MacBook, in early 2008, obsolete?

I currently have a Macbook, 13-inch, early 2008 model. I supported my 5s to iTunes iPhone successfully, but now I need to restore my iPhone to my backup 5s 6s. I am currently MAC OS X lion 10.7.5 which does not support my iPhone 6 s. I just want to check that I have no other choice than to get a new laptop. If this is the case, what should I do with my current macbook? Now it is just junk? It still works very well... Thank you!

You're right not being able to sync the old MacBook with a new iPhone running iOS9.  Realize that all your hardware and software must come from roughly the same generation, and that's just the way it is with technology, unless the laws are passed requiring compatibility back (like it with automakers by law, have to stock parts for 20 years).

One option is to use the 6s in a limited without synchronization.  My wife has never synchronized its 4S with a computer.  It depends on how you use your phone.  Even if you have iTunes purchases a lot of features have been moved to the iCloud in any case if you do not need sync for music purposes.  You can save to iCloud, etc..

Another option is to buy a newer computer. You can try to sell the old property that he truly crossed a line now that he is unable to launch a new generation system.  If all you want to do is get rid of it, I'm sure, you can find someone who would be happy to have, or you can recycle it by Apple.

  • El Capitan on MacBook (early 2008 White paste) 4.1

    Hi all

I just want to preface this post by specifying that I'm completely new in the Mac game. I googled my problem and did not find a similar problem. But I'm sorry in advance if I am not good enough.

That being said, I recently acquired an Early 2008 model works perfectly MacBook (white 4.1). I bought a Solid State Drive and 4 GB of RAM for it and plan on installing these elements as soon as I have time.

So my question is the following (also insert TL;) DR here):

Is it possible to start later OS versions like Yosemite or El Capitan on the Early 2008 MacBook 4,1? Whether with force or by conventional means?

I understand that Apple doesn't "support" of later versions of Mac OS X on this model. I would like to just use that as my driver all day, and I can't do with an obsolete OS.

    Thank you!

  • The limits for OSX Mac Pro 3.1 update in early 2008

I wonder till I can upgrade the operating system of my Mac Pro 3.1

    I currently have El Capitan

I would spend the money, do some hardware upgrades (SSD, RAM)

and I wouldn't, being an early 2008 to discover the next year general hardware of the machine is too old

and does not receive any other updates or any new OS

I do not pretend to have updates of the system for another 10 years but I don't find me 'old' next year

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing what will be obsolete next year or the year after, etc.

  • an early 2008 mac mini and want to know what OSX iI can be upgraded to.

I have an early 2008 mac mini, model A1283 and the OS x 10.6.8.  Is there an OSX I can pass safely to this machine?

    Upgrade to El Capitan

You can pass the Lion El Capitan or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded for FREE from the Mac App Store.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

To upgrade to El Capitan, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1 iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later

2 MacBook (late 2008 or early 2009 or newer aluminium) - model identifier 5.1 or later

    3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

4 MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)- model identifier 2.1 or later

5 mac mini (early 2009 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

6 mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

7 Xserve (early 2009) - model identifier 3.1 or later version

To find the identifier of the model open system information in the Utilities folder. It is displayed in the Panel on the right.

    Upgrade to Lion

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install the Mavericks, it can still meet the specifications to install Lion.

You can buy Lion to the Apple store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus taxes.  It's a download. You will receive an email with a redemption code that you then use on the Mac App Store for download Lion. Save a copy of this installer to your download folder because Setup deletes itself at the end of the installation.

    Lion system requirements

1 mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

    or Xeon processor

    2. 2 GB of memory

    3 OS X 10.6.6 or later (10.6.8) recommended

    4. 7 GB of available space

    5. certain features require an Apple ID; conditions apply.

I suggest that stick you with Snow Leopard because the Lion is a bit a dog. If you really need to upgrade over Snow Leopard, then you need a new computer.

I have an iMac early 2008, which is not suitable for the upgrade to Sierra. What is the fundamental reason for the machine is not suitable for the Sierra?  What is the processor speed, the adapter features, (I have 4 GB) of RAM. 8 years ago, I bought the machine.  Its great and when I bought it that I hoped for 7 years of use I have that have passed and now hoping to get to 10 years, but now I have some doubts about the future support. • Mac Pro early 2008 OS 10.6.8 at 10.11 on a new SSD upgrade

    Hi all!

I want to spend my Mac Pro hard drive to an SSD with a new installation of El Capitan, but I also want to continue to use Adobe CS3 (I can't afford a new version... > _ <).  I read that some people have a lot of problems after upgrading their operating system, even when you use the legacy of Java 6 to CS3.

