MacBook camera

In the interest of security and confidentiality, how can I check to see if my camera collects data?  The obvious answer is, the green light comes on.  Monitors or other indicators would be more significant.  THX

Unless you like doing things the hard way, the obvious answer is the appropriate: OS X KnowledgeBase: use the integrated camera.

If you want to go to more trouble, launch the activity monitor for the Mac utility and to monitor the process of VDCAssistant to see if it is used:

  • Do I need to use snow leopard installation discs to clear and then pass on late 2007 MacBook running 10.5.6?

Yet another question about the old MacBook crafty as questions involve. I begin to feel that the only way to clean it and the Mac is with software disks. Can I directly go with Snow Leopard, or do I have the disks to Leopard 10.5?

If theres an easier way using recovery disk fade and internet utility that would be really great!

    Help please!

You can use the Snow Leopard disc to install directly - you don't need to delete unless you want to. Your Macbook came with 1 GB of RAM and that meets the requirements that you might find it a little tight. If you are able to update the RAM would the Mac work better.

  • MacBook or MacBook Air?

You are thinking of buying a laptop for travel. Which of these two would be the best choice? How, constraint is having a USB - C port compared to the two USB 3.0 ports standard?

What the likelihood is that Apple will announce one new other than a MBP laptop since they already released the MacBook in 2016?

First of all, the TOS here ban speculation on future products. Those who know anything can not talk about this and everyone should be reverse hot air.

The MacBook is an interesting product in the same way that the MBA was an interesting product when it is released. My advice is often boils down to this: find an Apple store or dealer and spend some time with the product and it's one of those moments. When the first MacBook came out I quickly decided against it, because I hated the keyboard. I still don't have. I guess that's something I could live with afterwards, I wasn't happy with the Apple keyboard introduced with the current line MBP but eventually used to him and now this a little.

How the single port USB C will affect you depends on how you use the computer. On the road I need for a 95% of the time port and is designed to load my computer. I almost never sync my iPad or iPhone via the cable, and when I travel I always take an AirPort Express with me. At home and at the office, I needed a dock.

    Hey FYI Apple

This is how it should look.

Why does he want iPhoto to load every photo, my camera never had (since the update) when I just want what he upload 3 photos?

I have just three pictures I want to load my usb for my macbook camera style.

The camera has only 3 pictures on it, but iPhoto seems to have a memory of each photo, that I took because I've updated to the latest iPhoto and it wants to load on the page which is for the camera.

  • MagSafe adapter does not work after all the stuff that followed and merge card Ok?

My Megasafe duck-head adapter used with a Macbook pro has stopped working while my back was turned!

After trying all the controls and the actions described in the Apple support pages, it always dows not turn on or show any current to the small pins when checked with a multimeter.

It is the death of the adapter or can it receive some kind of CPR?

    Chris.

    Hello!

Could specify you which checks and actions you have done already?

Your MacBook came with both a cable to connect to the power supply and plug adapter. Could you try both to see if it works? You might just have a broken charger.

Please find instructions for that here: reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support

If the battery is good behaviour

    1. Stop the Mac.
    2. Plug the MagSafe or USB - C adapter to a power source and to your Mac.
    3. Use the built-in keyboard, press shift-control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time.
    4. All the keys to unlock, then press the power button to turn on your Mac

    If the battery is removable

    1. Stop the Mac.
    2. Unplug the MagSafe from Mac power adapter.
    3. Remove the battery. (Learn about removing the battery in the MacBook and MacBook Pro computers).
    4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    5. Reconnect the battery and the MagSafe power adapter.
    6. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.

    Thanks for posting the results!

  • Why do I have purchased it?

Having used Windows all my life, I decided that I had to make the transition and finally get a Mac computer. I am a web developer and designer, and everyone in the company uses Apple products.  There are several applications that I looked forward to use and also the simplicity of one architecture linux to work with.  I therefore decided to go big and get a 27 "iMac and a Macbook Pro.  It was a small fortune, but I thought I'd use them a lot.  My iMac has been a nice little work horse even if right after purchase from Apple came out with the k of 5 screens.  I'm really disappointed in the Macbook Pro if I wish I never bought it.

    1. basic models should not be sold -j' bought a model of basic thinking that an investment of more than $1,200 would be make me all that I needed. I was wrong.

    2. memory is much too low - my macbook came with only 4 GB of memory.  Thinking it would be enough at the time turned out be a huge mistake.  Try opening Photoshop and a browser, and a slow, it blocks.

    3. non extensible - Apple welds virtually everything to the motherboard now.  I can't upgrade memory, HARD drive or anything.

4 processor is overpriced - previously, I bought a HP laptop which came with an i7 processor that was almost as expensive as this i5.  You want to upgrade to i7? Pay a lot more money.

    5. suck graphics - Intel Iris? Try to run anything graphic intensive and watch it by sputtering and pass it along.  You want a Radeon card? Double the price that you are willing to pay.

