Machine on the network share, snapshot at the opening?

Hello

I'm new on this, so apologies if I receive the wrong terminology.

I need to put some infrastructure in place to a Profiler configuration for applications in Citrix flow (although this info is probably not important to do this).

What I need is the following.

User turns on the workstation, and then tries to start a machine 2008R2 on a network share. A snapshot is then created, and the user is working on this snapshot. When you are finished, the user stops the machine and the snapshot is destroyed, leaving a pristine environment for the next user.

Is this possible? Is it possible to do it with a minimal amount of information provided by the user (scripts can help?).

Thanks in advance.

install the virtual machine until you get the required state.
then setall VMDK tononpersistent

This creates a snapshot too which is automatically deleted when the virtual machine stops - not necessary at all to script

  • Is it possible to create a virtual machine on a network share?

I have a server from SuSE 11 running samba to share files and directories files in my PC XP x 64. I installed VMware Player on my XP machine and went through the steps to create a virtual machine on my SuSE server. Vmx and vmdk files is create successfully, but when I try to start the virtual machine I get the message: ' could not open the virtual machine: you don't have access rights to this file. " However VirtualBox (also installed on my XP machine) doesn't have this problem. Indeed, I created the virtual machine of player in the same shared directory I use for my VirtualBox VM to eliminate the permissions on the linux side issues. Is this a limitation of the player?

Unfortunately, for me, it would not solve my problem. My problem is that I have to allow the IP addresses and aliases on my Server LDAP (with Openfiler) to give them access to my network share. I am able to access my Windows XP operating system network sharing. When I run Ubuntu in a virtual machine, I am able to access the network share here as well. But when the Player tries to access a virtual computer on the network, it gets the message "access denied." That tells me that my SIN is either see a different IP or ID different from the drive. I can see all network (including virtual) cards, and I welcomed them into my LDAP. So, for me, that means that somehow the player is trying to access my network share with some other than the user ID, I am connected to my computer with.

To test, I will set up one of my linux boxes, install Player it and see if it has the same problem to access a network share. Then who will tell me if it is perhaps a shade of Windows Networking/authentication, or if it is OS independent and everything in the player.

Would be nice if I could get a logfile out Openfiler (or any application) which showed when an unauthorized access attempt was made. Then I could easily get the user ID and IP address and add it to the LDAP server. But, alas, I was not able to find such a newspaper or a tool that will do it.

  • How to disable auto-start for the virtual machine at the start of merger?

    Hi all

I use Fusion 2.0.4 to run different OSs and have 4 different virtual machines that are installed. But whenever I start the merger, regardless of the previous state when I stopped him, he starts a specific virtual machine. How to avoid this? I want to start just merge and then choose which machine to start.

    TIA.

    Hello

    Welcome to the VMware Forums!

In the virtual machine library, there is a star in the list of your virtual machines that you can click and she acts as a toggle to start the virtual machine on the opening of Fusion.

It is somewhat a weird UI design choice, don't know me either until someone reminded last week.

  • Windows XP sp3 can not access the network shares on vista after installing sp2

I have a xp sp3 computer and another currently running vista Home premium sp2. Previously, I was able to access the network share on the xp computer before vista computer I installed sp1. Both computers were able to ping between them without problem.

I've upgraded to sp2 because I had problems with windows media center, missing records. Upgrade of these issues fixed, but this means that roll back to sp1 is not an option for me to get operational network.

Please do not post a standard answer on the network configuration. I am familiar with the standards requirements to share files between xp and vista and everything is set up correctly.  Like I said everything was working fine before the installation of sp2.

If it is a known problem that is still not resolved, I'd appreciate knowing that information as well.

Edit: Firewall been disabled during my troubleshooting

After more work, I was able to solve my problem.  Update zone alarm solved my problem and helped my windows xp machine to access my Vista network shares.  As I pointed out in the original post, zone alarm firewall has been disabled during my troubleshooting.  Apparently, when disabled, the old version of zone alarm has always been the origin of the problem.

  • The Windows Firewall blocks network share on Windows 7

I'm currently on Windows 7 Pro x 64.  I use the firewall of Windows of Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft.  No firewall AV or additional software is currently installed.  I regularly use the many Xbox 360 to stream media content of this machine on the home network.  In addition, I set up a homegroup to share resources such as printer and fileshares with other machines in the House.  It's all working perfectly until a few weeks ago.  No direct changes to installation other than updates of Microsoft, Adobe (Flash) and Oracle (Java).  Now, unless I turn off the Windows Firewall, my xboxs can not see the sharing machine, and no other network computers can print/share via homegroup.

Currently, discovery network, file sharing of printers and streaming media are disabled and cannot be reactivated.  Check the radio buttons on the first two, then clicking to save does nothing.  I get sent to the network and sharing Center screen, but when I check again options for change advanced sharing settings, the options are returned to the people with reduced mobility.  Media streaming from this screen says it is on (even if this is not the case), but when I select the option to change this, it says it is disabled (which is correct).  By selecting the option to turn on media streaming continuously, does nothing.  I can click constantly with no change.

