Maintenance of the network

Hello

We have a few complete network maintenance, where the hosts and virtual machines are loose connection for a few minutes.

In the past, we have disabled the HA and DRS over the maintenance of the network and allowed him to return once the maintenance is complete.

My question is do I really fuck HA or uncheck followed within the parameters of cluster host would do the same thing HA disabled during maintenance of the network.

Environment:

ESXi 4.1 HA and DRS cluster active servers

Thank you

You just uncheck the tracking host, there is no need to turn off the feature HA cluster together.

If you are using vSphere 4 there is option to disable HA response to failure without disabling agents HA HA. This option has been added specifically for when you know you're going to do the maintenance of the network and that you do not want HA answer when the management network is down. It is much faster to do that that in order to completely disable the HA or put all hosts in maintenance mode.

    Hello X-x_MaGiC_x-X,

Thank you for visiting the website of Microsoft Windows Vista Community.

Try the rest of the stage in this article:

System restore points are created automatically when the following occur:

    • When you install a new application or driver.
    • When you uninstall or install some programs.
    • When you install new updates
    • Automatically on a daily interval
    • Manually by creating a.
    • If you choose to use system restore to restore to a previous restore point, System Restore creates a new restore point before you restore a previous state in case something goes wrong. If you are restoring to a previous state in Mode without failure, a restore point will create for the current state.

So that the restoration of the system to work, you must have 300 MB of free space for each hard disk that monitors the system restore. System Restore will also use up to 15% of disk space on each disk that it monitors. That hard disk space runs out, older restore points will be deleted as newer ones. It is also important to note that you must be logged in as an administrator in order to use the system restore. Now that you understand the basics of the system restore, you must continue to the next section to learn how to use it.

Restore Windows Vista to a previous state

In the case of a problem on your computer that cannot be solved by normal means, you can restore your computer to a previous working state. To do this, you need to start restoring the system so that you can choose the restore point to restore. If you currently have Windows Vista boot problems, you can use the system restore in Windows recovery environment. Instructions on how to do it in this tutorial can be found: System Restore using the Windows Vista recovery environment.

If you can connect to Windows Vista, you must follow these steps.

    1. Close and save any documents that you have opened.
    2. Click the Start button to open your Start Menu. The Start button looks like this:
    3. When the Start Menu open click on the menu option all programs.
    4. Click once on the Start Menu Accessories group.
    5. Click once on the System Tools Start Menu group.
    6. Click once on the icon of the system restore. After you click the icon, if a user account control window opens, click on the button continue.

You will now be on the screen as shown below in Figure 1 system restore. From this screen, you can specify the restore point that you want to restore.

    1 screen of system restore

By default, Vista will be already selected the restore recommended option. This restore point is one followed a new pilot program, or update has been installed. If you do not want to use this restore point, you can click on the button next to start the restore process. On the other hand, if there is a more recent restore point that you want to restore you should select choose a different restore point and press the next button. This will bring you to a screen, as shown in Figure 2, which contains a list of all available restore points that you can restore.

    2. the list of available restore points

You must select the restore point that you want to restore, and then press the button next to start the restore process. Vista will display a window showing your selected restore point and asking you to confirm that it is that you want to restore.

    3. confirm the selected restore point

If you want to select a different restore point, press the Back button. Otherwise, you can press the Cancel button to exit the system restore or the button finish to begin the restore process. If you have selected finish, Vista will display a second prompt asking you to confirm that you want to continue restoring.

    4. second Confirmation

If you are sure you want to restore, then press the Yes button. Vista will now log you off the computer and start the system restore process, as shown in Figure 5 below.

    5. restoration of a restore point

When the restore is complete, your computer will be restarted and when Vista starts it backup will be restored to its previous state. When you open a Vista session for the first time after the restore, you will see a message indicating that the restore was successful.

    6. system restore was successful

If there are problems with your computer because the last restoration, you can return to your previous settings to ebb in the system restore utility and select Undo system restore by pressing the next button.

7 undo the last system restore

Your computer should now work correctly again.

