Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (16.0.0652.0621) - "couldn't write the Progid value to key" error - Windows 7 on Macbook/Boot camp

I am trying to install the new codec from Microsoft to allow me to browse/preview of RAW files. I use Windows 7 as administrator on a MacBook Pro with the book Camp. The error I get is

Could not write the Progid value to key
\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\fileExts codec\.arw\userchoice
Check that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support team
I used the x 86 file on the site
Any ideas?
Thank you.

What a PITA, it was!

1. go in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts

2. right click on permissions
3. click on advanced
4 uncheck «include permissions inheritable...» »
5. click on remove
6. click on add
7. tap all and press enter
8. click on the control to total control
9 check "replace all child object permissions...". »
10. click on Yes
11. click on OK
12 run the installation. It should go right now
Once completed
Repeat steps 1 to 3.
4. check «include permissions inheritable...» »
5. check "replace all child object permissions...". »
6. click on Yes
7. click on all members of the list of albums
8. click on remove
9. click on OK
This should be it. Hope this helps everyone and MS solves the problem.

  • Reinstall Microsoft Camera Codec Pack has stopped working in Windows 7 Home Premium, does not solve the problem.

    Hello.

I've been an avid user of Microsoft Camera Codec Pack, and he worked a lot since I installed it-up to this point.
A few days ago I noticed that my RAW / CR2 files are not displayed in the windows photo viewer (nor were the thumbnails).

I tired to reinstall the codec without success pack; the installation process works fine, but after restarting the same problem persists (this also applies when I 'fix' Camera Codec Pack). I tired both the x 86 version and 64bits without result.

I'm at the end of my mind, and I would be very happy to help :)

Running on Windows 7 Edition Family Premium and my camera photo is a Canon 5 d Mk II.

  • Cannot open RAW photos using Microsoft Camera Codec Pack on Windows 8.

Original title: Remove the codec of the victory camera 8

Downloaded codec does not allow me to open raw photos in windows Explorer, and now I can't open them in Photo Paint.

    Hi Chris,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and we are happy to help you on this question.

Depending on the issue, you downloaded a Microsoft Camera Codec Pack for Windows 8 on the computer which creates problems to open raw photos in Windows Explorer and in Windows Paint.

I wish to gather information to solve this problem in a better way:

    (1) do get you any error message when you try to open the photos using Microsoft Camera Codec pack in Windows Explorer as well as in Paint of Windows on the computer?
    (2) what size device that you use to display pictures using the Camera Codec Pack?
    (3) the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack does support the format of the device that you use to view RAW photos?

I suggest you to check if the format of the device you are using is supported by Microsoft Camera Codec Pack.

    You can check the link:

If the format of the device you are using is supported by Microsoft Camera Codec Pack, you can check the manufacturer's Web site and download the latest version of the software for this particular device. That might solve the problem.

Please answer us with the necessary information if the problem persists.
  • Microsoft camera codec pack does not

Built a new computer and I use sp 1 Swedish version 64-bit W7 on it. But the camera codec pack does not work. It worked fine on my old computer. First of all, I have installed the Sony raw pack but it din't work and after that I installed the 64 bit version of the Microsoft package but that didn't work either. Don't know what to do.

Well I installed it again and this time it worked. Strange but I'm happy

  • Camera Codec Pack works only on Windows 8.

My PC 64 bit of Windows 8 has the new Microsoft Camera Codec Pack update, but it doesn't seem to work.  I don't see a thumbnails of RAW image files and open the viewer with a white screen and the name of the file.

My system is a Windows 7 upgrade.
I tried to install the Pack again, but the installer says it's already here.
Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Thanks for the reply.  It looks like a false alarm.  I was watching an image file that wasn't in the camera Pack directory.  When I downloaded a file from a Nikon D40 (.nef), he made properly - both thumbnail and image viewer.

    So all is good.
  • Download broken Windows 7 Camera Codec Pack

    Hello!

I can't get my hands on the Windows 7 Camera Codec Pack. All of the links no longer work, and all I can find is the versions of Windows 8, which will not be installed. It is absolutely vital for the workflow of my company, and I managed to install from this article http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/how-do-i-view-raw-pictures only a couple of months.

I tried to find mirrors or links to work and can't. Any help is very grateful.

  • Any idea when a raw codec pack which supports Canon 6 d will be available?

The last Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (16.4.1734.1104), published on 12/11/2012 does not support the 6 d, can not watch raw. Cr2 files in Windows Explorer.  Any idea when an update will be published?

As you have noticed originally that the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack does not support the Canon 6 d.  If you look at how they add cameras, chances are good that in the next six months, they'll add taken in charge as they add more new cameras lately.

Canon did release a codec in mid December 2012 which supports viewing RAW images in Windows Explorer or the photo gallery.  Look for the Canon RAW Codec 1.11.0 version

That being said, this is a 32-bit version.  If you have a 64-bit system, it won't help with Windows Explorer.  Canon has never released a 64-bit version of their codec.

When you register for the trial, the product key must have been sent to you. Check your Inbox or junk folder. Product key should also be a part of the Setup file to install the trial version.

  • How can I get the Basic for Windows Media Player codec pack?

original title: green screen recently started in windows media player for Vista 64-bit.

It works very well for some videos (like those recorded uncompressed, or some codecs) but a single codec that I save it as coming out of Sony Vegas (Windows Media video V11) goes green screen with playback of the sound. How can I get the basic for 64-bit Windows Media Player codec pack? It worked perfectly for several years now on this machine. Suddenly, it does not work. Last time that I used it very well if a few months ago.

    Hi, MisterMark67,

What changes have been made recently to the computer?

Have you tried a system restore to a time before this problem?
