  • Pages BSD system calls and functions in the C library is missing

    Commands like socket man 2 or 3 man printf say there is no such page manual. How do we install the corresponding manual pages?

    I'm on Mac OS Sierra and XCode 8.0 is installed.

    I use zsh if the shell is important somehow.

    You need your environment variable MANPATH set to.: / usr/share/man: in zsh, if it is not. I have 8 of Xcode and the command line tools installed and no problems with the man pages, including those that you mentioned. I use Bash, zsh not.

    You can optionally extend the MANPATH search by adding/usr/local/share/man order: and let you check out these pages added to this place by non-Apple software.

  • make a boot disk

    I'm doing a startup disk, a boot disk.  I have several disks usb, 1, 2, 3 TB, or I could use a flash drive, if he stands on a 32 GB flash drive, that is.  I suppose that it wouldn't be as people online sell everywhere to help people who find it difficult to install el crapitan.  Many of them must be as one of the amazon sellers showed 4000 available: 39 left.  Ouch.  I can't el crapitan to install to save my life.  It crashes, never works.  The importance of the support of apple is suggesting that I say 'Yes' when I start, as I have to "accept" the agreement from apple before, even though I told her is not the problem, she sent me a book of instruction page three on how to start el crapitan and to proceed with the installation, you have to say yes, and you will need to acceptt their agreement.  Yes, I did.  no problem with this part.  but it's that the things she and the two girls before and both were subsequently in the same boat.  Mr President, let me send you instructions on how to download it.  "No, I say, I did.  Do you really think someone is struggling to push a button that says "download?  Obviously, Yes. because she sent me instructions, once again, no joke, on how to push the button so he can 'download '.  Complete with how to do it with your finger and how if you have a plug in the mouse, with a separate section if you have a wireless mouse.  Hell me silly.

    O.K. HELP!  El CRAPITAN won't complete the upgrade process.  Please tell me if it takes normally 8 to 12 hours on your systems.  I guess he was hanged and killed the process.  rebooted, retried... same thing.  anything after 12 hours or more.  Yes, I used the pad on my Apple Macbook Air 11 '', i7, 4 GB ram, 250 GB SSD.  I do not use a wireless mouse.  I have not used a wireless mouse.  I did no harm to press download, and after I did, it succeeded because it was changed to read "DOWNLOAD"... "If there are employees of apple here who have not... so much worse.  If you work for Apple, leave, just freaking leave I have no more time or patience for you.  Just trust me the O.K. FREAKING the COMPLETE DOWNLOAD.  O.K.?  Because it gives an error message when I tried to install from the same disk.  Then I tried to install it from a second disc, a key USB WD 3 TB.  Seems to hang.  (Tell me whether I should WAIT WAIT 15 HOURS OR MORE for the thing to check.)  Anyway, it does not work.  So I found a TON of entries, some are already selling thousands of them, for small usb thumb drives flash of various sizes, called the STARTUP disk, so...

    I guess el Crapitan must be installed on a PARTITION AMORCABLE where in the CAR.  Something that it would have been so freaking sweet if they would have SAID THAT SOMEWHERE some TIME no matter WHEN IN THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PACKAGE ON THEIR SITE.  OK, so I think I ned a diskette formatted in some way.  Me color cheap, stupid, whatever.  But rather than buy on online at Amazon, I thought how hard can it be?  I can do it.  Big mistake.  Create a disc a disc of starting, or bootable used to be in the old days an easy as pie thing...

    However the Apple support site, helps him terminal programs, man pages diskutil, the program Apple accessories disk utility supplies, NOT HAVING ANY HELP DRIVE of FILES THAT BOOK REFERENCE, START UP DISK or any combination of the same, you know... How can you, how can you do a... whatever.  nothing. isn't there.  And here, in the consumer help pages.  No messages that are either.

    It's not rocket science.  It can be done.  How to make a boot disk?  How to format a disk a bootable floppy.  or a book drive, no matter what.