    6. the guarantee is laughable - 90 days and a year? I just bought the Cadillac of computers and I get 90 days to a year? PC factory offer 3 years in some cases.

7 ports Ports Limited - every product that came out has less and less.  Get ready to buy a dongle for everything.

8 price gauging? -in the end you really put in doubt which is so expensive? It is made in China as all other systems. The same Intel hardware is too expensive and memory is 10 x more expensive. The operating system? No, it's just real closed Linux friendly and tight. The design? Maybe it's cool to look at. I think so.

BONUS - monitors - Apple You say fired on a fortune for a Mac Pro and you want a Mac monitor, well guess what? Their monitor Thunderbolt is 5 years old.  No. 5 k. Nothing. I bought one at the thought of work so that their screens are what they are known. It is complete garbage.  It is $ 999, 50 lb brilliant piece of crap.

I thought that I would be impressed, but ultimately, I feel like I was scamming.

It's your choice to buy something unsuitable for your needs. Why blame Apple.

  • Can I update Mavericks?...

(Sorry for posting this here but the page means for Os X Mavericks does not at all.)

So I am now on El capitan, but my macbook guard listening to the past years few weeks, it's really annoying me. I use even a feature introduced in this OS, I don't know why I've updated. I regret it. So I was thinking from scratch, this means I have to reinstall the Mavericks (the version of my macbook came with). The problem is, I'll be able to install updates of the mavericks (all the way up to 10.9.5)? Or I'll have to stick to the first version? Thank you for helping me

You will be able to update once installed Mavericks 10.9.5.

  • Downgrade of El Capitan (slow) to Yosemite on iMac 4 k

    Hello world

    I'm frustrating for my situation.
I got iMac, retina 4 k with a standard configuration (hhd 5400), but El capitan is veri very very very very slow (you can see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGExPmS7bUs).
I think (and hope) that the problem is El Capitan and I intend to downgrade to Yosemite (I got an iMac Mid 2011 with Yosemite (HHD 7200), before and all of it was very good).

My iMac is functional but still just very slow, and I often see the beach ball cursor.

Is there anyone who is able to downgrage end of 2015 iMac?

    Thanks in advance

If your computer came bundled with Yosemite?  If this isn't the case, you cannot downgrade to it.  It is no longer available in the App Store, and you can not put an operating system older than what came over her when you bought your computer.  My MacBook came with Snow Leopard installed, so I can not put leopard or Tiger on this subject, for example.  It would be much better get slow that you deal with support, because you're stuck with El Capitan.

  • Camera on MacBook Pro design flaw

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. The placement of the camera is just where most of the people open the lids of their units. So it becomes strongly footprints in this place. Acid in printing seems to damage the screen in this area over time, causing the camera to be blurred and very bad quality image. It seems to remove a coating that is located on the glass and replace it with a smear looking substance. I know at least two other people who have noticed this problem. Checked with someone at my local Apple Store and they said they find that it becomes a common complaint/problem. The only cure is to have the screen replaced which costs near where more than the unit is worth. Two solutions (interview), I was told was to clean the filter with a cleaner suitable whenever a fingerprint is noticed or always open the cover from the side (if you remember to do this every time)! Maybe Apple should seriously consider moving the camera to a location that would be less likely to get damaged or screens with a coating (or without one) that is impervious to damage caused by the acids present in most of the prints.

Yes, your MacBook accepts two RAM sticks of 4 GB, 8 GB total, you'd better update the firmware Version MB51.007D.B03.

You just bought a macbook pro retina. Why the resolution of the camera is terrible? Is there a solution?

The facetime camera is only 720 p, which is 0.92 megapixel. Same 1080 p is only 2.07mp.

It's really designed only for video calls, if you really want to make HiRes video on the internet.

  • I think someone changed my MacBook Air charger, is it possible to identify one that came with the computer? It has a serial number attached. Please help, thanks!

I think someone changed my MacBook Air charger, is it possible to identify the one supplied with the original computer?, if it has no serial number connected to the computer?, thank you!

There is no serial number match between the computer and the charger. All MBA models came with a 45W charger and there is no danger in using a higher power charger.

  • MacBook Air 11 Facetime camera does not

A friends MacBook Air 11, model A1370. After the installation of El Capitan the facetime camera has stopped working (No. Camera work icon is displayed in all applications). I tried all the solutions I could find:

    • Reset SMC
    • Reset the PRAM
    • sudo killall VDCAssistant & sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant

Nothing seemed to fix it, so we left in East. And then surprise, after I installed a Digital Camera RAW compatibility update the camera started working. But our happiness was short-lived, after having put the mac to sleep it stoped working again. I have tried everything but no luck.

I suspect that there is a process that runs after an update is installed, that somehow erased the bug in the operating system and that was why the camera started working.

