up and if I did a no-no, please tell me! Thank you in advance for your help!

Remove the old video driver.  Shut down the PC.  Clear CMOS.  Provide additional power for the GPU.  Reset.  If the problem persists, then the card is not compatible with this Commission.  Problem could also be the result of a power supply suggestions.

  • Inspiron 15R SE 7520 video card problems

    Dear DELL,

This is a story of love at first sight, a happy period of parade and then heartbreak. When shopping for a new laptop, I fell upon a jewel of one. display 1080 p MATTE? Check. Zippy image Ivy Bridge CPU? Check. Clean, dedicated GPU? Check. Large amounts of RAM? Check. HARD drive tough? Check. FOUR USB 3.0 ports? Check. Optical disc (call me old-fashioned)? Check. Decent price tag? Check (after rebate online). Didn't hesitantly does not, I immediately bought an Inspiron 7520 home in July of 2012. At first, everything was a lot. I had a wonderful relationship with my laptop. The AMD Radeon HD M 7730 run latest games on medium to high heat, as long as I was not too hard with the resolution. Ultra high heat were out of the question, but I was fine with that. Of course, if DELL had to procure a 7750M or a 7770M, things would have been even more pink. Ah, good times!

As they say, all good things have an end. This relationship that bordered on perfection did not last long. In October of the same year, a tragedy struck. My baby was delivered with Win7 Home Premium 64-bit, but since I am eligible for the purchase of Win8 at a subsidized price, I went for him just after launched Win8. Initially, I had been suspicious of the upgrade because I was afraid that there would be problems of compatibility with my existing games (I have a large library of titles of steam). However, after researching this issue, I discovered that there was not much to fear. WIN8 seemed to be just as good for gaming under Win7 (or even better). So I made the leap.

And here! Immediately after the installation of Win8, it became clear that DELL had not fully prepared for the influx of new users of Win8 7520. From the beginning, my AMD video card stopped working. Needless to say, it was obviously a driver problem. I'm a patient person. That's why I decided to wait for DELL or AMD released a newer version of pilots 7730M. Because, you know, builders/OEMs need time to do their stuff. And I understood that. Take a few weeks, heck, take a couple of months. So, I want a fully functional GPU again so that I can play games Beyond 800 x 600 on low heat. Now, when I try to open the Catalyst Control Center, it just gives me this error: " " "Catalyst Control Centre cannot be started. Currently, there are no settings that can be configured with the Catalyst Control Center'. Tick, tock, tick tock... Fast forward to today, March 5, 2013, and it's been about half a year what Win8 was created.

Here's a question, DELL - WHERE ON EARTH ARE THE LATEST DRIVERS for the AMD RADEON HD 7730 M?

Before any tech support agent gives me an official response asking me to troubleshoot/diagnosis/attempt to repair my system, I'll save you the trouble: don't. Here is a (non exhaustive) list of the steps I have taken in the past half a year to troubleshoot/diagnosis/attempt to repair my system:

-I went through the whole process "devmgmt.msc".

-J' I updated my version of .NET for the last.

-J' downloaded and installed ALL the latest drivers for BIOS, GPU, WLAN, USB 3.0, memory card reader, and even, you name it. Yes, not even the latest GPU drivers on your work site. The 7730M does everything just quite Win8. This means that the two latest drivers are not later, or that you have published a very sloppy update that probably made things worse rather than improve it.

-J' checked multiple for a line (beginning with DELL) for corrections.

-J' visited the site Web of AMD and unacceptable, specific Win8 for 7730M drivers have not been released yet. Worse yet, it seems that they have not committed to a schedule for updating their drivers!

-J' tried to install different versions of drivers of M 7730, none has made a difference.

-I probably did some other things but I do not remember anything else right now.

Look, it's very simple, DELL. On behalf of all THOSE who have purchased the 7520 from you (and I know that he is a popular model), we are sick and tired of waiting for an update of the simple driver! If AMD can not get their shit right, move them, push, force to! You have a business relationship with them, but you also have a relationship with us, your customers. If you indeed treat us like your valuable customers, so please, please, please, please, please, just publish this update of elusive driver that reactivates the GPU in our 7520, if running on Win7 or Win8. It is a shame for me; In fact, I took the time to type this essay just to release all my pent-up frustration.

Finally, I got it with not be able to enjoy something that I legitimately own the way I want. If you don't sort this issue as soon as possible, I give you my word, I don't have to buy another DELL again. Do not respond to this letter by means of a useless official response you give to each complainant unique, I like to take concrete measures. Also, I don't want to go down to Win7 I like Win8, so this isn't an option as well. This issue has climbed out of control - simply by looking at the number of threads complaining about this same exact thing makes me want to pull out my hair. Once more, on behalf of all Inspiron 15R SE 7520 owners, I beg DELL and/or AMD to lead to a permanent solution to this problem quickly. Pretty please?