    And if y ' All are Apple support staff, and if you tell me that I pressed the wrong download button or I pulled the single button in the wrong order... I take my mac to a shooting range and shooting it be shot to pieces and displaying it on iTunes.  And never, never, ever, buy a mac or an apple anything.  , so, this whole experience has soured me I could never do that either.

    What do you know?

  • launchd guard reappearance of script task

    OS 10.10.5 Yosemite

    I have a plist to run a script once a day at 03:35.  Unfortunately, as soon as the script ends, it is restarted, over and over again. Since it is an administrative task, to be run by root, the plist is in/library/LaunchDemons /.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

        <key>ProgramArguments</key>
        <array>
            <string>/bin/sh</string>

            <key>Minute</key>
            <integer>35</integer>
        </dict>
    </dict>
    </plist>

    I tried add / remove several different entries for people with disabilities, KeepAlive, StartInterval, you name it.  No matter what I do, whenever I have to "load" the plist with LaunchCtr, the script starts running.  If I manually kill the process, it simply restarts.  What's cute, it's that I copy a 4 GB file over a network connection.  As soon as the copy is complete, the script restarts, reset the file and copy it again.  I can do all kinds of stuff, like the verification of the existence of the file, to work around this problem.  However, I would rather know what I'm doing wrong with LaunchD.

    I suspect your script ranges in the background, which would mean launchd couldn't tell if it was running or not. See the man page launchd.plist (5).

  • 'open f' keeps temporary files

    I try to use 'open f' in the Terminal to channel the TextEdit MAN page output, as follows:

    Open man | Col b | Open f

    where,

    f - reads the entries from standard input and open the results in the default text editor.  ...

    It seems to me that the open command creates a temporary file (/tmp/open_*.txt) from stdin, then called TextEdit with that temporary file name.  This temporary file is not deleted after I closed TextEdit.

    Is there a way to force either open or TextEdit to automatically remove this temporary file?

    TextEdit has command line arguments?  If so, how can I know what they are?

    Can open pass entry standard to other applications (I do not see anyway obvious)?

    Since the current version of the server seems to ignore the Server Side Includes, whenever the machine restarts (well documented on this site for awhile), it is necessary to connect to the server application and the switch SSI works to operate again.  My problem occurs when the server is an automatic restart due to software updates and I'm not aware that it has restarted so my sites can be broken until I have check them.

    I have only the skills in the terminal, but is there a way I can say the electronic machine (or text/message) me when the system performs a reboot?

    You will need to create a launchd daemon that runs once at startup and triggers a script to send mails. See the man page launchd.plist (5) for more details and also to search for tutorials. See also below a possible trap.

  • using the FC command with the GUI drag & drop

    In Windows 95 and 98, it was possible to make a shortcut to the "CF" MS-DOS command on the desktop, and then compare two files by drag & dropping them on the shortcut.

    However, starting from Windows XP, while this still TECHNICALLY works, the MS-DOS window (I do not remember what to call other than "command prompt window", so bear with me) will close immediately upon expiration of the program, making it impossible to read the results, especially if it is "no differences encountered".

    I remember that there was no decent way to solve this problem in XP, but is there a solution to Vista or 7? Typing long file names can be heavy, and even by using copy and paste is tedious compared to the ease, I remember not on Windows 9 X.

    Oh, I just had a thought when you think of batch files. I tried to add a pause at the end command. That seemed to work. It has been long since I made a batch file that needed the pause command. I don't know why I thought using a batch file with a command to break a decade ago.

    Oh and thanks for the link explaining the differences in the manufacture of the batch files. I learned how to 3.30 in 1990 for MS-DOS batch files and never really learned anything new other than the fact that I could use drag-n - drop in Windows 95.