Does anyone have an idea why a camera raw compatibility update started the camera, or why it does not work? Thank you.

    1. the present proceedings is a diagnostic test. It doesn't change anything for the better or worse and therefore, by itself, will not solve the problem. But with the help of the results of the tests, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.

The test works on OS X 10.8 ("Mountain Lion") and later versions. I do not recommend running it on older versions of Mac OS X. It will do no harm, but it will not do not much good.

Do not be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You make the tasks more complicated with the computer all the time.

    2. If you do not already have a current backup, please back up all the data before doing anything else. The backup is needed on the general principle, not because of what anyone in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you encounter any kind of problems with the computer, you can be more than the usual loss of data, if you follow these instructions or risk not.

There are ways to back up a computer that is not fully functional. Ask if you need advice.

3 here is instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it doesn't change anything. It does not send or receive data over the network. There is no to generate a report on the State of the computer human readable. This report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents for me or someone else.

You should ask yourself if you can believe me, and if it is safe to run a program at the request of a foreign national. In general, no, he's not sure, and I encourage it.

In this case, however, there are ways for you to decide if the program is safe without having to trust me. First of all, you can read it. Unlike an application that download you and click to start, it is transparent, anyone familiar with the code can check what it does.

You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this site several times over a period of years. One of the million registered users to have read the script and set off the alarm if it was dangerous. Then I wouldn't be here now, and you would not be reading this message. See, e.g., this discussion.

However, if you cannot satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, do not follow them. Ask other solutions.

    4. here is a general summary of what you need to do, if you decide to go forward:

☞ Copy text from a particular web page (not this one) to the Clipboard.

☞ Paste into the window to another application.

☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.

☞ Stick the results, which will be copied automatically, in a response on this page.

These are not specific instructions; just a glimpse. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait and paste it again. You don't need to copy a second time.

    5. try to test in conditions that replicate the problem, to the extent possible. For example, if the computer is slow intermittently, run the test during a downturn.

You may have started up in safe mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works pretty well in normal mode to test run, restart as usual before running it. If you can test only in safe mode, this.

    6. If you have more than one user and a user is affected by the problem, and the user is not an administrator, and then run the test twice: once under the affected user and one administrator. The results can be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer, when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you are unable to log in as an administrator, verify that the user concerned. More personal Mac have only one user, and in this case this section does not apply. Don't log in as root.

7 load the linked web page (the site "Pastebin.") Press the combination of keys command + A to select all the text, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing command-C.

    8. start the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name ("Terminal") in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing Command + V, then press return. The text that you pasted should disappear immediately.

    9. If you logged in as an administrator, you will be prompted for your login password. Nothing displayed when you type. You won't see the usual points instead of the characters typed. Make sure that caps lock is turned off. Type carefully, and then press return. You can get a warning to be careful. If you make three unsuccessful attempts to enter the password, the test is still running, but it will produce less information. If you do not know the password, or if you prefer not to enter, just press back three times at the password prompt. Yet once again, the script will run.

If the test takes much longer that usual to run because the computer is very slow, you can be prompted for your password a second time. The permission you grant by entering it will expire automatically after five minutes.

If you are not logged as an administrator, you will be prompted for a password. The test will run. It just will not do anything that requires administrator privileges.

    10. the test may take a few minutes to run, depending on the number of files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that is abnormally slow may take more time to run the test. During execution, a series of lines is displayed in the Terminal window like this:

        Test started
            Part 1 of 4 done at: … sec        …        Part 4 of 4 done at: … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
        Please close this window.

The intervals between the parties will not be exactly the same, but they give an approximate indication of progress.

Wait for the final message "Please close this window" appear - again, usually within a few minutes. If you don't see this message in about 30 minutes, the test probably won't be completed within a reasonable time. In this case, press the Ctrl + C key combination or the point command to stop it. Then go to the next step. You will have incomplete results, but still something.

In order to get results, the test should be allowed to perform or be stopped manually as shown above. If you close the window of the Terminal, while the test is still running, the partial results will not be saved.

    11. when the test is completed, or if you manually stopped, leaving the Terminal. The results have been saved to the Clipboard automatically. They do not appear in the Terminal window. Please do not copy from there. All you have to do is start a response to this comment and then paste it again by pressing Command-V.

At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words «Start time.» If you do not see that, but rather to see a mass of gibberish, you wait for the message "close this window". Please wait and try again.

If personal information, such as your name or e-mail address, appear in the results, make anonymous before posting. Usually it will be not necessary.

    12. in the validation of the results, you see an error message on the web page: "you have included content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the software which manages this website. Thanks for posting the results of the tests on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.

    13. When you are finished with the test, it is gone. There is nothing to uninstall or clean.

    14. This is a public forum and others can give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but all that you can not be. For others who choose to run it, I do not recommend that you view the results of test on this Web site unless I ask.