I ran the Virus Scan free from Symantec online as long as complete system scan MSSE where each is an element, and in each case, the two elements have been removed (for the threat found by Symantec) NPE and (for the number found by MSSE) the MSSE tool.  I also run SFC/scannow and repaired the problem identified.  With two comprehensive analyses of each tool, I am sure that my machine is the threat and corruption free.

In addition, I went through the list of services recommended to 'start' and 'automatic' which was published MANY times by MANY people.  For clarity, I have all these started and set to automatic:

    o computer browser
    o Client DHCP
    o customer DNS
    o network connections
    o knowledge of network locations
    o remote procedure call (RPC)
    o server
    o support TCP/IP Netbios
    o workstation

With all these started, I can not follow the discovery of the network, the file and printer sharing, and streaming media options running.  I also made sure upnp started as well.

I noticed, however, when I disabled the Windows Firewall, all options could be changed and stayed changed.  I added WMP to the firewall allow list and activated the firewall.  All options have yet.  In the firwall outgoing options are all set to allow, if incoming is currently refused saying "block all connections to programs that are not on the list of allowed programs."  It is the default state of Windows Firewall.

Run without AV and a FW is NOT an option.  Specifically, these are tools MS and should not conflict with these simple network features.

  • Windows 7 loses access to the network share when unplug wired connection

With my laptop Windows 7 Pro (64-bit SP1;) docked and thus have wired network (within a domain), I can access shares network very well. A wireless connection is active at the same time. When I detach, Windows Explorer and Office applications get upset some of the time. In addition, this is the case when I anchor. He didn't there has no problem opening a file on the network share when I'm rooted or not anchored, but the transition is not well. Windows launches the error code 0 x 80070035, Windows cannot access , the network path was not found. When it is connected to our wireless network, the machine name is altered by an additional letter. The latter has led to a problem that had to be cleared up by a patch installed by my system administrator, but the problem persisted.

I understand that Windows 7 should be smart enough to pass interfaces for network access, having a preference for a wiring if it is available (perhaps even the connection data rate). Maybe it's too much to expect that the operating system could make this transition, but it seemed that my Vista laptop has done very well. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thank you.

What I have to be on the local network to download the Thinapp packages, or am I misconfigured? I already checked the user who runs has full rights to share inside and on the local network, it works fine, but when mandated by workspace it fails, probably because the client calls a share location, that it cannot reach. Anyone who encountered this?

  • Sharing of virtual machines and the NETWORK adapter settings

I usually have multiple NICs per physical machine, and I often map more than one NETWORK card in a virtual machine. This does all work well with 'regular' virtual machines and virtual network Editor. I use 10.0.1 on linux 64-bit Workstation.

As soon as I share a virtual machine, the NIC mappings cannot be changed in any useful way. I can spend only NAT, HostOnly and connected by a bridge in a ComboBox control, without the ability to select a specific vmnet. Although connections are bridged, they are displayed as NAT, which makes no sense at all...

What is the reason for this? I'm doing something wrong? If this is the intended behavior, it's shared VMs useless for me...

    Kind regards

    Thomas

I reinstalled VMware Workstation and now I understand what happened.

I need ever - and HostOnly-setting in NAT network, so the first thing I usually do after installing VMware is to remove them and fills vmnet0 to eth0 and eth1 to vmnet1. This works perfectly well with non-shared virtual machines.

For shared virtual computers, this mapping has been messed up somehow. Now it seems to work fine, I removed all the vmnets and has created vmnet10-> eth0 and vmnet11-> eth1.

If the problem is solved for me; but I can't say how the maps I screwed up. I certainly had two bridged devices, but has been shown only a single bridged device.

  • Recommendations or best practices around change of the audio data on a network share?

I have several users editing audio located on the same network share. They are always complaining about the performance.  Is it a best practice to edit audio located on the network?  I see so many issues (latency time, possible corruption, etc.) with that from the computer SCIENCE point of view, but I would like the opinion of those more familiar with the application and its best practices.  Thanks in advance.

It's crazy! So that any audio to be edited with any degree of speed and security, it must be downloaded to a local computer, edited on that, and then the final result re-recorded on the network.

You might as well do this anyway - at the time wherever you make a change, you store a local version of the file temp on the editing machine, and it has real save, or save as who turned to the network drive. Also, you would be working on a copy, the original is still available in the case of the vis - is up, and would not be the case if you edit the original files directly on the network, so it is intrinsically safer.

  • Disk utility can not create large image of drive (60 GB) on the network share

    Disc Utiity (Versie 15.0 (1511.3)):

I am creating a disc from a hard disk image. I want to save the image on a Synology DS414 network share.

The share is accessible a there is no active disk quota.

I copied a large file via Finder (384 MB) to the \\partagereseau that works.

When I try to record a copy of disk sharing (60 GB), I get the following message:

Unsatisfactory area is available on "(null)" to create the NAME of diskimage. Choose another volume with at least 60 GB of available space and continue.

Summary: I can create large files on the share, but the disc utilities cannot?

    Greetings Wim

384 MB is nowadays is no longer considered to be a file of "big."

You don't mention how much space is actually available on the Synology but for arguments sake, we will assume that more than 60 GB of space is available.