    Is there something else that I could learn a few new tricks that have been introduced since MS-DOS 3.30? I _might_ have read books for MS-DOS 4 or 5 at the time, because there weren't really that many differences. The only different things I knew were the dosshell in MS-DOS 4, Edit & QBASIC in MS-DOS 5 and extended external help of 6.2.2 MS-DOS command which was similar (although I didn't know it until the end of the 1990s) for Unix man pages. Oh, and in one of these versions, they also did better? parameter help messages.

  • USB stick on c6180

    I'm trying to scan a document to a USB key, which is connected to my C6180 all in one.  The drive is flashing, I show that it is active, but when I select SCAN TO MEMORY the printer says MEMORY DEVICE NOT FOUND.

    Any solution?  Thank you!

    Hello

    It's the man page, #63:

    Scan an original to a memory card or storage device

    You can send the scanned image as JPEG image in the memory card which is currently inserted or a storage device that is currently attached to the front USB port. This allows you to use the photo printing options to print runs without border and the scanned image album pages.

    Note If the HP all-in-one device is connected to a network, you can access the image only if the card or device is shared on the network.

    To save a scan to a memory card or storage device

    1. make sure that your memory card is inserted in the suitable location on the HP all-in-one, or a storage device is connected to the prior port USB
    2. load your original face to print down in the corner before right from the glass.
    3. press the button Menu Scan.
    4. press to select Scan to memory card, then press OK.
    The HP all-in-one scans the image and saves the file in the memory storage or the map in JPEG format.

    Probably the OP needs to put the USB device on the network (share) to be able to scan to it.

    Kind regards.

  • Error message when you try to connect a K8200 3D program to a K8200 3D printer.

    Site of the Lim has been no help.  Manage the msg of error complains of "no com4/com/port". "No serial port not defined" or words to that effect.  The program has connected previously but had other issues.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Edokus

    This seems to be a problem with the software that you use with your printer and not a Windows problem.

    Unfortunately, neither the manufacturer of the printer, Velleman, nor the manufacturer of software, Repetier, seems to have good management.  They both rely mainly on forums that are not particularly active.

    K8200 forums: http://forum.velleman.eu/viewforum.php?f=45

    Repetier forum: http://forum.repetier.com/categories/repetier-host

    RepRap forum: http://forums.reprap.org/list.php?267

    As near as I can make, your error message refers to a problem with the connection between your computer and the printer.  As explained in the online manual for the K8200, when you install the driver required a "USB serial port" named COMxx must have been created.  See http://www.k8200.eu/manual/printing/?c=002

    The next step is to install the Repetier-host software.  Interestingly, K8200 online manual says to install the version 0.84 of the software because it is good enough, and "we are working on compatibility of newer versions."  Unfortunately, this old version is no longer available directly from Repetier.  The current version is 1.6.2 and earlier versions 1.5.6 1.0.6 and 0.95F are available.  A post on the K8200 forum suggests that 0.95F works and provides a link from the k8200 site (the same link is on the main page of downloads K8200 (http://www.k8200.eu/support/downloads/).  See http://forum.velleman.eu/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=17955

    Assuming you have version 0.84 or 0.95F of the Repetier-Host is installed, you should start, go to "Printer settings" and Configure the software to use the "USB serial port" with the number created by installing driver.

    Screenshots which describes the process above are to the K8200 man page link above.

    If you've done all this correctly and still having the problem, I suggest you search/post on the K8200 forum: http://forum.velleman.eu/viewforum.php?f=49

    2. in the printer software, click the estimated ink levels.

    the ink level indicator will be inaccurate or unavailable.
    2 NOTE: ink level warnings and indicators to provide estimates for planning only. When you receive a low-ink
    warning message, consider having an available replacement cartridge to avoid possible printing delays. You don't have to replace cartridges until print quality is unacceptable.
    NOTE: 3 ink cartridges is used in the printing process in a number of different ways, including in the initialization process, which prepares the product and cartridges print, and maintenance of the heads, which keeps the nozzles to clear printing and ink circulation. In addition, some residual ink is left in the cartridge when it is used. For more information, see