    Yours sincerely,

An extremely agitated owner Inspiron 7520

I've been using a n5010 with a core i3 370 m and 4650 m since 2.5 years even if there is an increase in acceptable performance for me: p I know I shouldn't expect to play on the set high in the good fps but it will do the job for me. And Yes, I couldve built much better desktop at the same price, but I'll take it to College for CAD, so there need to be a portable system. Instead, think wait you two months or more for computers laptops haswell will be worh it?

  • 18 Alienware video card problems

Since an update which took place yesterday for video cards for my 18 Alienware, the screen displays a digitized and yellowish halo around everything. It seems to be signs of a dying video card. I tried to go back to a previous graphics driver, that does nothing to help. I tried to do a system restore under Windows, which also has nothing. I did you are? test (kept pressed "D", while under tension) and the color scheme correctly. When it is plugged into my TV via the HDMI port, the TV picture is normal. In addition, this laptop has dual Nvidia 765Ms, and if I have them in SLI mode or mono-GPU has no effect on the problem. It's frustrating, because this laptop is only a few months old. Any suggestions?

  • Graphic/video card [REPLACEMENT / UPGRADE] on the desktop HP Pavilion - help

    I have the following:

    Desktop HP Pavilion Elite m9152p

Upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (updated 11/2009)

The video card seems to have gone out and tried the following:

    Operating system reinstallation

Uninstalled & drivers Reinstalled & restoration

Before attempts above, no changes had been made to software or hardware only led to the same result: the video seems to be fine, and then it crashes and hangs and doesn't eventually having a hard reboot how, the computer loads the integrated video/graphic card.

I need to buy a replacement video/graphics card, but I'm not sure what card I need to be aware of, or that my computer can handle as a replacement and maybe a possible upgrade (not necessary) - any help in this regard would be most appreciated.

    Thank you!

    I think it's a good choice.

The comments seem positive most of the time that the fan seems to be quiet.

I don't know if your previous card had HDMI.

When you install your new video card, it can disable your sound system because of the HDMI audio chip on the video card.

If you do not lose your integrated audio system, after you install the video drivers, reboot the machine, go into BIOS, find the onboard audio setting. It can be set to Auto or disabled. Change the setting to "Enabled". Save the configuration when you have made the change and again when you exit the BIOS.

Upon restart, you will have your on-board audio back.

    Impatience back on your part.

  • Lenovo G510 video card problem

Hello! For some time, I have a few problems with the graphics card on my laptop. When I try to launch a game using the AMD graphics card by going to "Switchable Graphics", the game does not work, I mena I can hear background noise of the game, but the screen is black. When I switch to Intel graphics card the game works perfectly.

When I go to Device Manager, I see the graphics card Intel and AMD. But when I use FurMark I only see the Intel graphics card, which is the only one that works.

When I run TechPowerUp GPU - Z I get an error telling me to update my OPENCL and my video card driver.

    Any ideas, please?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Just remove Intel and AMD graphics drivers in Device Manager and of course be sure to remove the respective graphics software too (can be made in programs and features, found in Control Panel)

First install Intel Graphics driver, then install AMD graphics driver on the respective support of your OS site.

And do not update your Intel of Windows Update drivers and or directly from the site Web of AMD.

It is best to install drivers from manufacturer as they can be adapted to our machines.

    IM using G510 Windows Pro 8.1 x 64

AMD Radeon HD 8570 M, Intel HD 4600

  • Lenovo H430 video card problem

    Hi all

I searched a bit on the forum but not found an answer to the problem I encounter. Apologies if it was answered, and I just missed him...

I have a H430 Office with an i3-2120. I recently bought a Quadro 600 to install in the box. When I install the video card and turn on the box, all I see is the start of Lenovo screen. Nothing happens, then I heard 2 beeps. Normally, I have that would be associated with the RAM, but the machine works well when I use the integrated graphics card.

I use the original supply of 280 watt, but the Quadro uses only 40 watts max. Any ideas on what could be the problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, thanks for the help!

I got the card to operate, although it took a bit of time. I tried to put my bios to the latest available on the Lenovo Web site. In the bios file, there is a program that is used to update the bios from Windows. If you use a 64-bit system, DO NOT try to use it!

I ended up getting a Gigabyte card to use, found a legacy setting in the bios menu and was able to get everything works perfectly!

I noticed that when I'm on facebook, or something in which the video card must be used, my laptop start to overheat! in which it will overheat until the fans are strong running and finally cut!

is there some sort of update or something that could be done in this sense?

    Hi @andrewtiw,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion dv4 - 2048 ca Notebook PC and questions with warming. You could restore the BIOS with this document by selecting the reload the default BIOS settings that may resolve the problem.

Here is a link to overheating . If the laptop has dust on the fans, it could be overheating.

If this does not help at the end of this document it tells you to do a test equipment. It will check any concerns with your hardware on the laptop.

I would like to know how this happens.

    Thank you.
