Media Player 11 in combination confusing of xp features but rigid stiffness and roundabout ways to put things

Without going through ALL the confusing quirks on media center immediately, I will focus on the question that I have for the moment... the Library tab is very convenient to sort/browsing my music... I now back up all my music on an external drive USB 1 TB... as it is, when it scans for music, I end up having every song that is on my internal hard drive AND my drive to exeternal listed TWICE in the library... very annoying when I play something that is only on an external drive, after clicking on 'Add to library' to update the new tunes that are on my USB... the only option seems to be to remove the USB key as a business case option, and then click Add to the library again... which would be hands-on, real power for media center having the separate library scans... a kind of library instantly selectable PROFILE... 1 reader internal only... 1 for my external hard drive WITHOUT having to go into the removal and the addition of records for supervision and time, etc... in any case, it is one of several issues I have, but will stay there for now. See you soon.

Hello Guitzme,

Thank you for your message.  There is an easier way to get rid of duplicate files.  You need locate the file in the library database, and then delete.  The location of the file is:
c:/use / (username) / local/Microsoft/Media Player
Then open the media player, select file > tools > Options
Select the 'Library' tab > click Advanced and set 1 single file so that it can monitor.  (This will remove other readers to import duplicate information)
Please let us know if it did or did not help to solve your problem.
See you soon

  • Windows Media Player will burn a data CD for us but not an audio CD.

Windows Media Player will burn a data CD for us but not an audio CD.  We have Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2.  Tried another brand of CD, slower burning speed, etc., but still does not.  And can not uninstall Windows Media Player and reinstall.  Help!

    Hi KathyDobrowolski,

    1. were you able to burn an audio CD before?

    2. what type of file you want to burn?

    3. This only happens with a particular file type?

    4. are you able to burn CDs with any other application?

    5. you receive messages or error codes?

If the song file is protected by the rights of use, these rights may allow for playback of the song on the computer but prohibit burn them on a CD. If the Information button appears next to the song in the burn list, click the button to see more information on the issue.

  • Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD. The disk has been created in a way that the player does not support

Original title: error reading from a photo cd

Error message "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD. The disk has been created in a way that the player does not support"when the disc is inserted into the PC HP Touchsmart yet he plays on the laptop.  Help please

    Hello

    (1) what is the file format of the photos on the CD?

    (2) you are able to play another CD/DVD on this computer?

    (3) have you made recent changes to the computer before the show?

    (4) is it a Blu - ray disc?

Install the codec for Blu - Ray. Your Blu - ray player should have come with a medium containing the codec. You can also use your favorite search engine and free research Blu - ray codec.
The Blu - ray disc format is not supported in Windows Media Player. To play a Blu - ray disc, you must use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu - ray playback and a device that can play Blu - ray discs.

If you have a program that supports Blu - ray, then I suggest you to use the Troubleshoot utility and check for the issue.

You can try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Play a CD or DVD in Windows Media Player

NOTE - using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

    I hope this helps.

  • For some reason any all the items on the left side of the start menu open to media player, I have tried earlier to get videos to play. And it doesn't let me do system restore

Each item in the left pane displays a video icon and therefore tries to open the media player, also I am not able to do the system restore

Well, the video files will open naturally in Windows Media Player.

You might want to try to reset your default programs:

Default Forums of Windows 7 Associations - restore - file Type

    ----------

    Also:

    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any breach of integrity

    Restart your system

    -----------

Check your hard drive for errors:

    Click Start

Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD

    Click on "Run as Administrator"

At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r

When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

    -------------

You can also have a virus. There are some that will hide your files/folders so that you don't normally see them. I strongly suggest to run a scan on your computer with your antivirus/antimalware software. If you need to, you can also use the Microsoft Safety Scanner, it's free:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Also, if your files are hidden, check out the following article on how to display the:

  • Windows Media Player 11 on XP SP2 has lost all its music library and will not allow him to add again.

I have the media player 11 and it worked very well.  Yesterday I opened a session and opened it, and there is no music in the library.  Playlists are still there.  I tried to manually add folders to watch. No joy.  When I repeated the procedure for adding, records Analyzer was still empty.  As if I never said what to monitor.

I followed the advice offered in this forum at staceygumbert and followed a link to:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fixing-when-windows-media-player-library-wont-let-you-add-files/.

This notice did not.  Once I deleted the database because it suggests that WMP asks about media sharing.  When I click on the button 'Settings' WMP fails and sends an error report.

If I connect my wife, everything is OK.  I tried to copy its database through my user profile.  No joy.

