Measuring current using USB-6009 with a rheostat shunt resistance

Hi all, I am an electronic engineering student doing my final year project. I am able to measure the current and voltage of a 9V battery, but not knowing the method that I use if it is correct.

For the voltage, I have no problem getting it. But for the current, I connected a resistance of 1 k in parallel with the battery. When I run the program, I have a 9mA for battery. I understand when you use the DAQ assistant, for the installation of measuring current for USB-6009, that I need to specify as "external" shunt resistance and shunt resistance value (which is 1 k for the above experience).

So, my question is when I use a rheostat as shunt resistance, what value should we indicate as a rheostat is a variable resistor, so it doesn't have a fixed value.

Or the dimmer cannot be shunt resistance?

Really need help and thank you for the reply.

  • Can I synchronize and AI on USB-6009 with meter?

    Hi all

I use USB-6009, LV 8.5 under windows XP. I want to generate signals synchronized with Amnesty International. I know that I can not use the sample as DO clock clock. But can I use the card counter to synchronize and AI? And can someone give some similar examples? Thank you!

The unit will display whenever you call writing DAQmx. It is more complicated than that. And synchronization is practically based on the flow of data and when you want to generate the digital output from the analog input.

  • With the help of USB-6009 with LabView 8.0

I try to use a USB-6009 with LabView 8.0 box.  I DAQmx 8.8 (that came with the unit) installed and verified that the 6009 works correctly through MAX I also read on this site that the 6009 is compatible with LabView 7 or more.  However, I am unable to get LabView to recognize the device.  Using LabView, to use a DAQ hardware I have to select "Input" in the palette 'Functions'  But there is no range "Input".  Actually I can't find the DAQ Assistant Express VI anywhere.

Do I need to use a different version of the DAQmx?  If so, which and where can I find it?

    Thank you.

LabVIEW 8.0 is not supported with DAQmx 8.8. I think that the last version with support for 8.0 is DAQmx 8.6.1. You can uninstall 8.8 and install 8.6.1. You should really consider upgrading your version of LabVIEW. NOR has decided to limit support for 7.1 8.0 just now. The latest version of DAQmx manages to only 8.2.x and higher.

  • Line of two-way digital for data asynchronous series using USB-6009?

    Hello

I'm rather new to the LabVIEW environment, so I'm a little confused about this.

I have a signal conditioner chip (MAX1452), which I am trying to communicate with via the digital line.

The line is a bidirectional asynchronous, half-duplex serial.

I am currently trying to put up with a USB6009, and basically what I try to do is to write digital data (1 start bit, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, TTL logic) the smart and read the answer back. Is it possible to reconfigure a digital port on the USB-6009 case between an input and an output?

Or is there a better way for me to implement this?

    Thank you.

    Hi Gabriel,

It is not possible to simultaneously have a digital line on a product OR be out and a digital input.  It is possible using the DAQmx controls, you can create a virtual channel that is a digital output, write data and disable the task.  After that, you can try to create a new virtual channel which is a digital input, read the data and disable the task.  However, the USB-6009 is a simple device, so it can not support this feature.

  • OR USB-6009 with op-amp to amplify the analogue output

    Hello.

I use an NI USB-6009 data acquisition to send a signal to a proportional pressure regulator which varies the pressure of pneumatic system. Unfortunately, the controller of pressure requires a signal of order analog 0 - 10V and the 6009 can 0 - 5V.

So I thought I'd build a small circuit with a gain of 2 to amplify the signal. See photos attached to a schema and the picture of the installation. The 741 operational amplifier is powered by a 24V DC power supply. 24V is a bit on the side high to the op-amp but I have this supply already built in and (using a supply of laboratory bench) the circuit works exactly the same in 12-18 v.

Bascially, with voltages of entry of 5 up to 2 volts, the circuit behaves perfectly. The output is just the input multiplied by two.

However, the output is never less than 3.9 volts (ish), regardless of the input voltage.

Can anyone suggest a solution (or know where else to ask)? I really need to be able to control my production within the range of 1 - 10V.

    Thank you very much. John

Yes, a LM358 should work.  You will not be able to get all the way up to 0 v, but it should get you up to 0, 5V or almost.  The LM358 is a dual op amp, then you will not be able to deposit into the same outlet as your 741.  You can probably get away with leaving half disconnected unused.  (Which is not true of all double operational amplifiers).

  • IM using usb-6009 input signal acquisition

IM acquirng a domain controller of the signal in the analog input (CSR), a volt of entry in 1.9 ports V is read on the (ai0) port of entry when I use a multimeter to read the value and at the same time I used an indicator to show the data read in the port of entry in my code, the led will turn to 2.5 sometimes 4V... If any body could help me this please answer me...

I have another doubt too, I read a document in which they mentioned everything using the CSR that the positive end of the source must be connected to the analog input channel and the negative end to the ground in the acquisition of data... but its im using a dc signal I don't have how to connect and what to do...

    Hi Lisette,

I Don t know what could happen. However, this could be a wiring problem.

First of all, if you read this signal I'll recommend over the analog GND with your digital GND. You also this thread from the mass of the signal.

Another thing, you might be able to do is to measure in differential mode, you can connect your 6009 NOR as the multimeter.

