  • The task bar has two control panel icons

The task bar has two icons in Control Panel. When I added my office to the two taskbar Control Panel icons apperded. (I have the taskbar right-click, then toolbars and selected Desktop). I can delete the second icon in Control Panel, but it returns to the restart. I found as subjects during a Google search. Someone else has the same double icons? Is there a fix to Windows? I am running Windows 7 on the new system.

    That did not work.

It does not - it did for me when I go from 7 to 8 and then 8 to 8.1

You MUST delete a registry key.

    Create a file "deleteCPIcon.reg" with:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00  [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{5399E694-6CE5-4D6C-8FCE-1D8870FDCBA0}]

  • Control Panel icons does not.

Some (most) icons in my control panel do not work. When I double click on it, I don't get an error message. I don't get an hourglass. They just don't do anything. Oddly, they seem to all be related to changes or add/remove elements (for example, add/remove program, display, user accounts, etc.). I searched internet and found a few .cpl files that allow me to access these items through the feature 'run '. When I do that, I am able to use the work in them. This makes me think the lies of the issue with shortcut icon / itself and not with the function (Add/Remove Programs, display, etc.).

    Hi ktruesde,

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

3 when was the last time it was working fine?

Check if the problem persists in safe mode.

A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

If the issue is not still in safe mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

  • Windows 7 - How can I get rid of an "All Control Panel items" icon on the desktop?

Only, I've migrated to Vista Ultimate x 64 to Windows 7 Professional x 64.  I used Laplink to move all my users, programs, and settings.  Everything is great, except now there is an icon on the desktop for all my users that I can't get rid of - it connects to the control panel and is called "All Control Panel items" - it cannot be deleted or moved to the Recycle Bin. Make a right click on it brings up a menu with 'open' and 'create a shortcut' by dragging it to the trash does not delete it.

If I am right cick on the desktop and add Control Panel to the items displayed on the desktop, a second control Panel icon appears with the same picture, but the text is just 'control panel '.

I don't know there is a registry key that I have to remove or adjust but after a lot of research can't find anything.

Open the Publisher of the registry (Regedit.exe) and navigate to:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace]

Backup the key by exporting to a REG file.

Expand the branch above and delete the following subkey:

    {21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
(The above is the GUID for "All Control Panel items" Namespace)

Similarly, to remove the entry here (if found)

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace]

  • Portege M700 screen touch control panel went...

    Hi all

I was showing off the laptop this weekend and found that the touchscreen doesn't seem to work (I have not used for quite awhile)...

I went to the control panel to check if it was on and the settings control panel touch has a link that goes nowhere. He lifts just a mistake and the Control Panel icon is now empty.

Now everything I did updates of drivers is the stuff I have of the Toshiba Tempro thingy... have they remove this feature?

    What could do to break?

    How should I do?

    Thank you much at all.

    Rob.

Go to the Toshiba website and install the Touch Dual of Wacom driver
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Also update the BIOS and installing the latest Toshiba value added Package (assuming that you use Vista).

If this does not work, you can try to reinstall Windows by running the recovery (press zero during power on). Don't forget to backup your data first.