With the help of the restoration of the system in the Windows recovery environment

    Manual creation of Restore Points

As mentioned previously, it is also possible to create manual restore depending on points. Some popular designs to create manual restore points are when you have your computer configured perfectly and I would save the State in case of problems in the future. To create a manual restore point, you must follow these steps:

    1. Click the Start button to open your Start Menu. The Start button looks like this:
    2. Click on the control panel menu option.
    3. Click the option menu system and Maintenance.
    4. Click on the system menu option.
    5. Click on the System Protection in the list on the left.

You will now be at the System Protection tab in the system control panel. This tab allows you to enable and disable the system restore as well as making the new manual restore points.

    8. the System Protection tab

To create a manual restore point, you must click on the button create. When you press this button a prompt asking you to give a title to this manual restore point.

    9. Enter the manual restore point title

Type a title for the manual restore point and press the button create. Vista will now create a restore point manually and once finished, post a notice that it was created successfully.

    10. Manual restore point has been created

Now that you have finished doing the manual restore point, you can close the system window.

Try to download the correct and up-to-date drivers.

    This should solve your problem.

Let us know if these steps solve your problem.  I hope the information is useful.

    Enter the network password

I'm constantly asked to enter the network password.  I just delete it and continue, but it is very annoying.  How can I solve or delete this request please

    Hello

I suggest you to follow the steps and check.

    1. Open user accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click user accounts and family safety (or by clicking on user accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking user accounts.
    2. In the left pane, click on manage your network passwords.
    3. Click the password you want to remove, and then click on remove.

Allowing access to the network without password

    1) go to control panel, performance and Maintenance, administrative tools, local security policy.

    (2) develop local policies, Security Options.

    3) double click on accounts: limit local account passwords using empty for the connection to the console, which is enabled by default. Disable this option and click OK.

  • HA or FT for the maintenance of the server?

I'm spinning upwards a new print server into our VMWare / ESXi 5.5 environment.

Of course, I would be able to take it offline for maintenance (updates in service packs, microsoft updates, etc.) without keeping the whole of the company to be able to print.

I have HA cluster fault tolerance and Setup connecting to our network of vmotion enabled. I can activate FT on a test of the virtual machine.

So how I 'failover' in secondary VM and the newspaper in the fermenter to make updates? Then, I would need to return to the use of the primary. And push the changes to the secondary image.

Also, by the way, I had to do all this work in the thick client. Appear my VM primary and secondary in the thick client, but not in the web client.

    Thank you!

The answer is no... you can get what you want with the comments... clustering solution VMware solutions, as HA/FT can provide better availability of your virtual print server machine, but to do maintenance on the guest operating system, you will need to an other 'active' OS serving guest users, which is not the case of HA/FT.

  • maintenance mode > reboot > network works.

I have used ESXi 5.1.0 (Build 799733) on a Home Desktop/Server for six months, and I have done up and down the system several times. Recently I was going to have a planned interruption and decided to put the system in "maintenance" mode (life the vSphere client) now when I turn on the system it is impossible to access the network no matter what I seem to do. I can ping myself very well. The system to see that there is a network because I can see the status of connected network connection vmnic0. I think the system in maintenance mode and then cut off the power supply did something funky with the network settings. I look at the following articles of the KB, but it worked. Any other ides?

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 9639912

I'm tempted to reset the configuration of the system, but I hesitated because I don't know what he would do.

After having replaced the nic with a new edge card, the network is back.

  • Use the second router to extend the network to Time Capsule

I have a v7.6.7 running Time Capsule 1 TB and older airport. I'm hoping to add a second router in a new location, and I use an ethernet cable from the TC at the new router (TP Link Archer C5), updated to the latest version of the firmware. The IP address of the TC is 192.168.1.1.

I have set up my router C5 as follows: allocation of IP 192.168.1.199, value DHCP = off, and I connect a cable between the TC ports and port WAN (not Internet) available on the C5. In the C5 wireless settings, I tried both using the TC SSID and pw and creating a new SSID and pw. In both cases, the network will work for a short time, but eventually the entire network, including the TC, stops working. I made no changes to the parameters of the TC on any trial.

Is it possible to use a TC and a router not Apple on the same network? If so, what are the right settings for the TC and the secondary router? If not, is it better to have the not Apple as main router and add the TC to the network created by the non-Apple router?

