Windows Media Center won't play DVD. This program has played these exact DVD in September. These DVDs can be played on other devices. Error message indicates that there is a problem with the decoder, but don't tell me the code of error message. I searched other forums, but it is impossible to find an answer to this problem, except the recommendation of a codec - although I don't know how I "lost" the codec in the month. Microsoft Security Essentials have installed and up to date, if it is not a virus. Hello cowgurlup55,

In addition to the response of Santosh, please relay if the problem occurs when you play a DVD or a single. Please also relay if the same problem occurs when you try to play the DVD with Windows Media Player.

In addition, if you have an extra DVD decoder installed, then try to update the DVD decoding software.

  • Windows Media Center won't play video, but Windows Media Player will be?

I'm reading a video .avi with the xvid codec. I installed the codec earlier and it plays fine in Windows Media Player, but when I try to play in Windows Media Center, it indicates that one or more codecs are required to play this file, but they cannot be found. I know I would just watch with Windows Media Player instead of Media Center, but I want to watch it on my Media Center extension (my Xbox). I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit. Why does Windows Media Player with this codec and Windows Media Center not work? How can I solve this problem?

    -Slick05_1

    Hi Slick05_1,

Thanks for the replies on the forum.

Given that the Microsoft Vista Media Center and XBOX do not play the files suggest it would need to be a codec which solves the problem or maybe file conversion which would solve the problems you are experiencing.  Since the codecs for files is not something written by Microsoft, we do not have the information for that in our system.

What I suggest is to go to your search engine preferred and in the search line and typing "is possible to play VLC on XBOX.

    WARNING:

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

What I suggest also done an online search using your favorite search engine for "play MKV files in Vista x 64 Media Center" to find whether there may be suggestions about codecs or these codecs created by other organizations then Microsoft.

Please let us know if you are able to get this to work for you.

  • Xbox 360 Media Center won't play Albums

I use my 360 as an Extender for 4 years. About 2 months back my hard drive of the PC began to fail. So I bought a new PC and recovered all my music on the new PC (old and new were running Win7 64 bit). I plugged the 360 as an Extender again. Everything (Live TV, Recorded TV, pictures, etc.) works perfectly. When I try to play music by clicking on 'Play the Album' I get an error box. "Audio error" "year Error Occurred while trying to play your selection. If I go in the album and click on any song and click on 'Play song' it works without error.

I tried to delete an album from the hard drive and ripping again and this album plays very well when I click on "Play Album". So, the question is not network settings or firewall or proxy, etc.. I have re - rip each album, but spoke more than 300 and I'd rather not spend this time. I guess that when I copied the files on the old PC Win7 something again has been or has been marked properly. So I reset the security and ownership on the files and there was no change. Individual files will be read, but the albums are not.

I should also mention that "Play Album" works fine on the Media Center PC.

So, the big question is, when you click on "Play Album" 360 Media Center Extender, which looks at the system and what it takes to be able to play the album successfully?

  • Media Player does not play the .m4a file

I just want to know why my player will not play a file. The file says it's a media player .m4a... I tried to download a recent version of the player, but he said that I had a newer version of it and it wouldn't download. So if I have a new or updated version of the player, why used it play the file?

Windows Media Player uses the codecs to understand file formats. A codec is software that includes a particular file format. You will need to install a codec.

If you click Help on the Web in the dialog box it would have been explained to you.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/Webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.6000.6353&ID=C00D1199&ContextId=83&OriginalID=80040218

Also if you let Windows search for the appropriate program when dbl clicking the file it'll tell you what it is and what it can play.

Hello! Recently, when I tried to read a file .mp4 on Windows Media Player, the player would immediately stop working and tell me that he could not play this type of file, even if the day before he could do so without any problem. Back to a system restore point previous fixed the problem and I could again play the files in Media Player, but during the night that Windows updates installed and the morning I could not play these .mp4 files once more. So I restored to a point earlier, changed my updates so that they are is more automatic and by installing each day at a time, I finally isolated the problem in Internet Explorer 10. If I install that, just Windows Media Player will not play these files.
I tried a manual update of Internet Explorer 10, turn off all the options of toolbars shit and everything, thinking that when it automatically installs those who may be included, but that has not helped. Had to go back to my previous IE10 restore point. So no matter what, Internet Explorer 10 kills my ability to play .mp4 on Windows Media Player files.
I don't have toolbars running on IE9 at all.
I know that's obvious answer is 'do not install Internet Explorer 10' or if I do, download another player for .mp4 files. But the fact is, it shouldn't happen, it is indicative of something being wrong, and I would like TO be able to install Internet Explorer 10 AND use Windows Media Player to play these files. If someone else has had this problem, or know a way to fix it?
    Here are my system specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
    Intel Core i5 - 3350P @ 3.10 GHz CPU

And all my programs are installed on this:
SAMSUNG series Pro 840 MZ-7PD256BW 2.5 "256GB SATA III MLC internal Solid State Drive
I'd appreciate any help you can provide! Thank you!!

It sounds like your question. I think you should uninstall this update and

I tried myself after experiencing the same problem and error code. I uninstalled the KB2670838 update, and then my Windows Media Player finally worked again. I also found that IE 10 must be uninstalled as well. Installation of IE 10 also automatically installs the update of KB2670838 platform. After uninstalling KB2670838, IE 10 automatically uninstall with it, better you hide two updates so that they do not install again. From the link in the previous post, I learned that the platform update is having problems of conflict with the AMD drivers. Good luck to you and hope this helps.