So in theory it should be possible to create a disk image of 60 GB (no doubt), there is enough space available. As you say there is no set of storage quotas and I'm happy to believe that. I think that the issue could be more to do with the maximum allowed size of the file, remember that I mentioned that 384 is actually not much, although some systems have a limit of 4 GB for a single file, for example FAT32 file systems have such a limit. In theory the FAT32 limit should not apply here because almost all including Synology NAS servers actually use Linux as the underlying software and so use Ext3 or Ext4 as file system, not FAT32. Same Ext2 a fortiori Ext3 or Ext4 allowing individuals will produce up to 2 TB of size which is clearly much larger than 60 GB.

Still it could be related to that question even if it is necessary as an unnecessary and artificial limit may be for example to ensure compatible with other systems using FAT32.

If you have enough space on the Mac, you could create and try to copy on the Synology, however another approach which is probably better all around is to create a "sparsebundle disk image. It's a disc image, but another type and will work around this problem because it is in fact made up of lots of all small files attached together. As that user do you see this as image a big drive, but the computer sees it as a folder full of files much smaller.

  • G530 causes intermittent network Drops for all Machines on the network

I have a new G530 (Vista Home Premium, 3 GB of RAM) that will expose the weird behavior. Whenever he is on my home network, it causes all machines on the network to lose Internet connectivity for a few seconds every 30 seconds or more. Everything on the network is fine, and then I connect the G530 - either turn on the wireless switch or connect a cable. Therefore, network connectivity is interrupted periodically.

    Here's what I know:

    • I have plugged and unplugged it for more than a week. It is this machine at the origin of the problem. I can repeat on order by commissioning wireless switch on Lenovo or plug the LAN cable.
    • The network works through a router DLink wireless/wired. The wireless part is encrypted WEP.
    • The machines on the network are a mix of Vista Premium, basic Vista, XP, Win2000 and a wireless HP printer. They all display the intermittent network problem when the Lenovo is connected.
    • Lenovo has the problem when it is connected.
    • I made repeated IPConfig / release--> / renew on all machines. At one point, I did a manual inspection and there is no duplicate IP addresses.
    • The Lenovo worked fine connected wireless to the network of the local public library.
    • A suggestion of DLink had to give the different names cable and wireless LANs. I tried. Problem persists.
    • It is not the modem; We went from LILY at the thought of this week of cable modem - thanks to some misleading advice from our DSL provider - the ADSL modem was dying. The problem is the same now with the cable modem as it was with the DSL modem.
    • I can see the problem on non-Vista machines easily because the task bar appears whenever the network connects or disconnects. (Vista has fixed this particular annoyance.) The message is that a network cable is unplugged.
    • It's the question even if the Lenovo is connected wirelessly or via Ethernet.

Any ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions? To cry on shoulders? Otherwise, it is a wonderful machine, but I need a computer, not a killer network...

    Thank you

    -Steve

  • XP loses the visibility of other machines on my network to "My Network Places" after plugging in USB audio dongle.

I have a XP Home Edition laptop with defective onboard sound, so I bought a sound card USB (dongle). Before using the dongle, I could still access the shared files on my other machines through "My Network Places" (NPM). However, when I plug the audio dongle (which uses the driver USB audio generic Microsoft) other machines on my network are accessible to only a few minutes, after which they are no longer visible through MNP. I can still map remote shared folders to a drive letter in Windows Explorer, and Internet access is not affected. Once the remote computers have disappeared from the NPM, they don't come back again after a reboot, or even after you use the System Restore tool to return to a State before that the dongle is connected. The only way I can get MNP working again is to restore the c: full since a backup of the image. (Fortunately, my personal files are in a separate drive of the Windows operating system partition.)

Apart from the use of the dongle, are there other ways to get the NPM in order to see the other machines on my network in a consistent way?

I don't have a solution to the problem of MNP, but I have a possible workaround.  To access another computer when MNP is not running, click Start > run , type the name of the computer in the box as shown below and click OK :

  • Why my network shares keep duplication in 'My Computer'? I have Y and Z mapped to 2 different actions. From one day to the next, I have B - Z mapped without my fault. What is going on?

Hello! I can't understand what this does to my computer. It seems that something is automatically re-mapping my mapped network shares. How can I even begin to solve this?

The last major change to my system were:
    1 - installed Norton Internet Security 2011 (anti-virus, etc.)
2 - decided to play with indexing in the Panel but I didn't not add Y and Z to the index. I didn't change the file types that are indexed using this tab in the window and check each type of file in there
3 installed MacDrive 8 so I could connect my Mac USB keys, etc. and use them locally on my PC
    Thanks in advance!

It was Norton Ghost. Norton Ghost tried to access a directory in one of the actions, but I had changed the location of this directory. He just started mapping and re-mapping the same actions over and over again. Weird! Then I opened the ghost, clicked in the menu Tools, then Options, then changed to something else by default backup destination. It's strange, but it does. I had not used this in over a year backup destination and have resorted to a ghost. Phantom decided not to change the backup destination by default, when I deleted my old backup job 'task' and made a new who had another destination of backup. Weird.

    Thanks for your good help.