Is it possible to use a TC and a router not Apple on the same network? If so, what are the right settings for the TC and the secondary router?

Yes. That would be the basis of a network of mobile type.

The key for a roaming network parameters are:

    • The 'primary' router must be configured as a router. In other words, it must have active NAT and DHCP services.
    • All other routers used in a network of roaming must be reconfigured as a bridge.
    • All routers must broadcast a Wi - Fi network that uses the same network (SSID, aka) name, and the type of wireless security, and the password.
    • All routers must be interconnected by Ethernet. To provide Powerline adapters using an Ethernet connectivity should also work.

If not, is it better to have the not Apple as main router and add the TC to the network created by the non-Apple router?

Should not really which is the main in the roaming network.

I think at this point, your current circuit line. To check that, I would suggest that you consider to bring back the router C5 in the same room as you have the TC. Then connect it directly to one of the LAN of the TC ports. Complete the entire upward to a mobile network and test it. If everything works, bring back the C5 in the desired location, and then try again.

If it fails, then the circuit line will be tested to check that it provides a solid 'Ethernet' connection between the adapters.

  • The network volumes fall, Finder crashes

This problem is reproducible on two of my machines to date.

    The installation program:

    1. Mount a network volume (in this case DSM Synology NAS 6.0.2 - 8451 Update 1)
    2. From an application (in my case the Pages, but it happened in Word as well), save a document on the volume

    The result:

    • The document does not record
    • Disassemble the network volume
    • Finder crashes, recovery is no help
    • The application where I save also crashes and not even the activity monitor or a process kill Terminal will stop the process to run

I thought that this might be related to Adobe Creative Cloud, Dropbox or folder by default, but I can reproduce this problem with all these apps does not. I am now more convinced than ever that this is a bug of networking of Sierra, but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, have you been able to solve it?

    Thank you very much.

Just in case where somebody comes here first of all, as I did, a tour on the Synology forums confirms that there is a bug in the implementation of the AFP on Synology readers - and perhaps other NAS drives do not do by Synology. Apparently Apple has changed the Protocol quite that save files to a network volume will crash Finder and hang the tent application of the Save.

The solution is to get any volume of network via SMB. So instead of cmd - K and typing afp://your-volume-name you smb://your-volume-name. Simple enough and it seems to work around the problem.

  • Extreme drop airport utility but the network still doesn't work?

    Hello

I hope you can help and I don't know if I'm worried for nothing, but it began to annoy me now.

First of all the details of my network are as follows:

Cable modem connection cable-> Cat 6 to airport extreme (new model height) which acts as a router for any network-> Branches out of there at an old airport extreme (flat square one) and new height time capsule.

Once the old extreme and time capsule are in Bridge mode to extend the network, because they are wired into the new AE.

This morning was faltering then checked connection airport utility.  Two new AE and TC had the warning triangle and were asking to be "forgotten" to the network.

Reset the new AE and airport utility picked up so I put up from scratch and has received the green light nice and everything was fine!

Then implement the TC.  The minute that this was recorded on the network, even in Bridge mode, which suggested the airport utility, the new AE got the dreaded yellow triangle and asked to forget.

I've done a few times now, step by step, update that I will and I can not all 3 on the network "green lit" as they used to be.  I used the app to radar network and it is smooth or duplicate IP addresses, but most annoying network works like a charm.  The only unit with the appropriate settings for access to the internet is the new AE - all the other boxes are simply fill these parameters therefore, even with the yellow triangle, it always seems to work.

Am I worry for nothing, or is there something I should be concerned?  An idea is an update which was pushed caused some problems?

I'm under El Capitan 10.11.6 and 6.3.6 airport utility.

All iOS devices in the House, running the airport utility in a show the same problem too.

    Thank you

There are many posts here lately related to this.

A 'solution' refers to those who have set up their base stations for Back to My Mac. If you did, how to follow recommended action is temporarily remove or disable this option, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the base and then station, select change.
    • On the tab of the Base Station, go back to the section of my Mac at the bottom of the window.
    • If you have entries here, select it and click then the minus sign "-" button to remove it.
    • Click on update and allow the base station restart.
  • From Firefox blocks all access to the network

Before you start the FF, I can access the Internet (with Chrome or IE), other computers, but as soon as I launch Firefox, all access to the network (including the connection to other computers) is blocked. In addition, my computer will turn off more.

