  • HP Media Center M7690N: upgrade network adapter Gigabit - what card to replace the product to install

Hi, this could be a long post for something simple then I apologize in advance.

I recently updated my cable modem, router wireless at HQ and 150mbps broadband internet services. Came and went with the support technique of ISP and modem manufacturer and max results with speedtest I can get up to 92mbps. Seems that everything goes well on their ends. Not sure, but I suspect the 10/100 network adapter is my limit. So I bought a PCI Gigabit card and now I don't know what location to use. There is a dial-up modem connection in a slot and a wireless local area network (that I don't need) card in another. I thought I'd be able to recognize what PCI slot to use if there is a connector cable ethernet to one of the cards, but no. The ethernet connection is on a frame connected to the motherboard... so I was wondering if someone would have an idea to which PCI slot to swap? The Dial-up modem card or wireless Lan slot? Or is the network card built into the motherboard?

I learned that the peak of out to something like 130mbps PCI slots so I'm not expecting to get all the way to speed 150mbps broadband, but I would like to get as close as I can. And hope I'm on the right track with change of the network card.

Last year, I improved the two 1 TB hard drives each in a Raid? stripped configuration, maxed out at 8 GB memory and added new Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The little girl runs really well. I just wanted to give my trusty HP one more push.

Any idea would be appreciated... Thank you very much.

I'd rather have an insightful dialogue than to have to ask you some questions.

You motherboard has 3 PCI slots.   Update external wireless modem does not help you support system that the internal Wi - Fi card does not match his speed, it's an old map of Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g.  The remote access card is actually a 56K bps modem data / fax, useless, unless your in Fax?  According to the HP website, you also have a PCI TV card (you do not have to mention)?

    (1) if the Fax is not used, remove the card. Use this location.

    (2) the old wireless card is now useless.

    (3) be aware you will lose Media Center if you ever upgrade to win 10 and many more.

Well, you did ask!  Treat the daughter of old nice. You have until 2020 to JanRead this also. Fun.

  • With windows media center on the network.

I have my directv and computers connected to the internet and I try to use windows media center, but it says that it cannot find the tuner when I try to set up the tv. I have a Toshiba A215 with Windows Vista home premium (which apparently has no tuner). I need a tuner since I have everything connected to a network?  My tv wil recognize the computer: I use directv VOD and can get pictures from my computer, but the library does not recognize the tv. I use media center as it seems it would be an easy way to organize media.  I was also wondering if you can use media center or y at - it another way to other internet videos on TV (i.e. youtube...).  I have some suggestions that I'm not a person savy very tech.

You will need a TV tuner card for watching live TV in Media center. If you already have a TV Tuner card and you get this error, then update
the drivers for your TV tuner card to solve the problem.

  • HP Media Center PC unable to acess wifi networks

I recently moved and just unpacked my HP Media Center PC desktop computer that is running Windows Vista.

I have 2 other computers running on my network wifi with no problem, one Mac and a PC. For some reason, it seems that on the HP Media Center PC wireless LAN is not working. He cannot recognize all networks in my building, and I know that there is a lot of range, including the one that set up for the apartment.

Is it possible to toggle the wifi on the desktop? What can I do to check/fix/activate? I googled had a ton of stuff, none of which seemed to work.

    Thank you!

Hello mattyg12, as I see it, the wireless card requires and external antena, as mentioned in the book loads.

I've never seen a without an external antena internal wireless card, but there may be some.

The built-in wireless adapter may have worked at your other place without external antena, if the computer was close to the wireless router. The wireless signal would be greatly reduced without external antena.

You can buy these antenas from many sources at a reasonable price if you do not find one that should have been shipped with your system.

You can also buy a wiresless USB adapter that fits simply into an available USB port. I have used many of them, and they work great.

I don't think that you will never get the wireless computer to connect to the router or another device like a USB adapter wireless wireless wireless without the antena.

If you go with the USB adapter, you will need to enter the Device Manager and disable the current wireless (the one without the antena) device so it would not conflict with a USB wireless adapter.

    I hope this helps.

  • Add the network location in Windows Media Center for recorded TV

Locations of tv settings, tv, recorder, more Windows Media Center does not outside of the local computer.  I used Media Center to record some TV shows and I want to spend my laptop on USB large network of an old desk for viewing later.   Because I can't point to this place I'm stuck.
The files are on USB key and visible in windows media player and video location in Windows Media Center.  In other words, none of the news of the series is visible in Windows Media Center (but is in windows media player), so I can't continue to record series because Windows Media Center is not aware of the episodes already on USB network.

    Hello Johngi2,
Thank you for your message.  To change the location of your recorded TV shows and always keep the info so that you won't get duplicates please browse to the following location in Media Center.