  • Analog generation using USB-6259 with C native

    Hello

I've developed a sort of access library (with a unified interface for all types of tasks) for device 6259 and I don't know how to generate an analog voltage (other reports probably too) the way I want. I can generate finite or continuous signals, but only with the specified buffer samples (the signal is so very periodic). My intention is to use everyNSamplesEvent to change the contents of the buffer, so I can easily generate user-defined signals. I noticed the change in buffer is done when the task is stopped. But I don't want to stop the task to swap the contents of the buffer. How can I do this?

    Hello

You develop this application using LabWindows CVI or Measurement Studio?
Can you please tell me what the DAQmx driver version are you using?

You can see this example if you are using LabWindows CVI.

If I understand correctly you want a non regenerated output.
Please let me know your status.

It is also a quick way to test that with using a switch, one of lines DI/O connect to the input of meter. Then turn on/off the line. It is just a validation test, but it's a classic 'demo' of the counter entry in several tutorials I've seen. But yes the switch scheme would be necessary to see what is happening.

  • measurement of current with usb-6009

Hi, my name is hung and I am a student in electrical engineering... I'm doing a thesis that the project using Labview and acquisition of data NOR UBS-6009 to simulate the function generator, Oscilloscope, Digital Microsoft (DMM)... and now I'm simulating DMM. I managed to measure the voltage and resistance which i use voltage divider method, but I encountered a problem with the current measurement. The problem is the USB-6009 to measure use the current, it measures an incorrect value. I tried to use the current CQI 0-20mA Sample.vi example but it always measures an incorrect value. If NI USB-6009 supports for the measuring current? Is there a way to measure the currents using USB-6009? Please, help me. This thesis project is so important for me. Thank you.

    Hung,

Since you are a student in electrical engineering, I'll show you how to know the answers to your questions.

    1. review the specifications for the USB-6009 case.  In particular look at the specifications of analog input.

    2. How would you measure current if you had only a voltmeter?  Use the same method with the USB-6009 case.  (Tip: apply the Ohm's law).

General comment: when using any measuring instrument, always consider maximum permitted values at the entrances so that the instrument is not damaged

    and the measure is accurate.

Let us know how you do.

  • motor current by using NI USB-6009

Is there a way to measure current of a motor with the NI USB-6009 case? I understand that I must use I = V/R. But it seems that with this concept, I would have losses for the engine, so I used a small resistance and measure the voltage across it. I'm trying to get a reading of the Spike current with a voltage to an engine No. Thanks for the help.

    -Nick

The shunt would be just to go online with the engine and measure the voltage drop across the resistance.

  • OR USB-6009 can produce the constant current source/sink?

    Hi all

    I have a card NI USB DAQ to 6009. I need a battery for constant (charge/discharge current<1mA) and="" simultaneously="" monitor="" its="">

I was wondering if I can use USB-6009 of output constant source/sink of charge/discharge current the battery? I've seen a few threads that says 6009 impossible to output constant son of currents, but other says we can use the digital output to provide the current, but it was not only described how.

    Thank you.

All the outputs of the USB-6009 case are sources of tension and all have current limits low. There is no way to generate outputs current controlled directly from this device.

What I would do (and have done) is to build circuits of external current source/sink with an op amp or a transistor and allows you to enable or disable a digital output of the USB-6009. If the current must be adjustable, use an op amp circuit that takes an input of the analog output of the USB-6009 voltage to set the current.  Use an analog input channel to monitor the battery voltage.

  • acquisition of USB-6009 2 inputs

    Hello

I currently use a usb-6009 with labview 7.1 and DAQmx 8.1 to read the data in a file LVM to a sampling rate of 40 kHz.  Everything works perfectly when I read only one channel.  Problem is that I have to read 3 channels and when I put the DAQ assist to read 2 channels, max sampling rate is 24kHz, which is not enough for the problem.

Then, I thought I could handle by reading just one channel at a time at 40 kHz (with digital input to determine which channel).  Is this possible?  When I put in place DAQ assistant with more channels, I can't select a sampling rate of 40 kHz.  I know that you cannot open several DAQ assistant for analog inputs, so I tried to solve this problem by creating a main program with subroutines, each using a DAQ passes, but still got the error: "the specified resource is reserved. The operation could not be performed as indicated. ».

I tried to put in place without the DAQ Assistant, but had an error: specified is not valid or does not exist "(error code 200088) that seems to be a known an irreparable problem on labview 7.1." (also I guess I'm having the same error of the resource is reserved as I did in the DAQ assistant)

Is it possible that I can put in place a program to read an analog input to 40 kHz on a channel, and then switch to another channel and do the same thing?

    Thank you

    Herman

Of course, but you must stop and cancel the previous task before starting another. Obviously is that since you get this error.

  • Pull-up external USB-6009. digital output (open collector) allows onboard external + 2.5 V output?

Pull-up external USB-6009. digital output (open collector) allows onboard external + 2.5 V output?

    Hello

I want to config output digital USB-6009 to + 2.5 V above and 0 V digital output low. I know I can config USB-6009 digital output open collector with resistance to pull-up external, that can be applied with + 2.5 V power source.

My question is: can I use USB-6009 Board + 2.5 V output as the current source of resistance to pull-up? What resistance is a good number for the resistance to pull-up, if I can use this configuration?

Thank you much for the help.

    Cathy

    Hi Cathy,.

The digital USB 6008 front-end server looks like this:

So, there is actually an internal pullup to 5V 4.7 kOhm resistance when the device is configured to open collector.

If you want to display 0 to 2.5 V, I would look in a resistance of polarization of 4.7 kOhm between c and ground (according to the rest of your tour).

    Best regards