As far as I KNOW, I have not installed lately extensions or add-ins.

Thank you for your resolution. Today, when I mentioned to work, I was told to update Firefox. This seems to do the trick (so far, fingers crossed!).

  • Airport express - is no longer the network extension

For six years, took the extreme of the airport, with two Airport express network expanded throughout the House provision.

Then I completely reset the device to factory settings and reconfigured back to expand network through the Airport on Mac utility.

I still have the same problem!

Tried to contact Apple support, telephone support is obviously expired but still difficult to write, call, or buy an extended support, I am stuck in a loop with: "we're sorry. We are unable to respond to your request at this time. Please try again or come back later.15696390-8f63-4da2-816e-f58a820d350d'

Would appreciate some advice from the community? Could avoid resetting the Airport Extreme that I didn't have to go to the length of the reconfiguration of the entire home network and services... !

    Thanks in advance.

Powering two devices of the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express

    Wait a minute

Turn on the AirPort Extreme and run a full minute

Then, turn on the kitchen Express and run a full minute

    Check the network

If no luck, repeat the same procedure as above, but perform a hard reset on the Express before attempting to set up again

If still no luck, the age of the Express can come into play. The average useful life of the Express is about 3-4 years.

Try the 'other' Express in the kitchen. If it works, then you know that your "old" kitchen Express must be replaced.

  • Not reflected in the network system preferences utility airport settings

    Airport Express model A1264

    Airport Utility 5.6.1

    Firmware 7.6.7

    MacBook OS 10.6.8

Hello, I am trying to sort out why the Airport utility settings are not the same as the settings in system preferences > network > airport.  If I make a change in Airport utility, it does not change the settings in advance under network options in system preferences and vice versa.  Network names are the same and all other parameters, except the IP numbers are different. (Note: when asked to "Join other network" one and only network name I entered comes up.) All this occurred as a result of a new service by satellite being installed in our premises (I'm in Australia and we have a 'NBN Satellite' service).  IP address in system preferences > network seems to be the IP number, I received when the new system has been activated and the computer that is directly connected by ethernet cable to the modem.   The IP address of the Airport utility is the Airport Express IP number.  I guess that the first IP address is correct as I can connect the MacBook to the internet via Airport. To complicate things, it is that I have the additional problem of not being able to join the network using my MacBook Pro (OS utility 10.10.5, Airport 6.3.5). I get a message telling me to another computer is using IP number again xxxxxxxx test this last (or something similar).  I did originally a default zero value through the Airport utility menu using the MacBook (actually several times), but no change in system preferences > network settings. I think I should add the MacBook Pro Airport utility on the MacBook (which I have) to join the network created on the MacBook.   I use the MacBook for the e-mail and the spread of the internet, and the MacBook Pro should be able to join the network for software and other upgrades. The Airport Express has worked without problem for at least 4 years on our old satellite service. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

I'm trying to sort out why the Airport utility settings are not the same as the settings in system preferences > network > airport.

Setting affects only the Airport express airport utility. They do not change anything on the computer.

Setting in the preferences of the computer only affect the computer... They do not change anything on the express.

IP address in system preferences > network seems to be the IP number, I received when the new system has been activated and the computer that is directly connected by ethernet cable to the modem.

Are you a public IP address on the computer? In the old system, you most likely have a private IP address.

The computer really should NOT directly connect a modem... only a modem which has several ethernet ie is actually a router.

That will tend to make it more difficult to set up the express. The express should plug a pure modem... and then the computer plug in the express. In this case, the express would be the main router. (I don't like this setup but because the Express is not powerful enough for this job). As far as your express is the old N a wireless with a single ethernet port.

Honestly, do you a favor and buy another router from apple... the extreme... If you can't afford a new Gen6 then buy a Gen5 on ebay... around $60... immensely better.

The express can then extend the wireless... or just simply do serve airplay etc. as part of the network.

Tell us what model is the modem (+ router?) provided to you by your ISP?

And if you get a public IP address or private on the computer directly connected to it. We can work out the rest from there.

I'm in Melbourne... you can email me direct if you need to. Email is on my website.