I have a Player LG Blu - ray wireless connected to my home network.  Configuration of the network connection to the format Blu - ray says it is successful, and it is capable of downloading movies on the shared internet connection.  My management software from the network router (WRT610N model) Cisco Linksys® Network Magic Pro displays the Blu - ray player on its network card device.  LG Blu - ray player is a certified DLNA DMP (digital media player) device and the software supplied LG Nero MediaHome 4 (Server DLNA media graduate) successfully concludes the LG Blu - ray device when it starts.  So far, I've been unable to get the Windows 7 Media Center (supposed to be a media graduate DLNA server) to find my network Blu - ray player.  But the problem is more than just that the Media Center do not find my network device, even the 7 network and sharing Center window is not this network device when I select «View full map»  When I go to printers and devices on Windows 7 and select 'Add a device', it does not find my device of network Blu - ray player that passes by the Cisco Network Magic software and Nero MediaHome 4 software.  So what prevents the network of Microsoft Windows 7 software and Media Center software to my LG Blu - ray network player?

Media Center Extender technology owns and uses any DLNA.

  • How to record TV with Media Center (Windows 7) to a network drive?

Well, you would think that the new MediaCenter Windows 7 would live up to the recording of your TV for a network/player sharing. Nevermind, it seems that it is just not possible.

I have a windows 2008 R2 server and a Windows 7 machine with a TV card. Since my server has 2 TB of storage, it would be nice to save directly to a network drive. (I rode like Z :).

    I tried the following:

    1. By selecting Media Center itself: does not. Is not available.
    2. Editing the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording to RecordPath Z:\TV. Does not.
    3. Editing the registry: set RecordPath to \\server\TV. Does not.
    4. Create a symbolic link (mklink \D) of Z:\TV and \\server\TV with parameter in the registry under RecordPath.

I am currently out of options. I could of course install Windows7 on my server, but I have no license for this, and my windows 2008 r2 is free from dreamspark.

So: How is the world possible to make this work? And why not just MediaCenter detects my network sharing?

Record on the network is not supported.  The smallest hiccup of network could cause problems with registration, or even TV live as the recording buffer would be located at the remote location.

One thing you can do is to use Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 and its function of archive TV which you can configure to automatically move all your records or only those you want.
  • Why Media Center interfere with the master of local network discovery?

At home, I have a mixed network of 5 win7, XP 3, xbox, pills and devices multimedia TV.

The network relies on a specific working group name (that all windows computers use) not homegroup.

This works well until my Win7 computer that is configured as a DVR with media center becomes the 'master' for LANs to discover.  Then only the Win7 computers on my local network.  All the XP computers disappear.

Why is this and how do I solve this problem?

It feels like the 'master' for local networks is chosen randomly.

    Why Media Center interfere?

Can I stop this interference or inhibit the computer to be ever "master local network media center?"

I use a free app called lanscan to give me a list of computers available in each perspective of computers.  When the broken state this app fails to list anything except on the Media Center computer.  Lanscan also shows the computer hosting the network discovery.

    Thanks in advance.

I have over 30 years of experience with computers but my network is just enough to get me in trouble (and keep changing the rules)

  • Windows media center network (WMCN) uninterrupted actions - 97% of CPU!

    Hello

My characteristics: Win 7, IE9, 4 GB RAM, 320 disc only half used.

Media players: Windows media center, iTunes, RealPlayer.

Me: above the knowledge of the average user, but certainly not a techie.

Problem: Windows Media Center network shares nonstop and uses 97% of RAM memory. Norton kept alert me to very high CPU usage caused by Media Network Sharing. One or 2 cores, no clue. I ran diagnostics (msconfig, all the performance tools, etc.) I don't know what is sharing with or what. I have somehow cut off the connection. No luck. Finally, I disabled the WMCN, he eliminated as a player option and finally my cursor could pass with a little more enthusiasm. Yes, it was so bad. He is crawling and then he almost died.

Problem: at least I can now access this site! I ran a full system diag and it mentions the player once again, and superfetch. Reading the comments on MS Answers, there is a certain files with a good amount of info in the prefetch folder. Should I really delete this and then turn the superfetch? All my other effors failed.

Problem: She also said something too Exchange. Yes, much too much of a good thing I guess. It seems that 1 solution would be to select a paging size, instead of letting windows decide. Do you agree?

Problem: iTunes access is no longer the store and it no longer displays my library! I have contacted Apple and we talked for an hour, traded emials, but not luck. Libraries are there, may be moved, but I have used both iTunes & Real regularly for about 18 months. What gives? This happened after that windows media was synchronization/networking in all directions.

  • Media Center problem - no TV Signal then Service unavailable

I use WMC to record programs (it is not attached to a TV). Often programs will not register. WMC history will say: ' NO REGISTERED: NO TV SIGNAL. If a program starts recording, it records always completely and without problems. The error occurs only at the beginning of the recording.

I think that the problem lies in the length of the IR blaster to change the channel. After changing channels with WMC, it takes about 11 seconds for the channel is displayed on the WMC window. About 5 seconds the WMC window still no TV Signal. Then it's a race. If the "Service unavailable" error because then a second registration fails. If the TV picture appears first, it records very well.  Even if it fails with the error "Service not available", you can go choose the guide it a few seconds later, and it records very well. I'm hoping that there is a registry setting that could make WMC wait 15 to 20 seconds before calling the "Service unavailable". Or maybe a way to completely prevent the "Service unavailable" error check to run and force it to save anyway? Any other ideas?