My Roku Soundbridge can't 'see' libraries.  However I think it's to be expected considering not having WMP does not all libraries.

If this is a XviD file... you probably need
    the XviD codec.

This can be checked by using the free software GSpot:

    Download GSpot
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/GSpot.htm
    (left-click the text: "Download GSpot")
    (on the next screen...
    left click: 'Download [GSpot 2.70]')

You don't have to install it... unxip just the file and
    GSpot.exe left click to launch.

    Hello

I moved your post to the appropriate forum.

    Thank you!

  • my media player has suddenly two or three copies of all my songs and videos

    Title original: Media Player

all of a sudden, my media player has two or three copies of all my songs and videos and even the media player files, as its brightness and contrast tutorial videos. Help.

    Hello

To delete duplicate entries, click on another feature tab in the drive (for example the current playback), and then click library.

If it eliminates the duplicate of your library entries, you can right click on the music file and click 'open file location '. To check if the location of the file is the same or different. This will let us know if there are entries in double or not.

If only a small number of duplicate entries exist, you can delete those invalid manually by double-clicking the invalid entry and then clicking on delete.

If you have a large number of entries in doubles in your library (or if your library is duplicated), it might be better to create a new library.

Method 1: To resolve this problem, clear theWindows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. for Windows 7: click Start, run, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player and then click on OK.

    c. Select all files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note: You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Method 2: If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. If you run Windows 7, click Start, run, % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.

    c. Select the folder Media Playerand then clickdelete on the file menu.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

For more information, visit the following link:

Remove items from the Windows Media Player library

The Windows Media Player library: frequently asked questions

Method 3: How can I prevent double or invalid entries to be added to my library when I play music files?

When you move digital media files on your computer, the file name and file path information remain unchanged in your library. Then when you select a file to play to its new location, a new entry is created in your library if you select the option automatically added to your library when played. As a result, your library can quickly contain a large number of entries, duplicate or invalid.

To prevent it be automatically added to your library of music files

    a. in Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click on Options.

    b. on the Player tab, clear music to add to the library when played check box.

Now, when you play music on your computer or the Internet, the file will not be added automatically to your library.

  • No sound in windows media player (11.0.6002.18111) only trying to play mp3 files. No way of fixing/uninstallation or reinstallation. Need advice!

I recently encountered a problem with Windows Media Player 11 (a specific version in the title of the topic) where no sound play atall when you try to play mp3 files. When trying to play a track of the progress indicator moves VERY slowly and jumps in a stuttering mode and no sound whatsoever is coming through the speakers. He is a recent problem.

All audio files work on other audio programs like Real player, quick time e.t.c. and the sound comes from the computer normally. Only the sound that I have are with windows media player when you try to play mp3 files. Still fine read video files, wav files play fine. How boring is that he suddenly decided he likes are more mp3 files!

More annoying, I stumbled upon the fact that I can't uninstall the reader as in Vista, it is part of the operating system literal, I can't download and install WMP install package from Microsoft because I tried and it tells me that I have a more recent version of Windows media player and therefore impossible to use the downloaded Setup program to install or repair windows media player. It is therefore impossible for me to get an installation package that is newer than the one on the computer, you would have thought that the downloadable installation on the microsoft Web site would be the more recent but no!

I can't think of a way to solve this problem. For me it feels strongly a Codec issue to do with MP3 and WMP but I don't really know about Codecs enough to go on the setting of the specific Codec with the question, or even track down which codec it is perhaps whether she "is" a codec problem in the first place.

I tried settings with the menu of options in WMP 11 troubleshooting unsuccessful (obviously), I also tried an audio tool / repair of breakdowns than microsfts audio troubleshooting prompted me to try, that of no problems with the actual audio devices on the system... I KNOW, his problem with WMP and mp3 files!

So, to summarize, WMP doesn't read MP3 files, I can't run a repair tool that there is no 'installation' to WMP 11 package, it is not an uninstall utility is which means that I can't uninstall it to reinstall a new, I can't download the installation package and run it as apparently I have a more current version than is available on the microsoft Web site. Then what should I do?

I need some advice on how to go about trying to solve this problem I've hit a bit of a brick wall...

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    FIXED!

randomly enough rate and bit depth format sample somehow has set high in the sound control panel, advanced driver.

After hitting "restore defaults" it resets the depth of rate and little sample return at: 16 bit 44.1 khz

    The sound now plays perfectly.

Weird it performs only mp3 files!

Thanks for the help people, it seems that I ended up sorting out on my own though! Yay for me! haha