Someone at - it good tutorials step by step to install a new OS on a SSD?  I have the adapter for my Mac to use the SSD drive also.  I'm not * that * tech savvy, so I don't want to spoil anything!  :\

Would it not be possible to keep my current hard drive with Snow Leopard and run Parallels or Fusion for Adobe CS3 on my SSD?  I've never used Parallels or Fusion (preferences?), so where the Snow Leopard operating system to be need?  On a partition on the SSD or can it be on its own hard drive (the one I'm currently using)?

Also do not know when I improve my OS, how do I tell my Mac to start El Capitan and not Snow Leopard so I keep the older operating system on its own hard drive?  It is system-> startup disk preferences?  Is that how I can go back, if I need to?

    Here are my specs:

Mac Pro early 2008 (MacPro 3,1)

    Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.8 Ghz

    16 GB RAM 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

HARD drive 500GBx2 (one is currently my Time Machine, I'll use it as a backup of my photos)

500GB SSD (no not in my Mac still installed)

4 TB HARD drive (will have Time Machine on half)

El Capitan would be really slow on my Mac Pro or should I go with the Mavericks or Yosemite?  I'm just trying to extend the life of my Mac as long as possible!

I'm really sorry for all the questions!  Thank you very much for any help!  ^____^

    ~ Christina ~.

-Unless you have already "purchased" Mavericks or Yosemite is is not available for download.

-I just download the installer of El Capitan from the Mac App Store and run it and order that EL Capitan to be installed on the new SSD. You can then by pressing the Option key at startup to choose which version of the OS you want to boot from. You can set either as the default startup in system preferences > startup disk.

-During installation, you use the configuration wizard to migrate SN drive stuff. YO can also do it later using Migration Assistant but who has created a new used with the migrated data.

-With 16 GB of RAM and an SSD El Capitan will be fine

  • Replacement for trust Mac Pro early 2008

    Hello

Looking for a replacement for my very reliable and expandable Mac Pro early 2008.  I got it in 2009 after the death of my PC and on the eve of Apple, highlighted the 2009 model.

Looking for a replacement and do not know whether to go for high spec 27 "iMac or Mac Pro.  Welder instead of videographer professional seriousness.  All I get will be faster than the current Mac Pro despite many improvements over the years.

    Thank you

    Matt

As an amateur, I think you should seriously consider any movement until the 2009 model or later. Same factor form except the processor and RAM are on a shelf at the bottom of the Cabinet.

They are faster because of some of the architecture changes, accept more RAM and still have the PCIe slots that allow you to add upgrades.

  • Cannot update software on MacBook - white, early 2009

I'm new to Mac OS.  I only got the iPad and iPhone.

    I bought an antique MacBook, white/early 2009.

-OS x 10.6.8 4 GB of ram, 107 GB available hard - not SSD disk

Great, runs fast.  The case seems new, perfect condition.

It is said there are updates available, for many things, but they won't install.  I have download, the system begins to restart, but remains on the desktop with wallpaper only - no icons, etc.  Manual reboot simply cancels the update process.

I don't need this notebook, I just want to get some applications or programs that connect with applications on my other devices, but this version OSX is too old.  Therefore, I made a mistake buying this MacBook - only error of $100.  Don't know if I'll keep it.  However, it is pretty sweet.

Please use the numbers of the BONE, if possible, when you reply.  I don't know the names of the different versions - like Maverik, El Capitan, etc..

    Thank you

The computer that you identified as MacBook5.2 (13-inch early 2009)

should be able to run El Capitan OS X 10.11.6 as it is downloaded from

the Mac App Store online. This is the download of the available system only

which would be upgraded to the latest OS X.

Other than this free update, the other option would be to buy a

old Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5 redemption code Online

    Apple Store, which would then be used in the App Store for download;

It would cost $19.99 (buy at the Apple Store; download App Store)

Don't know what you found or tried to download. Remember if you try

to use the Mac App Store since in Snow Leopard, you

Use your own AppleID because all updates and upgrades will bind the

OS X computer and just bought the software to your AppleID.

And any subsequent owner of this computer should adapt

the Snow Leopard 10.6.8 using App Store database. The

model that you probably won't be able to use the next OSX

not yet released version; El Capitan is what should be judged.

If you upgrade to a system later has no install DVD media,

the owner later would need boot Snow Leopard 10.6.3

the retail DVD and then update. While they could use their AppleID to

Customizing the computer for their own use. So to enter the

install the disc media for the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 system with the

computer, is a key to set up for future upgrade online users.

There are other details in the present, perhaps someone can offer those

because I need to be offline now.

    Good luck & happy computing!
